REGISTRATION PACKETS:  Today you are receiving the registration packets for the 2015-16 school year. The forms are due back to school by Monday, April 13, 2015.  The remainder of the information is to be kept for your reference – as you will need the supply list, calendar, physical form, etc. with you.

LUNCH BILLING:  We will do the final lunch billing on April 15th. If you receive a notice on April 17th, that will be the final amount due. If you do not receive a billing, it means your child’s lunch account is paid in full.

EGGS NEEDED! Please send in one dozen candy-filled eggs for each of your students, to be used for our annual Easter egg hunt – which we have moved to Tuesday, April 7th (a snow make-up day).  Students in grades PK – 6th will be hunting eggs, with the 7th & 8th graders hiding them. Please no candy that would melt easily – as it could be a sunny day. Also, you may remember to throw in a couple extra treats for the 7th & 8th graders, who will be working hard to hide ALL those eggs. You can send them in at any time to the classroom teacher, in a bag, marked with your child’s name. Thank you!
 8th grade parents: We are in needed of a parent driver for 8th grade pictures on April 15th. Please contact office if you are able to help out.

BEST CHOICE UPC’S NEEDED:  We are just a couple hundred UPC’s short of our goal of 1000. For every 1000 submitted, OLOSS receives $30. Please send any in that you may have accumulated. Thanks to all who support this program!

The PRESCHOOL & KINDERGARTEN informational meetings are scheduled for this Tuesday, March 31st from 6:30 to 7:00 pm., in the respective classrooms. If you have a new preschooler or kindergartener make plans now to attend this short but informative meeting. Kindergarten parents will be able to schedule their pre-kindergarten screening test with Mrs. Eickhoff that evening as well.

SHOEMAN WATER PROJECTS:  For the last few years OLOSS has been participating in this project, whereby old or unwanted shoes are turned into the school and funds are generated to drill wells in Africa. Just tie or rubber band them together, throw in a bag, and send to school. Mrs. Massman will be delivering them to Jefferson City on Friday, April 10. Please see enclosed flyer for more information.

CAMDEN KEMPKER is all smiles this week, as he reports that he has a new baby brother! We welcome precious little Will Garrett, born on Monday, weighing in at 7 lb. 5 oz, and measuring 20 inches in length. We congratulate Camden, little brother, Eli, and proud parents Ashley & Samuel. Please pray for this family as they welcome their new baby boy!

BEEF STICKS:  We still have beef sticks left. We will not be selling them again next year. If you would like some, send a note saying how many. You can pay with cash or check to OLOS. They are $1 each. Thank you for your support!

GARDENING COMMITTEE:  We are asking for volunteers for the summer gardening committee. If we get enough help, families are usually assigned to two weeks during the summer to keep the watering done & to pull weeds. Please send a note to the office with your offer to help.
READING COUNTS NEWS: On Friday, May 8, 2015, the students earning 200 Reading Counts points will be enjoying a trip to Tan-Tar-A’s Timber Falls Water Park. We are departing at 8:00 am, enjoying the water park from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and returning back to school by 2:00 pm. Sack lunches, provided by the kitchen, will be enjoyed inside the park. A small portion of the $17 admission fee will be expected from the parent. The deadline for R.C. points is Thursday, April 23rd. More information will follow.

READING COUNTS TRIP ATTIRE:  There will be no bikinis allowed on this trip. If your daughter chooses to wear one, they must cover with a T-shirt. Tankinis are OK, but they must cover the middle. Boys cannot wear jean shorts, they must be trunks. No rivets allowed. You may send a life jacket for your child, but Tan-tar-a will supply them as well.

CARTRIDGES:  We received $52 for our recent cartridge submission. Thanks to all who send their used cartridges in!

TRASH BAGS: We have 12 rolls of white trash bags (15 gallon) and 5 rolls of blue (55 gallon) bags for sale that are left over from last years fundraiser.  They are $12.00 a roll.  Make checks payable to Our Lady of the Snows Parish.

8th GRADE GRADUATION DRESS CODE: Boys – dress pants, collared shirt, dress shoes, tie is optional; Girls – dresses, no more than 2 inches above the knee, no spaghetti straps showing (may wear shawl to cover). Students will be wearing cap/gown for graduation and awards ceremony.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION:  Freshman Orientation at Cole
 R-5 High School is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd, at 6:00 pm in the PAC (Performing Arts Center) and the High School gym. All incoming Freshmen and their parents need to attend this meeting.

8TH GRADE SLIDE SHOW:  Each 8th grade student needs to send in eight pictures, numbered 1-8, showcasing themselves from infant to present day. The deadline for these pictures is April 13th. The 8th graders will be taking pictures at the Capitol on April 15th.  8th graders should also be thinking of five songs to use during the slide show. Songs must be submitted to Mrs. Werdehausen for approval.

