2020 FANTASY NIGHT 2020: Fantasy Night 2020 is set for Saturday, October 10, 2020. Congratulations to Alan Berendzen! Alan’s name was drawn from those who helped with Fantasy Night from our parish & community. He will receive a ticket to next year’s Fantasy Night event.

CALLING ALL MOMS! Muffins with Mom has been changed to Pancakes with Mom and will be on Wednesday, November 13th, beginning with 8:00 am Mass. We will then move over to the school for fun and fellowship. Make sure to bring your best smiles with you, because you will need them! If mom can’t make it, please invite a “sub” mom in for your child.

CHANGE TO CALENDAR: There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, November 11th due to faculty/staff benefits meeting at Tipton. Please read enclosed explanation from our interim superintendent, Ms. Fuemmeler.

HELP NEEDED! We are in need of a few volunteers to create the framework for the backdrop of our Christmas musical. It would just be putting some 2 X 4’s together. If you could help out with construction or lumber, please contact Mrs. Werdehausen as soon as possible. Thank you!

GHOSTY GRAMS! It’s not too late! We will be taking ghosty gram orders until October 28th. They are 50 cents each.

CLASSROOM PARENTS: We are counting on you to plan activities and refreshments for the Halloween parties. Thanks so much for your help in making our parties so much fun!

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES: Please – no scary or gory costumes for our Halloween Walk/parties. No ghosts, devils, witches, zombies, etc. Let’s keep our celebration lighthearted! We do not want to scare our little people! Students will begin changing for the parade at 1:15. Parents may arrive @ 1:15 to help.  

GUN RAFFLE WINNERS – Congratulations to Devin Hagerman and Russell Kever, winners of the September drawings, and to Carolyn Koetting and Steve Jaegers, winners of the October drawings.

2020 ALL SCHOOL RAFFLE: New prizes featured for those who do not hunt. Tickets are now available for sale for $50 each. Two winning tickets are drawn each month, for a total of 24 prizes awarded. If you would like to purchase or sell tickets, please contact Greg Koetting, Cindy McKenna or Josh Vandike. We do have individual tickets for sale at Mary’s Home Bank and the school office. For a list of prizes/explanation see the reverse of these notes.

LIGHTING OF THE CEMETERY THIS WEEK: OLOS students will be participating in the Litany of the Saints procession & the lighting of the cemetery again this year. The morning of Thursday, October 31st, the students, staff, & community will gather at 8:45 am to recite the Litany and place over 1000 lights on the graves. This activity is tied to a tradition, originating in Germany, where people lit candles and placed them on the graves of their loved ones, letting them burn throughout the night before All Saints, representing the “light of the holy souls”. All are invited to participate.
BOX TOPS/BEST CHOICE: Please turn in your Box Tops for Education & any Best Choice UPC’s you may have saved, as we will be making a submission this month for reimbursement. Thanks to Joan Doerhoff, for taking care of this program.

SPORTS PROCEEDS: Games 10/17/19 – Concessions $224.70, Gate $213

SANTA STORE: We will once again have the Santa Store, and it is scheduled for Friday, December 13th. If you or someone you know can help us out that day, please call or send a note to the office. We need 6-8 helpers. Also, if you have any new or like new items to donate to the store, please send to school. We appreciate any and all donations!

CHRISTMAS PARADE: The Mary’s Home Christmas Parade is planned for Friday, November 29th. We would love OLOS School to be represented. If you can help coordinate a float, please contact Mr. Akin.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Mark your calendar for the OLOSS Christmas program, scheduled for Thursday, December 5th at 6:30 pm. The alternate date will be Thursday, December 12th.

FANTASY NIGHT THANK YOU! Thanks so much to all who worked so hard to make this such a success. It is a big job, with work required over many days. We so appreciate all your efforts, all who purchased, and most especially all who helped out who do not have children in our school. It truly does take a village to raise a child!

FANTASY NIGHT WRAP UP: Please join us Monday evening at 6:15 to go over recommendations and to tie up loose ends. All interested please attend!

AWESOME JOB, DADS! We had a fantastic turnout for the pumpkin carving and prayer service on Wednesday, with some great jack-o-lanterns created! We so appreciate all our dads and dad “subs” who made the morning special for our students!

VOLLEYBALL NEWS: We are excited to report that the Lady Cougars won ALL THREE SETS last night against Kings Academy, with scores of 25-19, 25-12, & 24-23. Way to go, ladies!  The girls will finish up their season, by playing on Saturday in the Catholic Bowl at 9:00 am at Helias. We wish them the best of luck!!

