ITBS/ACHIEVEMENT TESTING for grades 3rd through 8th begins this Monday, October 2nd and continues each morning throughout the week. Although students get a drink & snack each morning at school, please make sure your child eats a good breakfast and gets plenty of rest. In the afternoons, students will resume normal classroom routines.

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY IS TUESDAY! This month, we will focus on the firefighters and first responders who serve our community. Classroom activities are being planned around these individuals. All students are asked to please wear the new YELLOW HEART SHIRTS on Tuesday. Students may also wear jeans or shorts that meet the length requirements. Our service to others is very important. It is a public expression of our faith. It is how we express our belief in God and live out Jesus’s teachings.

$10,000 FANTASY NIGHT – SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14TH: Tickets are still available and can be acquired at the school office or from Marla. CONGRATULATIONS to Doerhoff Farms (Allen & Joan Doerhoff) for being the lucky winners of the “Early Bird” drawing. Their name was drawn from the 200 sold tickets. They chose to receive another ticket into the Fantasy Night drawing. We now ask that you please turn in all SOLD and UNSOLD tickets to the school office no later than Wednesday, October 4th.

THE FANTASY NIGHT WORK SIGN-UP FORMS are in today’s folder. Please sign up to help any place you are able, and keep in mind that we rely on all families to help set up and clean up, regardless of the areas they help in otherwise. Let’s all work together like a family to make this a super fundraiser!

FANTASY NIGHT SILENT AUCTION: We are asking ALL school families to either sponsor an item for the Silent Auction, which occurs in conjunction with Fantasy Night, or to seek an item or items from local businesses or someone you do business with. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Hagenhoff or Rosie in the office.

FANTASY NIGHT – ITEMS STILL NEEDED! Thanks to all who volunteered to donate items from the list. Please send in what you volunteered to donate during the week of October 9th (We have two weddings coming up before F. N. so this limits our storage space.) Items still needed include big bags of Kingsford Charcoal (no substitutes), 6 big bags of mini chocolate bars, 2 big bags of mints, 5 cases Mt. Dew, 3 cases Diet Coke, 5 cases 7-up, 2 bottles A-1. Please let Rosie, Roselyn, Jena, or Mrs. Varner know if you can donate any of the remaining items. Thank you!

2023-24 STUDENT COUNCIL FORMED! Congratulations to the following newly elected/appointed students! President – Shane B., Vice-President – Jacob B., Treasurer – Madelyn D., 8th Reps. – Alex H. & Natalie G., 7th Reps. – Nicholas V. & Gus P., 5th Rep. – Anna Berry, 4th Reps. – Henry D., Nolan S. & Magdaline B. We will be looking for great things from you this year! S. C. meetings are one time per month, after school, with our first meeting on Wednesday, October 25th, 3:15 – 4:15 pm. Thanks to Mrs. Groose, who will once again be leading this group. You are awesome Mrs. G!

BASKETBALL/CHEER NEWS: We try very hard to meet all the needs of our students and their families.  This includes the areas of faith, academics, social/emotional and extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, we have not had enough student interest to form a basketball team for OLOS.  We are lucky that Immanuel Lutheran in Honey Creek has allowed our three 8th grade boys to join their team.  This will also affect our cheerleading squad.  Due to the fact that we will not have any teams from OLOS, we will not be sponsoring a cheer squad this year.

ROOM PARENT LIST: The room parent list is in today’s folder, which was compiled from the online registration packets. The room parent coordinator has been assigned to be the central contact for the classroom party – to coordinate games/refreshments and to make plans known to the classroom teacher. We have three classroom parties each year – Halloween, Christmas, & Valentines Day. Remember – VIRTUS training is REQUIRED to attend classroom parties.

HALLOWEEN PLANS: We invite all parents, parishioners, and community members to participate in our 4th annual Trunk or Treat, which will be on Halloween day, Tuesday, October 31st at 1:30 pm in the parking lot in front of the brick school building. The students will go on their annual “Halloween Walk”, trick or treating (in costume) through local businesses and offices, and then walk through the Trunk or Treat area. Please help spread the word to community members – all are invited to treat the kiddos! Please call the school office if you or someone you know would like to participate. When planning for costumes for your child, we ask that students not wear scary or gory costumes. No fake blood, devils, etc. Keep it light and fun!

CLEARANCE - DRESS CODE/POLO SHIRT FOR SALE (new, from Steph’s Tees, with school logo) - one left - adult Medium navy short sleeve. Contact Rosie if you would like to purchase the last one!

20 HOURS OF SERVICE: 20 hours of service to OLOS School & Parish is required of parents of all school children. Most parents do many more than 20 hours of service here, but the expectation is that you do at least 20 per household. Student service hours are not included in the 20; they have their own goals within the school and classroom. Parent service hours should be logged on your family portal. Once in your portal, on the left side choose “Family”, select the parent’s name at the top middle, click “add” in the righthand corner and log your hours. They will be verified periodically by the school office staff. For tracking purposes, it may be easier to log all service hours performed by either parent under the parent who normally checks the portal. Make sure to log your hours from the picnic! If you are not able to fulfill this obligation, you may pay the hours out @ $10/hour, for a total of $200.

SUNDAY “ALL SCHOOL” MASSES will be on the first Sunday of each month. Our first one will be on Sunday, November 5th. Mark your calendar now to make plans for your child to participate.

CONGRATULATIONS to Emery C. for winning the Friday Folder dress down drawing. Each week, one folder is drawn (from all returned by Wednesday, (with needed paperwork, if any) for a bonus dress down pass (or a treat for preschoolers). Make sure to return your folder each Monday!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Pray for some good, soaking rain!
