$10,000 FANTASY NIGHT – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14^TH – This is our parish’s second biggest fundraiser, after the parish picnic. TICKETS are available now and can be acquired at the school office, OLOS Credit Union, Corner Market, or from Marla Kirkweg or Cindy Lepper. Please let Rosie know how many you need, via email or a note, and we will make arrangements to get them to you. Flyers are in today’s folder. We need ALL school families to help sell these 300 tickets. The “Early Bird” drawing for another ticket or $125 in cash will be on Sunday, September 24^th. Sign up/work sheets will be sent home next week. We ask that tickets and/or money for this event NOT be passed through the Friday folder.

FANTASY NIGHT SILENT AUCTION: We also need ALL school families to either sponsor an item for the Silent Auction, which occurs in conjunction with Fantasy Night, or to seek an item or items from local businesses or someone you do business with. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Hagenhoff or Rosie in the office.

GRANDPARENTS DAY & BOOK FAIR WEEK! On Wednesday, September 13^th, we will host “Grandparents’ Day”! Grandparents are asked to attend the Prayer Service at Church at 8:00 am. Students will meet their grandparents at church. Afterwards, we invite all to come over to the school for an opportunity to visit the classrooms and the Scholastic Book Fair (open until 10:00 am) and enjoy Cindy’s fantastic cinnamon rolls! Please contact your grandparents NOW to get this date on their calendar. Of course, if they can’t make it, a grandparent “substitute” can attend instead. We look forward to having them with us here at OLOS School!

BOOK FAIR EVENT! We will have the Scholastic Book Fair set up the same evening of our first Home & School meeting, set for 6:00 pm, on Monday, September 11^th. Please look at the flyer in today’s folder for more information.

HEALTH SCREENINGS are set for Wednesday, Sept. 20^th, beginning @ 8:30 am, for students of OLOS. Students will have a vision and hearing test, along with height/weight, and head checks. The vision/hearing/head checks will be performed by nurses from the Miller Co. Health Dept. Thanks to Ashley Burnett, Crystal Hoover, and Cindy McKenna, for volunteering to help!

COACHES NEEDED: Please let Mrs. Varner know if you are interested in coaching the older boys’ basketball team or being a cheer coach. The basketball season will be here before we know it!

EXTENDED CARE HOURS: Morning extended care hours are 6:30 am to 7:15 am. Normal drop off time begins at 7:15 am. You may drop your child in before 7:15 am, but YOU WILL BE CHARGED the $3 drop-in fee. Afternoon hours are 3:30 – 5:30 pm. If you are late for pick-up, please pay the attendant $1 for each minute you are late. Please don’t be late.

CLEARANCE - DRESS CODE/POLO SHIRTS FOR SALE (new, from Steph’s Tees) $5 each, 1 Adult Small light blue short sleeve, 2 adult Medium navy short sleeve, 1 Adult medium navy long sleeve. All have the cross logo on the front. Contact Rosie if you would like to purchase these.  1^st come, first serve.

DRIVERS NEEDED! We need parent drivers for the 7^th & 8^th graders to tour Helias High School on Monday, Sept. 25^th. Drivers MUST be a parent/guardian aged 25 or over and have had Virtus training, be able to show proof of insurance with $100,000/$300,000 coverage, supply a copy of their driver’s license, and fill out a driver information form. Please let us know if you can help us out. Joan D. is our first volunteer driver! Thank you!

20 HOURS OF SERVICE: 20 hours of service to OLOS School & Parish is required of parents of all school children. Most parents do many more than 20 hours of service here, but the expectation is that you do at least 20 per household. Student service hours are not included in the 20; they have their own goals within the school and classroom. Parent service hours should be logged on your family portal. Once in your portal, on the left side choose “Family”, select the parent’s name at the top middle, click “add” in the righthand corner and log your hours. They will be verified periodically by the school office staff. For tracking purposes, it may be easier to log all service hours performed by either parent under the parent who normally checks the portal. Perfect opportunities are coming up for fulfilling this requirement – OUR PARISH PICNIC & FANTASY NIGHT, along with other fundraisers, etc. If you are not able to fulfill this obligation, you may pay the hours out @ $10/hour, for a total of $200,

SUNDAY “ALL SCHOOL” MASSES will be on the first Sunday of each month. Our first one will be on Sunday, November 5^th. Mark your calendar now to make plans for your child to participate.