GOLF TOURNAMENT: Please keep trying to get some new sponsors and/or teams into the tournament. This is a major fundraiser for our school & parish, so please support it as you are able.  The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2015. If you need additional flyers, please contact the office.

HOLE SPONSORSHIP:  Just a reminder to all that if someone sponsors a hole in the golf tournament, the full amount is tax deductible.
WHO COULD PASS UP a good homemade cinnamon roll?  The NCYC youth group is raising money for their trip this year to Indianapolis, Indiana, by making and selling delicious cinnamon rolls on Sunday, March 29th, in the cafeteria. Please support this very important trip for the youth of our parish. .

SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS; SCHOOL WILL BE IN SESSION ON HOLY THURSDAY, APRIL 2 – BUT WE WILL BE DISMISSING AT 12:00 NOON. AND WE WILL BE IN SESSION A FULL DAY ON TUESDAY, APRIL 7TH.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS:  Students are attending Stations each Friday at 2:15. If you or grandparents are attending stations, and you would like to take your child after the service, please send a note to school. This will enable the student to bring his/her backpack with them to church.

SEEKING TEACHING PRINCIPAL: Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School, located in Mary's Home, MO, is seeking a teaching principal for the 2015-2016 school year.  Current PK-8 enrollment is 85 students.  Applicants must be willing to work closely with the pastor.  The qualified candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, have at least 3 years teaching experience, and a Master's Degree in Education with a Principal's certificate or working towards it.  Applicants should file an application with the Diocese of Jefferson City at www.diojeffcity.org and send a letter of interest to Fr. SPRING PICTURES: Many thanks to Ashley Burnett and Cindy McKenna, for volunteering to help with picture day. We couldn’t do it without you!

ST PATRICK’S DAY SOUP:  On Tuesday we had a handful of gentlemen here, enjoying the soup and fellowship. The 7th & 8th graders helped Mrs. Werdehausen host this luncheon. The men who were here really enjoyed themselves and we are so glad they shared the time with us!

OLOS PARISH PENANCE SERVICE is scheduled for Wednesday, March 25th at 7:00 pm. All families are strongly encouraged to make plans to attend this service. The second graders will be making their First Reconciliation that evening as well.  NO HOMEWORK WILL BE SENT HOME THAT EVENING. Ample time will be allowed in the classroom for any assignments.  If your child happens to bring work home that evening, consideration should be given as to how well class time is used.

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY is extended to two families this week. Our condolences to the Limbach family, on the passing of their grandpa & dad, Bill Limbach. The visitation is this evening from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm, in the church, with the funeral Mass at 10:00 am tomorrow (Saturday). We also send our sympathy to the Koetting/Schrimpf family, on the passing of step-mother & step-grandmother, Lee Koetting. Services for Lee were earlier this week. Please pray for the Limbach and Koetting families, as they mourn the passing of their beloved family members.

RICE BOWL:   As we get closer to Easter, we need to remember to use our Rice Bowls and calendars – as port of our Lenten plan to PRAY, FAST, and GIVE.  All offerings will be collected after Lent and forwarded to Catholic Relief Services.

GRADE CARDS: You will find your child’s grade card enclosed in today’s folder. Please look these over, sign, and return. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the classroom teacher.

SPRING PICTURES: Friday is Spring Picture day. Your child may dress up for pictures. Jeans/shorts may be worn, but all length requirements are still in force. Picture packets are in today’s folder.

HELP NEEDED: We could use two volunteers to help with picture day on Friday. The volunteer would get a $25 gift certificate, to be used towards picture purchases. Please call on Monday if you would be able to help out. Thank you!

SPEECH MEET RESULTS: Super duper job! High fives to Kayla Bond and Devin Haeffner, for their blue ribbons, earned Saturday for their duet humorous speech! Kayla & Devin performed their speech for the entire school on Monday morning – and it had all the students laughing. We are proud of you both!

ST PATRICK’S DAY SOUP:  On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, all gentlemen of the parish and community are invited to join us at 12:00 noon for soup and fellowship. Spread the word! We are looking forward to it!

PRESCHOOL NEEDS: The preschool classroom is in need of treasure box items and old cell phones and cameras. The little ones love to pretend with the phones and cameras and we are seeing the bottom of the treasure box!

