Thur – School Spirit Dress Down Day

Fri -   NO SCHOOL – Picnic Prep.

STEWARDSHIP/TITHING: The Parish Council has asked that all stewardship and tithing records be up to date for all parishioners, including our school families. If your record needs updated you will find an envelope with these forms in today’s folder. Please fill out and return to school office or drop in the collection basket at Mass. Thank you!

HANDBOOK: The Parent/Student Handbook is in the process of being updated. Our goal is to have it revised and available by Thursday, when we dismiss for picnic prep. Be watching for the sign-off, which will be enclosed in the family folder once those revisions are made. Thank you for your patience.

SCHOOL SPIRIT DRESS DOWN DAY: Thursday is our first school spirit day. Generally, we have one spirit day each month. When ballgames begin, we try to schedule them around home games. Students may ONLY dress down if they wear the school sponsored spirit shirt (may be new or old logo), sold by Steph Tees, and students do not have to participate. If you don’t have spirit wear, we do have several pre-worn shirts on our rack in the cafeteria, available for free. For future needs, you may want to order. Forms are available on our website or from the school office.

HOME & SCHOOL MEETINGS SET: Please mark your calendar and plan on attending. We rely on ALL school families to help plan, coordinate, and support our teachers and school, and would like all parents to be active in this organization. We will begin each meeting with a potluck dinner. Your child/ren will receive a bonus dress down pass for your attendance!

GRANDPARENTS DAY/BOOK FAIR WEEK!!! Grandparents’ Day celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14th, beginning with the 8:00 am Mass, and then moving over to the parish center (gym) for additional activities. This will also be the week of the Scholastic Book Fair, so it will be open as well for shopping with grandparents. Please be sending in those pictures! (See flyer enclosed) Make sure to get in contact with your grandparents now so that they can plan on enjoying the morning with us!

VISITS WITH FATHER ALEX! Father Alex will be visiting with our students in their classrooms. These dates are noted on the calendar you are receiving today, with K/1 scheduled for October We are so thrilled to have Father join us in our new school year!

20 HOURS OF SERVICE: New for this school year is the required 20 hours of service to OLOS parish/school for parents of all school children. Most parents do many more than 20 hours of service here, but the expectation is that you do at least 20 per household. Student service hours are not included in the 20; they have their own goals within the school and classroom. Parent service hours should be logged on your family portal. Once in your portal, on the left side choose “Family”, select the parent’s name at the top middle, click “add” in the righthand corner and log your hours. They will be verified periodically by the school office staff. For tracking purposes, it may be easier to log all service hours performed by either parent under the parent who normally checks the portal. Make sure to log events like the upcoming picnic (many of you will meet your 20 hours immediately with this event!!), coaching, fundraisers, helping at school or in the parish in any way. If you choose not to fulfill this obligation, you may pay the hours out @ $10/hour, for a total of $200.

NEW ALL SCHOOL MASS SCHEDULE: Beginning in September, Mass schedules will be as follows:

7/8 Ministry          1st Wednesday of month…

5/6 Ministry          2nd Wednesday

4th Ministry            3rd Wednesday

2/3 Ministry          4th Wednesday

K/1 Ministry           5th Wednesday

If we are out on a Wednesday, then that class will be skipped. This schedule will allow for parents and teachers to better plan ahead. K/1 will minister two months – November & March (the two 5th Wednesdays). You are always welcomed and encouraged to attend Mass on Wednesdays, especially if your child’s class is involved with the ministry.

DEADLINE FOR FRIDAY NOTES: Thursdays, 9:00 am. If you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items, send them in, or email to rbeck@olosschool.org. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper.  Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s),and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions and dosage cups/spoons. These will be locked up in the office. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring medications.

DRESS DOWN DAYS/DRESS CODE CLARIFICATION: Every Friday is a dress down day for students. We just want to remind everyone that dress down days are a privilege. Please adhere to all length and sleeve requirements. This is important all school days. On Wednesdays (Mass days) students should always be in dress code. Dress down passes are never allowed on Mass days. We always want to look our best and present a unified front to our community (that is what was meant by “dress up”)! Also on Wednesdays, make sure your child wears sneakers/tennis shoes to school. Wednesdays are PE days, so it is even more important that your child has on good, sturdy footwear.

CARTRIDGES: We are no longer collecting used printer/toner cartridges. In the past, we have received significant funds for these products. However, recent returns have been substantially less. We thank all who have supported our past collection efforts so very much!

SUN BUTTER/LUNCH ALTERNATIVE: Students may choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée if they have a note from home. They must bring a note on the day that the substitution is desired and must present it to the classroom teacher first thing in the morning. Please note that the “main entrée” is the protein item. For example, if our meal is vegetable soup with grilled cheese & string cheese, the substitution would be for the cheese sandwich & string cheese, not for the vegetable soup.

REMINDER TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS BRINGING LUNCHES FROM HOME:  Please see that your child’s lunch has everything they need for their meal – drinks, plates, utensils, condiments, napkins. The lunch program cannot support the supply of these items. Thanks to families who donated some supplies – plates, cups, etc.

TREATS FOR CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS: Store bought treats preferred.

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 22-23 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by Tuesday, August 30, 2022, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family. Congratulations Magdaline & Jacob B. for being our first winners!

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY: Sign up now for the Financial Peace University Course to learn how God has designed stewardship to be in all parts of our lives.