CALLING ALL DADS! CHANGE OF PLANS/TIMES: We will be enjoying a morning of prayer and fellowship this Wednesday, October 16th, when we are inviting all dads (or dad “substitutes”) to join us. The prayer service will begin at 8:00 am in church, and students may sit with their dad. We will then move over to the cafeteria for refreshments and PUMPKIN CARVING/DECORATING! DADS - PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PUMPKIN CARVING KITS &/OR STICKERS/MARKERS. The time frame is a change from the original calendar, sent home in registration packets (previously was 6:30 until after Mass). We are looking forward to enjoying the morning with our dads!

SPIRIT WEEK:  This week - October 14th – October 18th will be spirit week, as all testing will be over with, and we will be hosting our final home volleyball games. Remember, though these are themed dress down days, all length & sleeve requirements are still enforced. Following are themes for each day:
Mon., Oct. 14:  Cartoon Character Monday – dress like a cartoon character or wear cartoon character T-shirt
Tues., Oct 15: Tie-Dye Tuesday – wear tie-dye or neon clothing
Wed., Oct 16: Dress Like Dad Wednesday – Dad & child/ren wear similar items
Thurs., Oct 17: Blue & Gold Thursday – step up our spirit wear for our last home game
Fri., Oct 18: Dress Down Friday

ACHIEVEMENT TESTING THIS WEEK! Achievement tests will be administered to Kindergarten through 8th Graders this upcoming week, primarily in the mornings. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and gets a good breakfast. We will offer a small snack each morning, but nothing replaces a good breakfast!

SWITCHING DRESS DOWN DAY: The dress down day this week will be on THURSDAY. Friday will be a regular dress code day. This is due to the fact that we would like our students in full dress code when KOMU is here to record our students reciting the pledge.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Sign-ups are enclosed in today’s folder. Please put your name beside your first & second choice. Every effort will be made to get you in at or near your requested time. Please return no later than Monday, Oct. 14th.

LOADS OF FUN/PLEASANT DREAMS DELIVERY: Loads for Fun and Pleasant Dreams fundraiser products will be delivered to school on Sunday, October 6th, around 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, items will be available for pickup in the gym parking lot (in back, double-door, pick-up line area). Please make sure all sellers pick up their items to be distributed at this time. If you cannot pick up the items on Sunday, please have them picked up no later than the end of the school day on Monday, October 7th. Thank you for supporting this rewarding and beneficial technology drive!

FANTASY NIGHT NEWS: WORK LISTS ARE IN TODAY’S FOLDER. Help is still needed in a couple locations. Please call Joan Doerhoff or Rosie if would be able to fill in. Keep on trying to sell those tickets! As of today, we have approximately 100 tickets left to sell in this final week. ALL TICKETS, sold on unsold, should be turned in to the office or bank, so that we may disburse those that are unsold when needed. Also, please help spread the word that we will open the doors to begin seating people at 5:30 pm (it says 6:00 on the flyer & tickets) in order to have everyone completely seated and ready to begin dinner at 6:30 pm promptly. Refreshments will only be available after 6:00 pm.

TEST READERS: We are in need of readers for achievement testing week, mornings only. This Monday, October 7th through Friday, October 11th. If you or someone you know could help out any or all of these days, please contact Rosie or Mr. Akin first thing Monday morning.

60 – 70 PUMPKINS for the morning with dad have been donated by the Mo. Dept of Corrections. Every student will get a pumpkin to take home, but those with several kids here at school may choose to only carve/decorate one. Ben Kempker hauled the pumpkins to OLOSS using his own truck, and actually took personal time off to make the delivery. If you see him around, please thank him. Of course, we will be sending a thank you to Ben & the Dept. of Corrections from the school children.

OLOSS “BEE” KIND CLUB: Students who were recognized for acts of kindness and generosity in September were: PK – Jace Engelbrecht – always sharing with his friends, K –Magdaline Bittle – helping others, 1st – Oliver Hagenhoff – always helping when he sees a need, without being asked, 2nd – Alayna Wood – helping another student clean up their desk, 3rd – Madelyn Doerhoff – always sharing at recess , 4th – Madisyn Suess – giving our class a positive attitude, 5th – Braden Schulte – helping another student with lunch, 6th – Mikayla Eickhoff – getting a sick classmates work together, 7th – Deanna Backes – always having a positive attitude, 8th – Aly Haeffner – always willing to help out.  Great job, students!

VOLLEYBALL NEWS: The girls lost their two games on Thursday evening, but the scores were close. Keep on trying, Lady Cougars!

HEALTH CHECKS: Thank you Marie Massman, Cindy McKenna, Sara Beck, & Hannah Evers, for helping out on Friday morning. They worked with the Miller County nurses on the screenings. We appreciate you!
