SKETCH DAY RESULTS! Congratulations to our Sketch Day participants, who did a great job on Wednesday at the State Capitol. We are proud of you all! The following awards were received:

FISHING DAY WAS A SUCCESS! We were blessed to be able to have our students get this opportunity before the rain moved in on Tuesday! Thanks so much to Donnie & Cindy Lepper for hosting our students at their beautiful lake and to Darryl Love for all the prep. work on the fishing rods & reels. Of course, we are always thankful for our great helpers and drivers. It takes everyone to make these days work out! Look for fun photos on Facebook.

THREE SCHOOL FAMILIES!  We just want to take this opportunity to recognize the fact that three of our graduates are the last students in their families to attend OLOS. We will miss having the Charlie & Missy Beck family, the Kevin & Missy Evers family & the Fred & Wendy Whittle family with us as well and appreciate your years of commitment & service to the school.

FEES/BILLS/GRADE CARDS: Final grade cards will be released to families who have all fees paid in full by Wednesday, May 1st. Final reminders are in today’s folder. Please remember, if you are using extended care into next week and are not on the daily schedule, add these fees to your final payments. ($3 drop in mornings, $7 drop in afternoons).

20 HOURS OF SERVICE: All unfulfilled service hours accrue a fee of $10 per hour unserved. You will find notice in today’s folder if you have unserved or undocumented hours remaining.

FIELD DAY: All volunteers please meet in the lunchroom at 7:45. At that time, you will receive further instructions and all equipment needed for the day. If you signed up or let us know you could help, we are counting on you for the times you indicated. We are looking forward to a very fun day on Tuesday!

LAST CALL! Yearbooks for the 23-24 school year will be available in August and must be pre-ordered. If you would like to order and have not already done so, please send in $22.50 per book in a marked envelope to the school office (checks payable to OLOS).

ICE CREAM TO SUPPORT OUR $6000 GOAL TO HELP BUILD A SCHOOL IN UGANDA! During this last week of school, students will continue to have the opportunity near the end of each school day to purchase a frozen treat for $1. Please send in money if you have not done so already. Thanks to those who sent in extra money and to those who gave us money who don’t even have children in school! You are awesome!

VOCATIONS DAY: 6th & 7th graders will all be attending Vocations Day on Wednesday, May 1st, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbia. Thanks so much to Amber Schulte & Roselyn Wood for volunteering to drive our students. Lunch is provided onsite for this event. Each student will receive a T-shirt.

FACEBOOK ALERT! Be watching for new faces to be joining us @ OLOS next year. We will be featuring new preschoolers and new students as they join our school family.

 LAST DAY OF SCHOOL: The last day of school is Friday, May 3rd. Please join us for a prayer service at 8:00 am. Invite family and friends! We will then begin Preschool graduation (approx. 8:30 am), move on to 8th Grade Recognition, and then move forward with the Awards ceremony for all grades. Students may be signed out after the Awards Ceremony by their parents. Final dismissal time is 11:00 am. No lunch will be served, and no afternoon extended care will be offered.

SUMMER NEWS! Like last summer, Mrs. Varner will be sending out a monthly summer newsletter to all school families via the parent alert system. In these newsletters you will find a link to our updated Amazon wish list, a link for ordering school shirts and apparel over the summer, and much more helpful information and updates. CONGRATULATIONS to our students receiving First Eucharist this weekend. We wish Jax K., Liam L, Colton M., & Hatti S. a lifetime filled with God’s love and guidance, receiving this Sacrament of Initiation in their Catholic journey. Please pray for these students and all students from Our Lady of the Snows Parish.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jessica Kempker & Greg Connell, newly elected members of the School Advisory Council. We thank outgoing member, Monica Bittle, for serving the past few years and to Monica, Cindy McKenna, & Ashley Burnett for being willing to run for election to the Council. We appreciate your enthusiasm!

FINAL PRESCHOOL BILLS are in today’s folder, for any who have a balance due. Final payment is due no later than May 1, 2024.

SERVICE HOURS: Please take the time to update your service hours. Remember - the expectation is that you do at least 20 hours per household per school year, and this does not include your child’s service hours. IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 20 HOURS LOGGED, YOU WILL FIND YOUR REPORT IN TODAY’S FOLDER. If you are not able to fulfill this obligation, you may pay the hours out @ $10/hour. (20 hrs = $200)

VOCATIONS DAY: 6th & 7th graders will all be attending Vocations Day on Wednesday, May 1st, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbia. Thanks so much to Amber Schulte & Roselyn Wood for volunteering to drive our students. Lunch is provided onsite for this event.

FISHING DAY AT LEPPER LAKE for 2nd through 8th graders will be this Tuesday, April 23, 2024, departing from school @ 12:00 noon.  DRIVERS – Please arrive by 11:50 am, park behind the gym, and stay with your vehicles. This will allow time for students to finish lunch and get ready to depart and avoid confusion. School staff will bring the students to your vehicle.

