WELCOME NEW LITTLE SISTER!! Congratulations to proud big brother & sister, Landon  & Elaina Backues, on the arrival of their sweet little baby sister, Emory Rose. Emory was born last Thursday, and weighed in at 8 lbs. 3 oz and was 20” long. The proud parents are Garrett & Amber Backues. Please keep this happy family in your prayers! Blessings!

ROOM PARENTS/VALENTINES: Room parents – we rely on you to plan for games & refreshments for our classroom parties. Valentine’s parties are scheduled for Feb. 14th at 1:45 pm. Thanks for all your help!

THE SCHOOL FUNDRAISING DANCE has been rescheduled to Sat., Feb. 9th, featuring “Whiskey Throttle”. More help is needed with set-up at 10:00 am. Please contact Cindy McKenna or Rosie with your offer to help out. Thank you!

GERBES COMMUNITY REWARDS: We just received our quarterly payment of $55.77. This is up about $25 from previous quarters, so thank you to the new supporters! See below the details on how you can link your Gerbes shopper’s card to support our school!

SIGN UP FOR GERBES COMMUNITY REWARDS:  OLOS is enrolled in the Gerbes “Community Rewards” program. This program offers money back to our school, based on enrolled customer’s spending. It is a really easy process. You just tie your Gerbes shopper’s card to our school account. If you don’t have a Gerbes shopper’s card, it takes less than a minute to get one at the store and also online. All the information needed to complete this process is online. @ www.gerbes.com/communityrewards. Our school code is 48253. It takes just a couple minutes so get all your family and friends to register as well! The school will receive quarterly payments in cash form. We will update you as we receive those funds. This has the potential to be a huge moneymaker for the school – the key is to get many, many people involved. Please pass the word to family and friends and thanks for supporting OLOS School!!! 

STUDENT COUNCIL VALENTINE’S DAY CANDYGRAMS: Order forms may be found in today’s folder. Please return any orders & payment on Monday. The Student Council will meet on Wednesday evening and will fill these orders. Thank you for supporting the Student Council!

PRESCHOOL SIGN-UP 2019-2020: If you are interested in reserving a spot for your preschooler for the next school year, please contact Rosie in the school office. Preschool is offered daily and preference is given to families of our parish, with full-time given preference over part-time (3 days/wk). However, we usually are able to accommodate whomever has an interest. And, as always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to call or drop in.

FIRST EUCHARIST for 2nd Graders will be on Sunday, May 5, 2019, 12:00 noon Mass. There will still be an 8:00 am Mass that morning. Practice for First Eucharist will be Sunday, April 28th at 9:15 am.

READING COUNTS SHIRTS (earned at 75 points) can be worn any day in lieu of regular dress code shirt, unless specifically announced by the school in advance. They do NOT substitute for the official school spirit shirt.

HELIAS CATHOLIC OPEN HOUSE: Come visit Helias for our annual Open House on Sat., Feb. 2 from 11-1. Take a look at our facilities, meet teachers, coaches and administrators, explore our activities and clubs, learn about how we are building Saints and Scholars. Incoming Freshmen/Parent meeting is at NOON during the Open House on Feb. 2. We will also have Freshmen Registration nights on Feb. 12 and 13 (pick one) from 4-6 pm, where incoming Freshmen admission process will be explained and paperwork can be filled out. All are welcome! St Andrew Life Affirming Committee/40 Days for Life is pleased to have Kristan Hawkins, President of the National Students for Life of America as the MidWest March keynote speaker on Feb 2 at the Missouri State Capitol rotunda.  Please watch for further updates or go to www.midwestmarchforlife.com or call 573 340 8444 for more information.  We have a full day planned (7:45 am to 4:00pm -- come for all or whatever is convenient for you) for families to participate. Kristan Hawkins will give a seminar especially tailored for students (6th grade to college) at St Peter's Selinger Center at 1pm to 2:45pm.  Please call the phone number to register so we may have enough materials.

ITALIAN FEAST NEWS: You will find in today’s folder the work list for this event. It takes ALL school families to pull off an event of this size, so please, if you have not signed up, contact Melissa Koetting or Rosie in the office.

CLASS BASKETS: For the Italian Feast each classroom sponsors a basket, in which is placed items donated by the parents of the classroom. You may send in an item for the basket or $5 & let the teacher do the shopping. Each family is responsible for 1 item for the classrooms they have children in, and also responsible for one other item to place directly on the auction, either through solicitation or donation. (For example, Parent A has three children in school. He/she will purchase a gift for 1st grade basket, 3rd grade basket & 7th grade basket, and also asks their friendly business owner for a donation or the Parent A can donate an item directly.) Classroom themes are:
PK – Backyard Fun Basket
K/1 – Game Night Basket (games & snacks)
2 – Gift Card Basket
3/4 – Mizzou Basket      
5/6 – A Day at the Spa Basket
7/8 – Camping Basket

WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE DONATIONS SO FAR, SO PLEASE SEND IN ITEMS – BOTH FOR THE CLASS BASKETS AND INDIVIDUAL ITEMS FOR THE TABLES.

OLOSS “BEE” KIND CLUB: Students who were recognized for acts of kindness and generosity on 12-14 were: PK – Esdon Koetting – sharing his crayons, Maddie St. George – helping another student at recess, K – Oliver Hagenhoff – helping another student with their work, 1st – Alayna Wood – being a great classroom helper,  2nd – Karter Lage – picking up someone’s trash in the lunchroom, 3rd – Alyssa Eickhoff – letting another student go before her,, 4th – Avery Wood – helping another student, 5th – Nolan Schulte – always trying to help his friends when they have a problem,, 6th – Garet Wood – being a good friend to everyone & having a positive attitude, Phoebe Whittle – helping in church with an emergency, 7th –Ayden Schulte – volunteering to read during Capitol caroling,  8th – Jordan Bittle – stepping in for Ethan during Mass & reading, Matthew Beck – helping Mrs. Eickhoff. 7th & 8th graders – for being such a great help at the volunteer luncheon and for the St. Lucy activities. All acts of kindness “bees” are displayed in the school cafeteria. (Note – the first student listed in each grade is kindness noted by the classroom teacher. If any additional are listed, they have been noted by other members of the staff.) Great job, students!


 FIRST EUCHARIST for 2nd Graders will be on Sunday, May 5, 2019, 12:00 noon Mass. There will still be an 8:00 am Mass that morning. Practice for First Eucharist will be Sunday, April 28th at 9:15 am.

THE K OF C ANNUAL FREE THROW CONTEST is scheduled for Sunday, January 13th at 12:00 noon in the school/parish gym. Boys & girls ages 9-14 may participate.

HELIAS CATHOLIC OPEN HOUSE: Sat., Feb. 2, 2019, 11-1 pm. At NOON that day will also be our Incoming Freshmen Meeting in the Commons. All are welcome to visit Helias. Take a tour, meet teachers and learn more about how we are building saints and scholars.
