REGISTRATION PACKETS for the 2018-19 school year were sent home in last week’s folder. THESE ARE DUE BACK TO THE OFFICE THIS MONDAY, APRIL 23RD. Families meeting this deadline, with packet completed, will receive bonus dress down passes.

PROGRESS REPORTS: Today in this folder you will find your child’s midterm report or a sign-off sheet. Students in Grades K-2 receive a mid-term report and students’ reports in Grades 3-8 are to be viewed online at www.optionc.com, with our school code – 8085 – and your individual username and password. Please sign & return the enclosed report/form on Monday. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.

8TH GRADE NEWS: Freshman Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25th at Cole R-V, from 5:30 – 8:30 in the Performing Arts Center.

READING COUNTS ends THIS WEDNESDAY, April 25th. Your child must have reached 200 points by this date in order to attend the R. C. trip. The date for the trip is set for Tuesday, May 8th. We will be going to the Wonders of Wildlife Adventure Aquarium (Bass Pro) in Springfield, MO by bus. Parents are invited to go along and may transport their own child/ren, and ONLY their own child/ren, and then sign in at the aquarium. Only teachers and students will ride the bus. Only students, staff, parents may attend this trip – sorry – no younger siblings. Other plans are being finalized. We do know that the cost for each child will be $10 for aquarium and have not determined how much of that cost will be passed on to parent. Also, parents’ admittance fee will be approximately $27 (plus tax?) and will need to be paid at the entrance. This is a 10% reduction on the normal rate of $29.95. More details to follow. In addition to the trip, your child receives one entrance into the class drawing for a gift card for every 25 points over 200 that they earn.

STUDENTS not attending the Reading Counts trip will remain at school, under the supervision of a classroom teacher, and do school work, as a normal day.

TRACK NEWS: The track team did great on Wednesday night, despite a very cold and windy evening! The girls won two medals, one for the 4X2, and one for the distance medley. Way to make tracks Cougars!

MENU CHANGE: Please change your menu by reversing the meals on April 23rd & 25th. We will have the Sausage & egg meal on the 23rd and the chicken wrap meal on the 25th.

UNPAID FEES: Final grade cards (and transfer of records, graduation diplomas) will only be issued to students whose fees are paid in full. This includes, but is not limited to: sustaining fees, lost library books fees, preschool and extended care fees, school support, lunch fees, rule violation fees, lost textbook fees, etc.

CONGRATULATIONS to the thirteen students attending the Spelling Bee at St. Martin’s School on Tuesday! Those attending were: Oliver Burrows, Austin Doerhoff, Nolan Schulte, Deanna Backes, Emma Goetz, Garet Wood, Aly Haeffner, Ethan Schulte, Aliyah Talledo, Jordan Bittle, Macy Adrian, Sara Beck, & Gracie Evers. Special congratulations to Emma, for placing fifth in her grade, and Sara, for placing third in her grade. There were 22 schools competing. Way to go Spelling Bee team! Special thanks to Mrs. Haeffner, for the time and dedication involved in all the planning and practices.

FINAL LUNCH BILL: Today we are sending out final lunch bills. This is the last billing for this school year. If you didn’t receive one, then you are paid up through the end of the year.  Please remit payment due as soon as possible. Remember – all school fees must be paid in full by the end of the school year.

ON THURSDAY, along with Mass, we will be celebrating the baptisms of Alyssa & Eli Eickhoff. After Mass their family will be treating the whole school with refreshments in the school cafeteria. We congratulate Eli & Alyssa, as they take their first step of initiation into the Catholic faith.

TRAFFIC FLOW/PICK-UP/DROP-OFF: If you are bringing students in to school, or if you wish to enter the school building, please do not park in the drop-off line in the mornings. Please park in the parking lot, and walk in. Failure to do so results in traffic tie-ups. Also, remember, all vehicles are to EXIT VIA THE CEMETERY ROAD. Thank you for abiding by these policies.

HOME & SCHOOL – There is a H & S meeting scheduled for this Tuesday, April 10. There will be a carry in dinner at 6:30 pm, with the meeting beginning at 7:00 pm. All attending will receive a bonus dress down pass for their child. Come find out what’s happening in your child’s classroom and school!

TRACK NEWS: Our newly formed track team gave it their all at the track meet on Wednesday at Lewis & Clark. It is all a learning experience, but we are proud to share that the girls won 2nd place in the 2X200 competition & as well as the 2X400 competition! Great way to start the season team! Team members are Deanna Backes, Emma Goetz, Grayson Koetting, Zachary Vandike, Phoebe Whittle, Junior Wilson, Aly Haeffner, Aliyah Talledo, & Ayden Schulte. Keep up the spirit!

BABY CHICKS! The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders have eggs incubating in their classrooms, so that they may witness first-hand, the hatching of baby chicks. This program is offered to our classrooms each year through the Miller County Extension Office. Students in these grades will get a chance to bring home a chick, with parent permission. So fun!

EMAIL CHANGE: Rosie’s email has been changed to olosschoolsecretary@gmail.com., effective immediately.

8th GRADE PICTURES: The date is set for Friday, April 20, with a rain-out date of Monday, April 23.

GRADUATION DRESS CODE: Girls – dresses, no more than two inches above the knee, no spaghetti straps showing (may wear shawl to cover). Students will be wearing cap/gown through Mass and awards ceremony and for pictures.

PRESCHOOL GRADUATION: The preschool graduation will be in conjunction with the awards ceremony this year, which is tentatively scheduled for May 17th at 9:30 am.

FINAL DAY OF SCHOOL – Thursday, May 17: We will have Mass at 8:00 am, have the awards ceremony & preschool graduation, beginning at 9:30 am, and dismiss at 11:00 am. THERE WILL BE NO LUNCH SERVED AND NO EXTENDED CARE OFFERED IN THE AFTERNOON.

IMPROMPTU DRILLS: OLOSS will be having several emergency drills throughout the next weeks. If your child mentions them (or even if they don’t), you may take the opportunity to discuss the subject. We have tornado, fire, earthquake, and intruder/lockdown drills.

EASTER EGG HUNT: We will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Wednesday, March 28th. Each child in grades PK – 6th should bring in one dozen candy-filled eggs to the classroom, marked with your child’s name. Please wait until Monday, March 26 before sending those in. The 7th & 8th graders will be hiding the eggs for the classes, so you may remember them with some treats as well. Candy that doesn’t melt easily is best. We also have students with peanut allergies, so we ask that no peanut product be sent. Thanks so much!