ICE CREAM TO SUPPORT OUR $6000 GOAL TO HELP BUILD A SCHOOL IN UGANDA! During the last two weeks of school, students will have the opportunity near the end of each school day to purchase a frozen treat for $1. If students buy a treat every day they will be offered, they will need to bring in $8 BUT feel free to send in extra $ in support of the cause, to cover the expense, and for any student who may forget or not be able to afford a daily treat. FUNDRAISING DANCE PROCEEDS: $738 dance, $400 Pizza Kwik = Total $1138. Thanks to Cindy McKenna for coordinating this fundraiser and the volunteers who helped out that evening!

DRESS DOWN PASSES & PICTURE DAY: All currently issued dress down passes expire at the end of this school year. We are asking all students (except preschoolers) to be in school uniform on Thursday, April 25th for group picture taking.

MIDTERM PROGRESS REPORTS:

3-8 Progress Reports are available online. To access Progress Reports on your family portal - sign in, then follow these steps:

On left, click “Student”

On left, directly under “Student Home” click “Grades”

In upper middle/left screen click “Midterm Progress Report”

If you have more than one student, you can switch between them on the upper left. Please sign the slip enclosed in today’s folder, acknowledging that you reviewed the report. It is a good idea to log in weekly to check grades.

K-2 Progress Reports are enclosed in today’s folder. Look these over and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the classroom teacher.

SERVICE HOURS: While you are checking Progress Reports in your family portal, please take the time to update your service hours. 24-25 PARENT PLANNING meeting on Monday, April 15th @ 5:30 pm in the school cafeteria to plan activities for the students and staff in the upcoming school year. Please plan on attending or if you have ideas and can’t make it, contact Jena Schwaller or the school office.

VIP DAY: Thanks to all who joined us on Wednesday morning for Mass and fellowship. The students always so enjoy having their “important people” here at school with them – it makes them feel very special! SOLAR ECLIPSE VIEWING: What a fun and interesting Monday afternoon spent outside. It was good to share the experience with several parents. The students will be sure to think back on the eclipse of 2024 when they are 20 years older in 2044 & 2045, the next opportunities to view a total solar eclipse in the US. SCIENCE FAIR RESULTS! Congratulations to the following students for a job well done! Thank you, students, for some great projects! Most of all we wish to thank Mrs. Wyrick, for her countless hours of help with our students’ projects and for her enthusiasm! We so appreciate her! Also, we want to recognize and thank Mr. Brett Morris & Mrs. Colleen Abbott, who were judges for our local fair, along with student judges from Tuscumbia High School – Leila Wright, Reagan Ahart, Damon Whittle, Jonah Visser, & Colin Stokes.

ARCHERY NEWS: The older students have all now received their required training for the school year. Fourth graders did really well and are sufficiently trained. We thank Andy Adrian for a job well done! Your expertise is so much appreciated, Andy! We will ask for interest at the beginning of the school year to see if any students want to form an archery group to practice in the evenings.

HEAVY LIFTING! Thanks so much to Tom Olisgschlaeger and K of C members for picking up and bringing in the two fireproof filing cabinets last week. It took every one of a group of approximately 15 men to get the job done. State Surplus told us that the cabinets weighed 300 pounds each, but these guys are sure they meant 3000! These file cabinets were needed to store academic records and to meet an objective from our self-study evaluation we performed a few years ago.

FISHING DAY AT LEPPER LAKE for 2nd through 8th graders will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, departing from school @ 12:00 noon. We still need one more driver. To date we have the following drivers: Amber Schulte, Derrick Pringer, Joan Doerhoff, Tracie Brandt, Crystal Hoover, Tom Oligshlaeger, & Emily Schulte. Once we get ONE MORE DRIVER, we will send home permission forms; expect them to come home EARLY NEXT WEEK.

2024-2025 ONLINE ENROLLMENT is FINALIZING! If you have not already done so, please submit your child’s online enrollment. You recently received instructions for enrolling your child(ren) for the next school year. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call the school office. If we haven’t received it by the end of the week (April 12), you will be called.

VIP DAY: OLOS H & S will be hosting VIP Day on Wednesday, Aril 10th, beginning with the 8:00 am Mass. Students may each ask 2 people to attend that morning with them. After Mass, there will be refreshments and bingo at school. Our guests will also be able to look at our students’ great science fair projects!

SOLAR ECLIPSE VIEWING: Monday, April 8: The best time to view in our area is around 2:00 pm. We will plan to go outside around 1:45 as a group and stay outside for 30 minutes. We will watch from the playground. Family members are invited to come join us and are invited to bring a chair if they wish. We have enough glasses for all the students and staff and a few extra, but please plan on bringing your own.

DRIVERS NEEDED! We would like to send all of our 6th & 7th graders to the Vocations Day on Wednesday, May 1st, at Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbia. Last year, the 6th graders were unable to attend. Please, if you are able to drive, let us know as soon as possible so that we are able to make reservations for our students. We do have one driver so far, so the 6th graders will be attending.
