PATRIOTIC ROSARY FOR ACTIVE MILITARY, VETERANS & COMMUNITY! This upcoming Wednesday, Feb. 1st, the students will pray the Patriotic Rosary in church, after Mass. This is a beautiful prayer; each student is a “bead” in the rosary and represents one of the states in our nation. We actually form a living rosary around the inside perimeter of the church. Following the Rosary, we will all move over to the cafeteria for a reception. Please join us and help spread the word!

DARE: Officers from Miller County Sheriff’s Dept. will be here each Friday to continue the 10-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education program for our 4th, 5th & 6th graders. They also began meeting with our 7th & 8th graders today as well, with a more advanced program. DARE graduation will be on March 31st.

SHOW ME SUDS FUNDRAISER will begin on Friday, Feb. 3rd & run through Monday, Feb. 27th. This is a great opportunity to help our school & parish youth by selling and purchasing high quality, name brand comparable, laundry detergents, dish soaps, dishwasher pods, & dryer sheets. Sales sheets will be sent out on Friday, Feb. 3rd and should be returned, with payment, by Monday, Feb. 27th. All products will be available for pick up on Sunday, March 5th at the back gym doors from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Contact Joan Doerhoff or the school office for more information. Thanks so much for supporting our school and parish!

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK UPON US! It is Jan. 29 – Feb 5th. We will honor our Nation, Community, Vocations, Students, & Staff. A final schedule is in today’s folder. Please use it as a reference for the upcoming week. We will be posting pictures of events daily on Facebook.

HILLEY & HART & THE READING CARAVAN! Thanks to Kevin Hilley & Erin Hart from 94.3 KAT Country for coming out yesterday (Thursday) to read to some of our younger students. Hilley & Hart broadcast each morning and are trying to get out more to the schools again. OLOS School is the first school they’ve been able to read to in quite some time. If you are on Facebook, see the post. We thank them so very much!

CALLING ALL DADS! We will have Donuts with Dad on Wednesday, March 8th, beginning with the 8:00 am Mass. After Mass, we will come over to the cafeteria for refreshments and a quick gardening project! If dad isn’t available, feel free to invite a VIP to sub in!

SAVE THE DATES:

MARDI GRAD MOUSE RACE FUNDRAISER, sponsored by OLOS Parish & School is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25th from 6:00 to 11:00 pm. This includes mouse races, 50/50 drawing, plinko, food and LOTS of fun. Must be 21 to attend. Contact Paula Evers (573-690-6917) or Stacey Evers (573- 338-6112) for more information or with offers to help.

SHILOH DANCE/PIZZA KWIK: sponsored by OLOS Parish & School, Saturday, March 25th from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. Doors open @ 6:30 pm. Pizza Kwik will be here for pizza sales from 12:00 noon through 9:00 pm. More information to come! This would be a great opportunity to earn service hours.

SCHOOL CLOSING: Any emergency early dismissal or closing of the school will be announced by parent alert (text, email, voice) and through social media, as well as over area television stations. PARENTS SHOULD NOT CALL the school office during inclement weather conditions to learn if the school is closing early. This unnecessarily ties up our phone lines for emergency communications. A phone call into school during this time will delay the process of getting our communications out to all families. Please note that afternoon extended care services are NOT available in the event of early dismissal due to weather or other emergencies.

OUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 22-23 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by the Tuesday of the week following, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family. Congratulations to Jacob E. for winning our last drawing!

THINGS TO BE AWARE OF IN THE UPCOMING MONTHS:

·          If you drive students other than your own on a field trip, you must have VIRTUS (Protecting God’s Children) training & also must show proof of $100,000/$300,000 insurance coverage.

·          All School parents/guardians will be REQUIRED to have VIRTUS training to enroll their child in OLOS School next school year. This includes BOTH parents. This training is offered online @ virtusonline.org. You simply create and account, specify that you are with “Jefferson City Diocese” and begin the training. It usually takes a little less than two hours total, and you can save your progress and come back to it later, if needed. Set this as one of your New Year goals! Thank you!

Please return your folder on Monday.

Enjoy the winter weekend!

HOME & SCHOOL MEETING/ARCHERY INFO! Our 3rd H & S meeting is scheduled for this upcoming Monday, January 9th at 6:00 pm, beginning with a potluck meal in the school cafeteria. We will begin the meeting at 6:15 pm with a short archery presentation & question & answer session with Andy Adrian. HOME & SCHOOL AGENDA: Items may be added to the agenda by contacting Roselyn Wood by 9:00 am Monday morning, and with the approval of Mrs. Varner. The H & S’s mission is to promote our school through family & community participation and by supporting teachers & facilitating communication.

BALLGAME NEWS: All reports were that the boys fought hard on Thursday night, but in the end did not win against St. Peter, JC. We are proud of their good spirit and sportsman- ship. Our cheer team also showed much school pride and we are so proud of them as well! Thanks to all parents for traveling to these games!

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY: On Monday, our students will be involved in our January Community Service Day, with the theme this month on our own parish and school. Each classroom has picked a specific project in service to our parish and school – in essence, an early “spring cleaning”, doing tasks such as dusting, cleaning walls, cleaning windows, and so on. Remember, your child should come to school on Monday wearing their community “Heart” shirts (Tuesday for preschoolers) and may dress down (bottoms) adhering to all length and the no holes/fraying requirements.

I-READY TESTING: Students will take part in I-Ready testing next week. We will use the results of this test to meet the unique needs of each student.

SCHOOL CLOSING: Any emergency early dismissal or closing of the school will be announced by parent alert (text, email, voice) and through social media, as well as over area television stations. NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 16th, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

PROPANE THAT PAYS… Propane is projected to cost much more this winter. Ordering early can help offset some of this cost for you. This is the time of year when many people like to fill propane tanks or prepay. If you are or would like to be a customer of Capital Energy Co, please LET THEM KNOW that you are a member of OLOS parish (They cannot issue a donation on the customer’s behalf unless the customer tells them they are a member of the parish.) The parish receives a percentage for every gallon the customer buys, and usually have some of the cheaper prices in the area. Last year the parish received nearly $1000. That’s worthwhile! Thank you for your support!

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 22-23 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by the Tuesday of the week following, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family. Congratulations Natalie & Charlotte for winning our last drawing!

Please return your folder on Monday.

Have a wonderful WINTER weekend!
