HALLOWEEN PLANS: We invite all parents, parishioners, and community members to participate in our 4th annual Trunk or Treat, which will be on Halloween day, Tuesday, October 31st at 1:30 pm in the parking lot in front of the brick school building. The students will go on their annual “Halloween Walk”, trick or treating (in costume) through local businesses and offices, and then walk through the Trunk or Treat area. Please help spread the word to community members – all are invited to treat the kiddos! Please call the school office if you or someone you know would like to participate. When planning for costumes for your child, we ask that students not wear scary or gory costumes. No fake blood, devils, etc. Keep it light and fun! Also, please send along a bag or bucket for trunk or treating.

PARENTS/PARTIES: When coming for the Halloween festivities on October 31st, all parents should sign in at the office. We ask that you do not come to other doors to be let in, and that you do not let others in. All Preschool room parents will be escorted to the preschool classroom after signing in at 1:00 pm. All other parents – for grades K-8, will sign in and remain in the cafeteria area until 1:15 pm. Thank you for your cooperation. A room parent list is on the reverse of these notes.

CEMETERY LIGHTING: Everyone is invited to join the school children for the Litany of the Saints & Lighting of the Cemetery at 9:00 am on Tuesday, October 31st (weather permitting). Since 2017, OLOS School students have placed tea lights on the tombstones in our cemetery. which originates as an ancient tradition from Germany in which they placed burning candles on ancestral graves to burn all night on All Saints Eve. These lights represent the “light of the Holy Souls” as they burn quietly through the night. It is quite impressive!

DRESS CODE CHANGE! We are asking that ALL students wear dress code to school on Halloween morning due to the News Tribune coverage of the Lighting of the Cemetery. We are transferring the customary “dress down in orange/black” to this Monday, October 30th.

SIGN UP FOR MASS: Our first OLOSS student led weekend Mass for this school year will be on Sunday, November 5th – 10:00 am. We would like ALL students to have an active part in this Mass. Please see sign up, enclosed in this folder.

VETERANS DAY ACTIVITIES: We will celebrate Veterans Day on Friday, November 10th. We will begin our morning at church with a Prayer Service for Veterans & Active Military at 8:00 am. We will then move over to school for fun & fellowship from 8:30 – 9:00 am. Please make sure to invite all vets, active military & spouses to share this time with us. Students will be able to dress down in red, white, & blue or camo. There will be no Mass/Prayer Service on Wednesday, Nov. 8th.

2/3/4 FIELD TRIP NOVEMBER 10TH: Parents attending the Field trip, we welcome you to attend our Veterans Day activities before departing on the field trip at 9:15 am.
