THIS WEEK!!! OLOS School is sponsoring an “Internet & Cell Phone Safety Presentation for Parents” through the Mid-Mo. Internet Crimes Task Force (Columbia, MO). This presentation will be Tuesday, April 26th at 6:30 pm in the Center. This will include discussion on safety concerns dealing with cell phones, sexting, texting & the internet. A sign-up was previously sent out, but if you are interested and did not return the form, please let us know you would like to attend via a note, phone call or email. All parents are strongly encouraged to attend – this is information you need to know! High school students may also attend. Students in the 6th – 8th grades will be presented with a modified version of this earlier that same afternoon.

The kindergarten and first grade field trip is scheduled for May 13. They will be going to Leapfrog Fun Center in Holts Summit. More details soon.

Thanks to all parents for sending in the eggs for the hunt today. The kids had a great time!

REGISTRATION PACKETS (sent home last week) MUST BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED TO SCHOOL BY MONDAY, MAY 2ND.  We thank Amy Schwaller for donating a morning to compile these packets for us!

8th grade students should submit 6-8 pictures to the office for this show by Monday, April 25th. Pictures are usually in sequence from baby on up to current time for each student, so please put them in order (# on back 1, 2, 3...).8th graders: Mark your calendars – group pictures at the Capitol with Mrs. Trachsel on Tuesday, May 3rd.

READING COUNTS FIELD TRIP NEWS:  The Reading Counts Field Trip will be on Monday, May 9th (this is a state holiday). Grades PK – 2nd will be going to Miner Mikes at Osage Beach (maze only –WEAR SOCKS- REQUIRED!!) from 9-11 am. The 3-8 grades will be going to Lazer Force, at Lake Ozarks, from 9:30-11:00 am. Each student will get to play two games (20 minutes each) in groups of 24. Arcade games will be available at Lazer Force, but the student will need to bring extra spending money if they play these games. Lunch will be at a local park. Then all the students will enjoy an afternoon movie at the Lodge of the Four Season (from 12:30 – 2:30), with popcorn & soda included in the price. We should be back to school by 3:15-3:30 pm. There will be a fee for each child to attend ($8-10 range?). We will keep you updated as plans are finalized.

THE READING COUNTS DEADLINE FOR STUDENTS IS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27TH. PERMISSION FORMS WILL BE COMING HOME ONE TIME ONLY – ON FRIDAY, APRIL 29TH (on Th., Apr. 28th for 5/6 – who will be on field trips on Friday). WE MUST HAVE THESE TURNED BACK IN WITH REQUIRED PAYMENT ON MONDAY, MAY 2, IN ORDER TO MAKE FINAL PLANS FOR THE FIELD TRIP!!

The final day to return books to the library is Wednesday, May 4th. A fee of $5 will be charged for unreturned books.
May 20, 2011 is the final day of school for the 2010 - 2011 school year. This will be a half-day, with dismissal at 12:00 noon. Lunch will be served. There will also be extended care that afternoon. The last day of school for 8th graders will be FRIDAY MAY 13th.

CALLING ALL GREEN THUMBS AND WILLING WORKERS:  Help is needed this spring & summer to help keep the school flower beds & bushes weeded & watered.  Rex & Jeanne Buechter, Gina Adrian, Bryan & Stacey Evers, Lori Evers, Lynn Kempker, Nancy Kliethermes, Carla Morris, Rosie Beck, Sheila Adrian, Tammy Love & Marie Massman have volunteered but more help is needed. To volunteer please call the school office or contact Jeanne Buechter.

8th grade graduation:  Please remember the dress guidelines for graduates: Boys – dress pants, collared shirt, dress shoes, tie is optional; Girls – dresses, no more than 2 inches above the knee, no spaghetti straps showing, (may wear shawl to cover). Students will be wearing caps & gowns for the graduation & the awards portion of the reception. Cap & gown fee is $8.50 – WHICH IS NOW DUE!!!

Congratulations to the Spelling Bee participants. Overall, OLOS School took 5th place (out of 12 schools participating! Special congratulation to Alex Schulte – for placing 2nd in the 6th grade! Way to go! Other students placing in the 5th spot Cameron Haeffner, 6th or 7th spot were Kalie Massman, Dylan Lepper, Alison Buechter & Maggie Morris.

Please sign & return Progress Reports, found in today’s folder. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.

Kindergarten and First Grade field trip is scheduled for May 13. They will be going to Leapfrog Fun Center in Holt Summit. More details soon.

We will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt this Thursday morning (Holy Thursday), before we break for Easter. The hunt will be for students in Grades preschool through 4th. As usual, the older students will be hiding the eggs. Please send in ONE DOZEN CANDY FILLED EGGS by THIS Monday, April 18th - to the classroom, for your preschool through 4th grader. Eggs should be filled with candy that won’t melt in the sun and also no peanut butter products please. Older students who are feeling left out may bring treats to share that morning. Thanks to all for sending in the eggs!

There will be extended care on Holy Thursday afternoon.

The 4th Annual OLOS School Crappie Tournament will be held tomorrow, April 16, 2011, at Coffman Beach, Lake Ozark. You may register up until today, April 15th by calling Billy Bond (680-6394), Patsy Bond (369-3047) or Danny & Lori Evers (498-6203). Call any of them if you need more details about this event. There is a $50 entrance fee per team (late entries $10.00 per boat).

Zachary Vandike is a “big brother” again! We are pleased to announce the birth of baby Nicholas William Vandike, born on Thursday, weighing in at 8 lbs. 11 oz. Congratulations to Mr. V., wife Laura & “big sister” – Rylee. Mr. V. will be out next week, enjoying his new baby, and Luke Morris will be subbing in the classroom.

Congratulations to Zachary Eickhoff – proud big brother to little Jacob Daniel Eickhoff. Zachary’s brother was born on Tuesday, April 13th, and weighed 6 lb. 15 oz. Congratulations to mom & dad, Christina & John, big sister -  Mikayla, and of course one very proud grandmother – Mrs. Eickhoff!!

OLOS School will participate in the “Great Central U.S. ShakeOut” on April 28th. This is a first-of-its-kind, seven state simultaneous earthquake drill – to occur on the bicentennial of the great New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-12. We received $110.00 from Computer Supplies Unlimited for our recent submission of used ink cartridges. Thanks to all who save & send those in!

Everyone is invited to a “Slide Show of the Holy Land” on Thursday, April 14th at 1:30 pm in the Center gymnasium. The presentation will be 30 to 45 minutes long and promises to be very interesting. All school children will be in attendance and all community members are very welcome to attend.

8TH GRADE PARENTS: The Freshman Orientation, (originally scheduled for Monday, April 4th) has been rescheduled to Monday, April 11th at 6:30 pm, in the Cole R-V High School cafeteria.

Thank you to everyone who helped out and came to the book fair. The magician did a great job and wouldn’t even take money for doing the show! We earned approximately $700 worth in new books for our library! Great job!!!

There will be a Student Council meeting this Monday after school until approximately 3:30 pm, to decorate the cafeteria for Easter and discuss plans for Easter and end of year ideas. Members – bring your good ideas with you! Parents – please remember to send a note!

Thanks to all who clip & send in the Best Choice UPC’s. We received $90 for our recent submission.

All students drew names at Mass on Thursday. These are names of people in our parish who are confirmation candidates, RCIA candidates, or First Communicants. Please have your child (and your family) pray for this person. Students are also encouraged to make them cards. Cards can be sent to school, dropped off in the collection basket, or brought to the rectory. Thank you!
