DRESS DOWN DAY: Due to the R. C. field trip on Friday, this upcoming Thursday, May 2 is a dress down day.

THE AMAZING RACE! For our Field Day, on May 16th, students will be participating in the Amazing Race in the morning. It promises to be great fun for all and we are excited about it! However, to put on these events for the kids, we do need our volunteers! If you are able to help out that morning, please send a note or call the office. So far, we have no volunteers.

VIRTUS: PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN CLASS COMING TO MARY’S HOME: There will be a Virtus session at OLOS Parish on Monday, April 29th at 6:00 pm. Please go online to diojeffcity.org & follow the links to “Safe Environment – Virtus registration”. All adults volunteering in ANY capacity in our school, whether it be classroom parties, activity days, field trips, coaching, driving MUST attend Virtus training. Basically, every parent in our school needs to be Virtus certified, as well as any relatives that help out.

ALL SCHOOL BILLS must be paid IN FULL for your child to receive their final grade cards/diplomas, as well as for the transfer of any academic records.

8TH GRADE PARENTS: The Freshman Orientation at Cole R-V is on Wednesday, May 1st, beginning at 5:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center.
BREAKFAST NEWS: Thanks so much to all who helped and/or supported the breakfast last weekend. We had so many positive comments, with a great turnout! Profits were $1243. The next breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2019.

QUARTERLY EARNINGS from Gerbes Community Rewards was $53.67, with 8 families participating. Thanks to all who participate in this program. More info. on this program can be found on the reverse. This is a great way to earn extra funds for our school – and so easy!

PROJECTOR DONATED! Thanks so much to the family and friends of Bernard Schulte, for the donation of the projector in his memory. This new projector is of newer technology and should alleviate problems we have been having with our current projectors. It is for use by the school and parish for events and funerals. It is being kept at the school office.

READING COUNTS: The Reading Counts field trip to Springfield is this upcoming Friday, May 3rd, 2019. The students will enjoy the day at the Discovery Center. The bus is scheduled to leave at 7:45 am and return no later than 5:45 pm. Check in at the Discovery Center is 9:45 am. The PK-4th grades will have presentations from 10:00 – 10:30 pm and the 5-8th will have presentations from 10:45 – 11:30 am. Students will eat in shifts – PK-4 from 10:45 to 11:15 & 5-8 from 11:30 to 12:00. There is a gift shop, which also sells healthy snacks & drinks (crackers, fruit drinks, etc.). Students who choose to do so, for an extra $3, may ride the “Miller Exhibit – Antigravity Highwire Bike”. Students must be able to reach the pedals to do this, and this cost would be paid onsite by the parent/student. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR THEIR READING COUNTS SHIRT!

SIGN UP FOR GERBES COMMUNITY REWARDS:  OLOS is enrolled in the Gerbes “Community Rewards” program. This program offers money back to our school, based on enrolled customer’s spending. It is a really easy process. You just tie your Gerbes shopper’s card to our school account. If you don’t have a Gerbes shopper’s card, it takes less than a minute to get one at the store and also online. All the information needed to complete this process is online. @ www.gerbes.com/communityrewards. Our school code is 48253. It takes just a couple minutes so get all your family and friends to register as well! The school will receive quarterly payments in cash form. We will update you as we receive those funds. PROGRESS REPORTS: Today in this folder you will find your child’s midterm report or a sign-off sheet. Students in Grades K-2 receive a mid-term report and students’ reports in Grades 3-8 are to be viewed online at www.optionc.com, with our school code – 8085 – and your individual username and password. Please sign & return the enclosed report/form on Monday. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.

ACHIEVEMENT TEST home reports are in today’s folder. Grades 3-8 took the Iowa Achievement test in October 2018. Along with this, Grades 3, 5, 7 (every other year) took the Cognitive Abilities Test. The Achievement test measures actual achievement in three core subject areas – Reading, Math, & Social Science/Science. The CogAT measures development of verbal, mathematical, and spatial reasoning abilities. For more information on your child’s CogAT score & profile, directions are given below the “Note” box on the form so that you can access helpful information.

REGISTRATION PACKETS for the 2019-20 school year were recently sent home. Please complete & return these as soon as possible – the sooner the better! If your completed packet is returned by Wednesday, April 24 (when we come back from Easter break), your child will receive a bonus dress down pass (or a sweet treat for preschoolers). PACKETS MUST BE SENT BACK, COMPLETED BY APRIL 30TH FOR FULL REGISTRATION OF YOUR CHILD/REN.

IF YOUR CHILD HAS REACHED 200 POINTS IN THE READING COUNTS PROGRAM, PLEASE LOOK FOR THEIR FIELD TRIP FORM IN THE TODAY’S FOLDER. Please fill out completely and return on Wednesday. If your child reaches the deadline of April 24th, their forms will be sent home on the 24th or 25th through the classroom teacher. APRIL GUN RAFFLE WINNERS! Congratulations to the two winners this month. They are Michael Solanski, who won the Winchester SXP Field Compact (12 or 20 gauge) and Drew Geritz, who won the Mossberg 935 Magnum Black.

SKETCH DAY: Congratulations to the 7th & 8th graders for a job well done. They did a great job on their sketches and we are proud of them! Their artwork is on display in the school cafeteria.

SCHOOL/PARISH BREAKFAST – COME ONE, COME ALL! All are invited to support this YUMMY fundraiser this Sunday. We are serving a great breakfast – from 8:00 – 12:00 noon. More help is still needed in the kitchen. If you figure out that you have the time to help on Sunday morning, just show up and join in!

We are asking that you please send in one dozen candy filled eggs to your child’s classroom (no peanut butter, nothing that melts easily) This would be for grades PK-6th. Also, you may remember the 7/8th graders with a treat, since they will be hiding the eggs for everyone else, and won’t have a hunt of their own!

PLEASE NOTE: We have added this Wed., 4/17, as a DRESS DOWN IN PASTELS DAY in anticipation of Easter.

BOOM TOWN: This Monday, 4/15, the 3rd & 4th graders will be participating in Boom Town, after studying economics in social studies. They do this every year, and it is enjoyed by all students during their special class time. We are looking forward to it!

WE ARE SO PROUD of our Spelling Bee competitors for a job well done! These students represented our school so very well and many went through several rounds in the competition. We thank the parents for driving, for pizza delivery, and most of all, many thanks to Mrs. Haeffner, for getting the students ready for this event with all of the after-school practices. We definitely appreciate her time and dedication!

ATTENTION 8TH GRADE PARENTS: Jess Adrian from Cole R-V will visit with our 8th graders this Friday, April 12th at 8:00 am. Students will begin to look at schedules. It is very helpful if at least one parent attends this meeting with their child, if at all possible. The Freshman Orientation at Cole R-V is on Monday, May 1st, beginning at 5:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center.

CHANGE FOR BREAKFAST PLANNING MEETING! The meeting has been changed from Monday to Tuesday, April 9th at 5:45 pm in the school cafeteria.

GRILL RAFFLE: Along with the school/parish breakfast next weekend, there will be a raffle for a pellet grill (displayed at M. H. Bank), Enclosed, you will find a flyer & 5 tickets. Tickets are $5 each. Please sell any and/or all of these if you are able. Please turn in no later than next Friday, April 12th. Thank you!

HOME & SCHOOL MEETING is this TUESDAY, APRIL 9TH AT 6:45 PM. This will be the final H & S mtg. for the 2018-19 school year. All parents please plan on attending. Bonus dress down passes will be given to all families attending. Hope to see you there!