HOME & SCHOOL MEETINGS/POTLUCK: Please mark your calendar and plan on attending. We rely on ALL school families to help plan, coordinate, and support our teachers and school, and would like all parents to be active in this organization. We will begin each meeting with a potluck dinner. Your child/ren will receive a bonus dress down pass for your attendance!

YELLOW COMMUNITY SHIRTS: Today you are receiving the OLOS School community shirts. On the first Tuesday of each month, the school will celebrate one part of our community through activities and prayers, along with wearing a themed shirt. In September, although we are not having a formal community day, we will be focusing on our parish and our picnic preparation. Our theme for October will be the elderly and our grandparents, and our themed shirt will be worn on Tuesday, October 3^rd. You gave your child’s size for these shirts when you filled out the online portion of enrollment.

SCHOOL SPIRIT DRESS DOWN DAY: Thursday is our first school spirit day. Generally, we have one spirit day each month. When ballgames begin, we try to schedule them around home games. Students may ONLY dress down if they wear the school sponsored spirit shirt (may be new or old logo), sold by Steph Tees. Students do not have to participate. If they do not, they must wear regular school dress code attire. Do not get confused – the yellow shirts you are receiving today are NOT spirit shirts and should not be worn on spirit days.

It is a really easy process. You just tie your Gerbes shopper’s card to our school account. If you don’t have a Gerbes shopper’s card, it takes less than a minute to get one at the store or online. All the information needed to complete this process is online. @ www.gerbes.com/communityrewards. Our school code is TU152. It takes just a couple minutes so get all your family and friends to register as well! The school will receive quarterly payments in cash form. We will update you as we receive those funds. This has the potential to be a great moneymaker for the school – the key is to get many, many people involved. No selling needed! Please pass the word to family and friends and thanks for supporting OLOS School!!!

WELCOME! WELCOME BACK! Welcome one and all to Our Lady of the Snows School! We are so glad you are here! We especially wish to welcome our new students and staff! New preschoolers are Patrick A., Hattie C., Kinsley G., Mia K., Austin L., Cohen S., Jaxon D., & Maelyn S. Our one new Kindergartner is Brandy V., and our one new staff member is Mrs. Connie Wyrick from Tuscumbia, who will be teaching science lab on Fridays.

EMERGENCY DRILLS: OLOSS students/staff will be conducting drills over the next several weeks. Classroom teachers discuss these drills with students beforehand, but it may be a good idea to discuss these at home with your younger children ahead of time.

TREATS FOR CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS: Store-bought treats are preferred. Please contact the classroom teacher when you are ready to send in treats for your child’s birthday.

SUN BUTTER/LUNCH ALTERNATIVE: Students may choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée if they have a note from home. They must bring a note on the day that the substitution is desired and must present it to the classroom teacher first thing in the morning. Please note that the “main entrée” is the protein item. For example, if our meal is vegetable soup with grilled cheese & string cheese, the substitution would be for the cheese sandwich & string cheese, not for the vegetable soup.

REMINDER TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS BRINGING LUNCHES FROM HOME:  Please see that your child’s lunch has everything they need for their meal – drinks, plates, utensils, condiments, napkins. The lunch program cannot support the supply of these items. Thanks to families who donated some supplies – plates, cups, etc. Additional reminder – no soda or caffeinated beverages allowed to be brought in for students bringing their own lunch.

If we are out on a Wednesday, then that classroom will be skipped. This schedule will allow for parents and teachers to better plan ahead. You are always welcomed and encouraged to attend Mass on Wednesdays, especially if your child’s class is involved with the ministry. Throughout August & September, the 5-8^th grade classes will lead Wednesday prayer services, as Fr. Alex will be away during this time.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s), and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions and dosage cups/spoons. These will be locked up in the office. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring medications.
