ACHIEVEMENT TESTING: The 3^rd through 8^th grade students will be doing Achievement testing next week, during the morning hours. These students will be provided a snack throughout the morning. However, as with any time, it is important for your student to get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast each day.

PROGRESS REPORTS were available last week. Students in Grades K-2 receive a mid-term report and students’ reports in Grades 3-8 are to be viewed online at www.optionc.com, with our school code – 8085 – and your individual username and password. If you have not already done so, return the enclosed report/form on Monday. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher. If teachers have not received your form, they will contact you next week.

DONUTS WITH DAD! Dads – please mark your October calendar for the 12^th. You can join your child at Mass at 8:00 am and then come on over to school for donuts and fellowship. Each class will have a short presentation for their dads. We should be finished up no later than 10:00 am. Hope to see all dads (or dad “subs”) here that Thursday!

MANY THANKS to Stacy Schrimpf – for keeping the bulletin board outside the offices current with her great artistic talent, and Emily Schulte – for lending her expertise during the health checks last week. We couldn’t do it without you!

FANTASY NIGHT: Work list sign ups were sent home last Friday. If you did not return yours, please contact the school office or Robyn Silvey to sign up. 23 or the 39 school families returned the sign up. It will take ALL SCHOOL FAMILIES to help with this event. The finalized work list will be sent home in next week’s folder. Also, please get out and sell those tickets! With fewer families this year we have to all kick in and do more. At last count, approximately 170 of the 300 tickets have been turned in as sold. We appreciate all efforts to sell tickets and all the help with this event! If you need more tickets, contact one of the main ticket holders.  Main ticket holders are: Mark Adrian, Monica Bittle, Ashley Groose, Ashley Kempker, Melissa Koetting, Shannon Lage, Mary’s Home Bank, and the school office.

SCHOOL PORTRAIT DAY: Tuesday, October 10^th – 8:00 am. We are in need of ONE volunteer to help with pictures that day. The volunteer will receive a $25 voucher that can be used towards the purchase of portraits. Please contact Rosie if you are able to help out. PICTURE PACKETS ARE IN TODAY’S FOLDER. IF INTERESTED, PLEASE RETURN PACKETS WITH THIS FRIDAY FOLDER, ALONG WITH PAYMENT. You may also PREPAY ONLINE, but the order envelope still needs to be filled out with the online order number. Please note only those ordering PACKAGES 1-8 OR THE PICK 4 WILL RECEIVE THE 2017-18 YEARBOOK WITH THE ORDER. YOU MAY ORDER THE YEARBOOK SEPARATELY FOR $10, AS SHOWN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FORM.

NO MASS: There will be NO ALL SCHOOL MASS on Thursday, Oct. 5^th. However, the students and staff will be participating in a Living Rosary, for the intention of Father Pat’s health, and this will be recorded and given to Father Pat to view.  The students will be in full dress code, with no hoodies, jackets, etc., so that they look nice for the video.

VOLLEYBALL NEWS: The girls continue to play hard this season. Unfortunately, they took an overall loss last night against St. George. They did win their first set, 25-18, then lost their second and third, with the last set running out of time – a nail-biter – 19-21. So close! Go Lady Cougars!

MORE BOOK FAIR NEWS: OLOS School sold over $1600 in books at the book fair last week. Those sales made it possible for our classrooms to receive over $600 in books. That’s a great total for our little school! Congrats to the 2^nd graders, for winning book fair bingo on Friday! They each received a candy bar or candy of their choice. Also, thanks so much to the 6^th, 7^th, & 8^th graders who helped with the book fair last Tuesday evening. We couldn’t have done it without you!

HEALTH CHECKS:  Students grades K-8 had health checks performed by Miller Co. Health Dept. last week. If there were any concerns, you will find notice in today’s folder.

4,5,6 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM: OLOS School will have one basketball team forming this Fall, a 4-6 girls team. We are looking for a coach or coaches for this team. Please contact Mr. Vandike with your offer to help. Students in 7^th & 8^th grades, who were interested in playing, are playing on the Honey Creek team.

VOLLEYBALL WINS! The girls won all three sets last night against Trinity, with scores of 25-16, 25-22, & 25-13. What a great set of games, girls! Go Lady Cougars!

REMINDER TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS BRINGING LUNCHES FROM HOME:  Please see that your child’s lunch has everything they need for their meal – drinks, plates, utensils, condiments, napkins. The lunch program cannot afford to supply these things if the student is not buying the daily lunch.

LUNCH NOTICE: For students purchasing daily lunches: Students may choose a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée if they have a note from home. They must bring a note on the day that the substitution is desired and must present it to the classroom teacher first thing in the morning. Please note that the “main entrée” is the protein item. For example, if our meal is vegetable soup with grilled cheese & string cheese, the substitution would be for the cheese sandwich & string cheese, not for the vegetable soup.

READING COUNTS SHIRTS may be worn any day in lieu of normal dress code shirts. They do not have to be tucked in. Your child will receive a shirt when he/she has earned 75 Reading Counts points.