OLOS SCHOOL AND FACEBOOK: Did you know that OLOSS is on Facebook? Search for Our Lady of the Snows Home & School Association and request to join. This group is open to all school families. grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends. It is a way to connect about all school related events and activities.
DRESS CODE:  As we experience colder weather, please be aware that the dress code colors INCLUDE any undershirt or shirt that shows. The only acceptable colors for undershirts are YELLOW, BLUE OR WHITE.

Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy. It is not appropriate for the school to send out extraneous information that can be handled other ways. Also, if you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items up, send them in, or email them to rosie@radiowire.net (call to let me know you have emailed please). I don’t mind doing a little editing and rewording, but the bulk of the item should be outlined with details.

HOODIE ALERT! Have you noticed that your child has come home without his or her hoodie? That could be due to the fact that it is in our lost & found – which now has a total of 16 school hoodies accumulated on the rack in the cafeteria, not to mention other nice jackets as well. To claim, visit the rack. Parents – might be a good idea to take a minute to put your child’s name on the tags of all coats & jackets.

STUDENT COUNCIL MEETING (rescheduled): The Student Council will meet this Wednesday, March 11th, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.
EARLY DISMISSALS & SNOW DAYS: In making decisions on early outs for snow days, along with snow days in general, our protocol for the 2014-2015 school year has been to follow Cole R-V's dismissal decisions. In keeping with this protocol, on Wednesday, March 4th, OLOS dismissed school at 9:00 a.m. after being informed that Cole R-V were sending students back home. Students’ safety is our 1st priority. When making an early out decision, we must call all the TV. Stations, set the Option C alert, & take dismissal instructions from parents. If you have a complaint or question about why we have dismissed early, please call after the dismissal time as our phone lines need to be used for the situation at hand. Due to the early out, April 7th will be a snow make up day. The School Advisory Board has decided that for the remainder of the year, the principal will use her discretion when it comes to early outs and school closings. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

COME ONE, COME ALL! All children and parents are invited to join us next Thursday, March 12th, for the Home & School meeting, beginning at 6:30 pm. We will be enjoying a potluck meal – so please bring a dish. We will also be having fun with a St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt – for children and adults!  Sounds like fun! Hope to see everyone then!

CONCERT:  Please see enclosed flyer outlining an event at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Camdenton, MO, featuring John Angotti, Christian songwriter and musician. It is taking place on Tuesday, March 24th, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. Angotti has been granted awards for “Male Vocalist of the Year”, “Pop/Contemporary”, and “Praise & Worship Album of the Year,” and this promises to be not only an enjoyable experience, but an insightful one as well. He has been a presenter at previous National Catholic Youth Conferences, which many of our former students have attended. This performance is for all ages, but would be wonderful for students 6th grade through college age.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS:  Students will be attending Stations each Friday at 2:15. If you or grandparents are attending stations, and you would like to take your child after the service, please send a note to school. This will enable the student to bring his/her backpack with them to church.

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION:  Freshman Orientation at Cole
 R-5 High School is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22nd, at 6:00 pm in the PAC (Performing Arts Center) and the High School gym. All incoming Freshmen and their parents need to attend this meeting.

READING COUNTS NEWS: On Friday, May 8, 2015, the students earning 200 Reading Counts points will be enjoying a trip to Tan-Tar-A’s Timber Falls Water Park. We are departing at 8:00 am, enjoying the water park from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and returning back to school by 2:00 pm. Sack lunches, provided by the kitchen, will be enjoyed inside the park. A small portion of the $17 admission fee will be expected from the parent. The deadline for R. C. points is Thursday, April 23rd .More information will follow.

EMERGENCY DRILLS:  During the months of February and March, OLOS School will be practicing scheduled and unscheduled emergency drills – including tornado, intruder, earthquake, and bomb threat. Your younger children may have concerns or questions, so you may take the time to discuss this with them.

SPELLING BEE PRACTICES. Practices will run from March 10 through April 14th, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Dates are on the calendar you are receiving today. The Spelling Bee is April 21st.

8TH GRADE GRADUATION: If any parent or student would like to organize the slide show for the reception, it would be much appreciated. Please contact the office with your offer to help. Thank you!

8th GRADE GRADUATION DRESS CODE: Boys – dress pants, collared shirt, dress shoes, tie is optional; Girls – dresses, no more than 2 inches above the knee, no spaghetti straps showing (may wear shawl to cover). Students will be wearing cap/gown for graduation and awards ceremony.
PRESCHOOL NEEDS: The preschool classroom is in need of treasure box items and old cell phones and cameras. The little ones love to pretend with the phones and cameras and we are seeing the bottom of the treasure box!

DRESS CODE:  As we experience colder weather, please be aware that the dress code colors INCLUDE any undershirt or shirt that shows. The only acceptable colors for undershirts are YELLOW, BLUE OR WHITE.
