THIS WEEK - BABY SHOWER FOR BIRTHRIGHT: In memory of Judy Wieberg, OLOS School & Mrs. Groose is
sponsoring a baby shower, with gifts to be donated to Birthright. It will be on
Wednesday, March 13th. We will have Mass that morning, and then
after that, we will come over to the gym and enjoy some fun & games, along
with refreshments. Donated items can be new or gently used. Monetary gifts are
much appreciated as well. Birthright is an organization that was very close to
Judy’s heart, and we would like to honor her with full participation by school
families and the entire parish community. All are invited! More information
enclosed.
SCIENCE FAIR: Congratulations to all the students who did such a great job on their
science fair projects! They really had some good ideas. Special congratulations
to the three category winners: Emma Goetz – Life Science – “Five Second Rule –
is it Legit?”, Aly Haeffner – Physical Science – “Ping Pong Problems”, &
Matthew Beck – Earth Science – “Cornstarch – A Quick Pothole Fix”. By winning
in their category, these students qualified to compete in the Diocesan Science
Fair, which took place today at Taos.
PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN PARENTS – This Tuesday, March 12, we will have
the Preschool & Kindergarten Informational meetings, from 6:30 pm to 7:00
pm. This is a time to meet the teachers, orient
your child to the classroom, and schedule Kindergarten testing. These meetings
will take place in the respective classrooms. If you need more information,
please don’t hesitate to call.
DARE: The 5th & 6th
graders will begin the DARE program this Thursday morning. DARE stands for Drug
Abuse Resistance Education. Deputy Wheeler, from Miller Co. Sheriffs Dept. will
be leading this 10 session program for our youth. He has worked with our
students in the past and does a fantastic job! DARE graduation will be set at
the end of the school year.
FACEBOOK: Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School is launching a school sponsored
Facebook page. This is a good opportunity for us to showcase some of the
wonderful things we do on a daily basis. If you DO NOT wish to have pictures of
your children posted on Facebook, participating in activities, please send a
note into the office to let us know by Wednesday, 3/13/19.
EARLY DISMISSAL ON FRIDAY! Please note
the early dismissal (at noon) this Friday, 3/15/19. Teachers will be doing in
service that afternoon. No afternoon extended care will be offered.
DUE TO THE SNOWDAY ON THURSDAY, FEB. 20th, SCHOOL WILL BE IN
SESSION ON MONDAY, MARCH 18, 2019.
PARISH MISSION: We invite and encourage all school families to
attend the mission, scheduled for our parish this week., on Wednesday,
Thursday, & Friday evening at 6:30 pm.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Mr. Vandike will
be leading the Stations at 2:15 pm every Friday that we are in session during
Lent. All are welcome!
CARTRIDGE SOLUTIONS just sent us a check for
$86.80 for your used printer cartridges. Every little bit helps! Thanks to all
who keep those for us and please keep on saving and sending them in.
READING COUNTS: The Reading Counts field trip to Springfield is set
for Friday, May 3rd, 2019. The students will enjoy the day at the
Discovery Center. MORE NEWS: Due to the Reading
Counts program being down for half of the school year, each student will receive 25 points toward their goal. Reading Counts
deadline is Wednesday April, 24th. Field trip forms will go home on April 17th
with any student who has already met their 200 point goal. The remainder of the
field trip forms will go home on April 25th with students who reached their
goal between the 17th and 24th.
BEST CHOICE & BOX TOPS: It is
time for submission! Please send in any that you may have collected. Thank you
for clipping and saving!
ALIYAH TALLEDO, one of our 7th
grade students, will be singing at a fundraising event next Friday evening.
This event is geared to students. It would be great to show support for Aliyah
and the Teen Harbor organization! Tickets may only be purchased at the door,
with doors opening at 6:00 pm. The auditorium can seat 900. TheTeen Harbor/Bamboo
House organizations house teens who are homeless, have difficult family issues,
and help victims of abuse.
LIFETOUCH PHOTO UPDATE: Due to more interest, we have scheduled
another photo session date for TUESDAY, APRIL 16 from 12:00pm (noon) to 6:00 pm. (MINIMUM OF 15 NEEDED). We still have 1 slot available for March 27 at 3:10pm from the original
photography dates.

session.Contact the Parish Office if
you want to use your 2015 photo or a submitted photo for a $10
charge. We would also like to include photos of our parishioners who are in
nursing homes, at no charge. If this date doesn’t work and you don’t want to
submit a photo, please add your name to the sign-up sheet or contact the Parish
Office if you are interested in a FUTURE photo session (minimum of 15 needed).
Sign-up sheet is located in the main entrance of Church.
RICE BOWL: Please use it as a tool in your household to
enhance your family Lenten experience. There is a Lenten calendar inside that
may be used to help your family pray. You may return the Rice Bowls to the
vestibule or school office after Easter, with any money that you may have
saved.
ATTENTION 7TH GRADE PARENTS: Traditionally, the 8th grade graduation reception is
planned & hosted by the parents of the 7th graders. Kathleen
Haeffner, 7th grade parent, has volunteered to coordinate this. She
will be in contact with all 7th grade parents in the near future. Graduation is set for Saturday, May 11th
at the 6:30 pm Mass, with the reception afterwards in the gym.
GUN RAFFLE: 2019 OLOS Gun Raffle
tickets are available for purchase at the school office or Mary’s Home Bank. If
you need tickets to sell, you may also contact Josh Vandike, Greg Koetting, or
Jay Harms.
WINE FOR SALE: We have a few bottles of
Shawnee Bluff wine leftover from the Italian Feast. The price has been lowered
to $12/bottle (from $15). We have 1 bottle of sweet white – “Sweet Speakeasy”,
and 4 bottles of sweet red – “I’m a Sweetie Too”. Contact Rosie in the office
if you would like to purchase any.
OLOSS “BEE” KIND CLUB: Students who were
recognized for acts of kindness and generosity on March 8 were: PK –Logan
Markway – cleaning around sink without being asked, K – Oliver Hagenhoff –
playing nicely with others at recess, 1st
– Elaina Backues – asking a person to dance at the school dance, Abby Eickhoff –
sharing her markers with others, 2nd – Olivia Koetting – great singing
at church, Madelyn Doerhoff – singing & following along at Mass so well, 3rd
– Alyssa Eickhoff – tying a preschoolers shoe, 4th – Braden Schulte –
always bringing comedic relief, Adam
Schulte – waved goodbye to the teacher, 5th – Ben Goetz – making the teacher
laugh and encouraging his friends, 6th –Phoebe
Whittle – picking up papers that fell, 7th
–Ayden Schulte – offering to do the longer reading for Mass, Ethan Schulte – for politely replying good
morning to a teacher, 8th – Jordan Bittle – putting up the balls at
recess. All acts of kindness “bees” are displayed in the school cafeteria. (Note
– the first student listed in each grade is kindness noted by the classroom
teacher. If any additional are listed, they have been noted by other members of
the staff.) Great job, students!
