CONGRATULATIONS to Mackenzie B. & Gianna M. on receiving their First Holy Eucharist this weekend. We are so proud of these girls and ask God’s blessing on them as they participate in this Sacrament of Initiation. We also congratulate and pray for all the 2nd graders in our parish who will be receiving First Eucharist on Sunday.

SKETCH DAY: Students attended Sketch Day today at the state capitol. As of this printing, we do not have the results. We will update you next week. But for right now, regardless, we want these young artists to know how very proud we are of them!

EVERYONE BRING FLOWERS! With May being the month of Mary and Monday being our May Crowning of Mary at the grotto, we are asking all students to bring in flowers on Monday – fresh or artificial - to decorate the grotto and to set on our prayer table here at school. Thanks so much!

 CHANGE OF DRESS DOWN DAYS: The school spirit day, on the calendar for May 5th, has been moved to May 10th.

Dress down days for the last three days of school:

Monday – May 8th – Field Day: Dress Down Day (may want to send a change of clothes, will be some water involved)

Tuesday, May 9th – Dress Down Day

Wednesday, May 10 – School Spirit Dress Down Day

SIXTH GRADE VOCATION DAY: Due to lack of drivers and the fact that this event is taking place in Columbia, our students will not be attending this year. So that they don’t miss out on this opportunity, coordinators assured us that these students could attend next year as 7th graders.

FISHING TRIP: Students in 2nd through 8th grades are going to Cindy & Donnie Lepper’s farm this Monday, May 1st, using equipment gained through the MDC grant. Students will be leaving school to fish after lunch. Students may bring their own poles & equipment/bait, but we do have 20 rods/reels available for student use. You may want to send sun lotion and bug spray for your child – but please, no sharing with non-family members. PARENT DRIVERS – please arrive just before 12:00 noon and wait in the parking lot behind the gym. When students are ready to leave at noon, teachers will bring them to your vehicles.

FEES/BILLS: Fees we will look at as we come up on the end of the year include but are not limited to: preschool fees, extended care fees, lunch fees, out-of-parish tuition, unreturned or damaged books, unserved service hour charges, etc, Final grade cards will be released to families who have all fees paid in full by Monday, May 8th. Final re-enrollment for the next school year is contingent upon all fees for the current year being paid in full. If you have any questions, please call the school office.

20 HOURS OF SERVICE: Parents/Guardians – have you fulfilled your 20 service hour obligation? If you have unfulfilled hours, please contact Rosie in the office – do not document in the parent portal. All unfulfilled service hours will accrue a fee of $10 per hour unserved.

MENU CHANGE: We will flip the meals for May 8th & 9th to accommodate our field day activities.

2022-23 YEARBOOK: Yearbooks for the 22-23 school year will be available in August and must be pre-ordered. Order forms were recently sent home, but if you’ve misplaced yours and still want to order, just send in $20 per copy to the school office (checks payable to OLOS).

SCHOOL SHIRT/HOODIE/SPIRIT ORDERS: Forms were recently sent home and are also available on the parish/school website. All orders received in the school office by the last day of school will be available at Open House in August.

DRIVING STUDENTS: If you drive students other than your own on a field trip, you must have VIRTUS (Protecting God’s Children) training & also must show proof of $100,000/$300,000 insurance coverage.

HIGH PRIORITY!!! VIRTUS – PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN: All School parents/guardians will be REQUIRED to have VIRTUS training to finalize enrollment their child in OLOS School next school year. This includes BOTH parents. This training is offered online @ virtusonline.org. You simply create and account, specify that you are with “Jefferson City Diocese” and begin the training. It usually takes a little less than two hours total, and you can save your progress and come back to it later, if needed. Thank you!

SUMMER SCHOOL is available for OLOS students through Cole R-V for all students who will be in Kindergarten through 6th grade in the 23-24 school year. Please visit the Cole R-V website @ https://coler-v-k12-ct.schoolloop.com/ for more information and to sign up. SUMMER SPORTS CAMP information is being sent home today.

FIELD DAY: See schedule enclosed in today’s folder for volunteer assignments. If you don’t see your name and you want to join us for the day, please call the school office.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL: The last day of school is Wednesday, May 10th, We will celebrate Mass at 8:00 am., pray the Rosary after Mass, begin with Preschool Graduation & 8th Grade recognition at 9:00 am, and lead into the Awards Ceremony around 9:30 am. Students may be signed out after the Awards Ceremony by their parent, but final dismissal time is 11:00 am. No lunch will be served, and no afternoon extended care will be offered.