DEADLINE FOR FRIDAY NOTES: Thursdays, 9:00 am. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper. The school cannot afford to supply paper for outside events). Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy. It is not appropriate for the school to send out extraneous information that can be handled other ways. Also, if you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items up, send them in, or email them to rosie@radiowire.net (call to let me know you have emailed please). I don’t mind doing a little editing and rewording, but the bulk of the item should be outlined with details.

OLOS SCHOOL AND FACEBOOK: Did you know that OLOSS is on Facebook? Search for Our Lady of the Snows Home & School Association and request to join. This group is open to all school families, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends. It is a way to connect about all school related events and activities.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s), and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions and dosage cups/spoons. These will be locked up in the office. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring medications.

COLLECTION ENVELOPES FOR THURSDAY MASS: Each Thursday, the students have the opportunity to place their offering in the collection. If you need collection envelopes at home, please let us know & some will be sent home. We also have them available in the cafeteria for student use.

HOMEWORK can only be picked up between 3:00 and 3:15 each day for students who have been absent. Requests can be made to send work home with siblings or others. Please specifically request homework when calling in your child’s absence if you so prefer. Some parents prefer to not have the homework, especially if their child is still feeling poorly.

SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. Save any used print cartridges, laser or jet, fax cartridges, etc, and send them in to school or leave in the church vestibule in the box so marked.

-Save those “Box Tops” found on many, many groceries & other misc. items – worth 10 cents each.

We are no longer saving Best Choice UPCs.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES/GET TOGETHERS: If your child is inviting children to a party from school, and is not including either the entire class, or all the girls, or all the boys, it is not appropriate to pass out invitations at school. To do this causes hurt feelings with some students. We know that this is not intentional, but it happens. If all are not invited (or all the girls or all the boys) then invitations must be handled outside of school. Thank you for your cooperation.

PARENTS WELCOMED! You are always encouraged to attend Mass with the school children on Thursdays, especially if your child’s class is involved with the ministry.

GRANDPARENTS DAY: Please pass our thanks on to all the wonderful grandparents (and grandparent “subs”) who supported us by enjoyed the morning with us on Thursday. It was a fantastic morning, with much fun and fellowship!

BOOK FAIR NIGHT: Thanks to all who supported our book fair so generously this week. Thanks especially to Mrs. Groose for all her hard work with organizing the fair and the games. We are blessed to have her here at OLOS School!

We realize that this was not a day we had preschoolers in attendance, but we were not able to schedule a day that worked. If there were any concerns for your Kindergarten through Eighth grader,  we will let you know in next week’s Friday folder or by phone. Preschoolers will have a lice check next week. All immunization records were checked today, including the preschooler’s.

VOLLEYBALL NEWS: Yippee! The girls won two sets of three last night against St. Thomas, for an overall win. Congratulations, Lady Cougars! We are proud of you!

GRANDPARENTS DAY: This Thursday, Sept. 14^th, we will celebrate Grandparent’s Day at OLOS. Make sure to invite your grandparents! If grandma or grandpa can’t make it, feel free to come yourself or ask a “substitute grandparent” to enjoy the morning with your child. We will celebrate Mass at 8:00 am (students may sit with grandparents at Mass), then enjoy bingo, refreshments, and fellowship. The book fair will be open for grandparents to shop with their grandchild, if they so wish. The morning festivities should end around 10 – 10:30 am.

BOOK FAIR NIGHT: The annual Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, September 12^th. From 6:00 to 7:30 pm, students will be able to shop and participate in fun and games and earn bonus reading counts points. Make plans now to attend this fun-filled evening! A flyer outlining workers for this event may be found in today’s folder. CONCESSIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE!

WELCOME NEW BABY! Gus (1^st grade) & Vivian (PK) are proud brother and sister to new little brother, Gabriel Gene, born Tuesday, Sept. 5^th. Gabriel weighed 9 lbs. 12 oz. and was 22 ¾ inches long! We congratulate and pray for this family of five which includes proud parents, Jeana & Derrick Pringer.  God bless!

VOLLEYBALL NEWS: The JV Girls put up a good fight last night against the St. Martin’s team, winning one set of three, and coming very close on the last set. Scores were: 19-25 (loss), 25-12 (win), & 17-25 (loss) for an overall loss. Keep trying hard, girls; you’re off to a good start!

We are adding a SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY on September 27^th, so please add that to the Sept. calendar (you received this at the Open House on the reverse of your Aug. calendar). Students will receive a DRESS DOWN pass at the end of the month of their birthday or half-birthday. Remember – these cannot be used on days we celebrate Mass (Thursdays and Holy Days). Please be aware that all length and sleeve requirements remain in force on dress down days.

  

NOT A DRESS DOWN DAY! Thursday, Sept. 7^th is listed as a dress down day on the school calendar. This is a mistake. Thursday is a Mass day and we do not dress down on Mass days. We will have our normal dress down day on Friday

ROOF WORK: The work on the roof is progressing. Due to noise, a couple of the classrooms have moved up to the middle school for classwork, as needed. We are excited to get the new roof on, so we are happy to put up with a little inconvenience to get it finished!

GOOD LUCK! We wish the JV Volleyball girls good luck as they begin their season, with their first game on Thursday evening at St. Martin’s school at 6:00 pm. We wish them the best of luck this year!