SKETCH DAY: Good luck to the following students who will be attending Sketch Day on Friday: Shane B, Natalie G., Adam S., Braden S., Rylee V., Madelyn D., Romie G., & Jessi W. We wish you good luck!

DARE: Many thanks to Detective Randy Wheeler and Deputy Megan Smith, our DARE educators. These two individuals from the Miller County Sheriffs Dept. did such a phenomenal job on working with our students and caring for them. Please, if you see them out and about, make sure to thank them for their efforts. Congratulations to Ryan R., for winning the poster contest! We are proud of him and ALL of our 4th through 8th grade DARE graduates!

MUFFINS WITH MOM: Thank you so much for your participation and support of our fellowship day on Wednesday. It was so good to see all the moms and family members with us for Mass and the other activities. Special thanks to Amber Schutle and Jena Schwaller, coordinators of the Muffins with Mom event. We appreciate YOU!

END OF YEAR PACKET: Enclosed today in this folder is a packet with the fees schedule, 23-24 calendar, one- & two-year physical forms, and supply lists, in case you have misplaced yours. These forms are also available on our school/parish website.

SUMMER SCHOOL is available for OLOS students through Cole R-V for all students who will be in Kindergarten through 6th grade in the 23-24 school year. Please visit the Cole R-V website @ https://coler-v-k12-ct.schoolloop.com/ for more information and to sign up.

MIDWEST MARCH FOR LIFE: MidWest March for Life is on April 26, 2023. We are supporting parents who would like to take their children to this march (excused absence), but we would like it to be the parent’s option to take them. There is an opportunity to purchase a special lunch, which includes a quarter-pound grilled hot dog, chips, water, ice cream, and cookies for $5.00 each lunch, and a family rate of 4 or more for $20.00. For more information, visit  midwestmarchforlife.com.

MIDTERM PROGRESS REPORTS:

3-8 Progress Reports are available online. To access Progress Reports on your family portal - sign in, then follow these steps:

On left, click “Student”

On left, directly under “Student Home” click “Grades”

In upper middle/left screen click “Midterm Progress Report”

If you have more than one student, you can switch between them on the upper left. Please sign the slip enclosed in today’s folder, acknowledging that you reviewed the report. It is a good idea to log in weekly to check grades.

K-2 Progress Reports: Enclosed in today’s folder. Look these over and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the classroom teacher.

MUFFINS WITH MOM & DARE: We are calling all MOMS for a special morning of fun, faith, & fellowship on Wednesday, April 19th, beginning with Mass at 8:00 am. After Mass, while the younger students pray the rosary at church, the 4-8 graders will come back over to school for their DARE graduation (beginning @ approximately 8:45 am). Parents can stay and pray with their child at church or move over to school if they have a DARE graduate. After graduation, we will have refreshments and a short activity for students to do with mom. If mom can’t make it, feel free to invite another VIP. And of course, if dad or grandparents want to attend the DARE graduation, we welcome them to do so! (Note - DARE graduation had to be moved from March 31st due to scheduling conflicts.)

HIGH PRIORITY! THE ONLINE RE-ENROLLMENT PACKET FOR THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR is now available on your family portal. Instructions were sent home recently in the folder, but if you have any questions, please call the school office.  All Registration Fees will be due at the time of Open House in August. There will be no early registration discount or discount for referrals.

FIELD DAYCHANGE OF DATE! Due to state workers being off work on Truman’s birthday, Monday, May 8th, we are moving Field Day to that date in order to get more volunteer help. Christina Eickhoff has volunteered to coordinate, along with help from Amy Hagenhoff, Amber Schulte, Cindy McKenna, Crystal Hoover & Joan Doerhoff. We will still need several more volunteers, so if you are able to help, or have good ideas for the day, please contact Christina Eickhoff or the school office.

Helias Catholic Speech and Debate Team Hogsmeade Carnival and Trivia Night: Join us on April Fool's Day at Helias Catholic High School for fun and frivolity at the Hogsmeade Carnival and Trivia Night hosted by the Helias Catholic Speech and Debate Team! Events at the April 1 carnival (1:00-3:00 p.m.) will include a cauldron cake walk, book toss, pin the nose on Voldemort, a sorting station, wand making, a mini muggle play area, portkey plinko, butterbeer, dragon egg cracking, silent auction (this will end during the trivia night) and much more. The trivia night (4:00-6:00 p.m.) will include Harry Potter trivia, a silent auction, costume contest, table-decorating contest, butterbeer and more. Proceeds of the carnival and trivia night will benefit the Helias Catholic Speech and Debate Team to help students attend competitions.
