REGISTRATION PACKETS FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR ARE NOW DUE. IF YOU HAVEN’T RETURNED THEM BY MONDAY, APRIL 28TH, WE WILL CONTACT YOU.

SOCCER/MOVE NIGHT:  Mrs. Werdehausen will be hosting a soccer & movie night this Monday, April 28th, as an end-of-year school event. She will be asking the older students to help out.  We will play soccer from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, and then watch a movie (outdoors – weather permitting) from 7:00 to approximately 8:30 pm. Families are asked to provide their own snacks and drinks for this event. If it rains, we will move into the gym. Hope to see you there!

HOME & SCHOOL MEETING & POTLUCK: We will be enjoying our last H & S meeting on Tuesday, April 29th with a carry in potluck dinner. We will begin at 6:30 pm. All attending will receive a bonus dress down pass for their child/ren. Hope to see you all there!

PENNIES FOR PATIENTS:  OLOS students are currently involved in the Pennies for Patients campaign. This is intended to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please send in with your child any spare change or donation you are able to make. This campaign will extend through May 9th.

READING COUNTS: Today you will find the Reading Counts trip packet if your child/ren qualified for the trip. Please read carefully and fill out completely! Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation!

FINAL FEES: ALL SCHOOL FEES ARE NOW DUE. GRADE CARDS/8th GRADE DIPLOMAS WILL BE HELD FOR PAYMENT OF FEES. If you owe any fees, you can expect a notice in next week’s folder.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD! We congratulate Austin & Ethin Burnett on the arrival of new baby sister, Brooklin Dawn. Brooklin was born last week and weighed 6 lb. 9 oz. at birth. We also congratulate proud parents, Ashley & Jim.

MORE GARDENING HELP NEEDED:  Each year we ask families to volunteer to do weekly watering and weeding around the two school buildings. If we get enough, most families would only have to take one week. Please send a note/email/call to the office with your offer to help out with this – no green thumb needed! So far we have offers from Lynn Morgan, Greg & Tammy Love & Bryan & Stacey Evers.

EXTENDED CARE SERVICES (before and after school) will be available on May 15th, the final day of school.

GUIDELINES FOR GRADUATION DRESS: Boys – dress pants, collared shirt, dress shoes, tie is optional; Girls – dresses, no more than 2 inches above the knee, no spaghetti straps showing (may wear shawl to cover). Students will be wearing cap/gown for graduation and awards ceremony.

GRADUATION PICTURE BOARDS: Please begin collecting pictures for your boards (which will be supplied by the school).

QUILT RAFFLE:  Alma Koetting donated a quilt to use as a fundraiser for the school wherever it is most needed. If you would like to buy raffle tickets or want to sell any, please contact the office and we will send you some booklets. They are $1 each or 6 for $5. This is an OPTIONAL fundraiser. The quilt is queen sized and the colors are blue & rose. It is BEAUTIFUL!

SODA TABS: The Student Council is collecting soda tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Please begin saving these for this most worthy cause. You may send them into the office anytime. Thank you!

SAVE, SAVE, SAVE. Save any used print cartridges, laser or jet, fax cartridges, etc, and send them in to school or leave in the church vestibule in the box so marked.
-Save those “Box Tops” found on many, many groceries & other misc. items – worth 10 cents each.

-We receive premiums from Target if you choose OLOS School as the designated school on your Target RED credit card. Parents, teachers, and other school supporters use their REDcard credit card or Target check card, and Target will donate 1% of their purchases back to the designated school. REGISTRATION PACKETS FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR ARE NOW DUE. PLEASE TURN THEM IN BY THIS UPCOMING TUESDAY, APRIL 22ND. ALL RETURNING BY APRIL 22 WILL GET A BONUS DRESS DOWN PASS FOR EACH CHILD IN THE FAMILY.

CLASSROOM ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR; Combined classrooms: 1st/2nd (Groose), 3rd/4th (Haeffner), 5th/6th (Kempker), 7th/8th (Vandike), with Kindergarten (Eickhoff) and Preschool (Massman) as separate classrooms.

HEADS UP 8TH GRADE PARENTS! Freshman Orientation at Cole R-V has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 22nd @ 5:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center.

EASTER EGG HUNT: If you haven’t already done so, please send in your bag of candy for the hunts on Tuesday. Thanks so much!

HIGH FIVES to the three students nominated and accepted into the Aquinas Academy this summer. We recognize Cody Schulte, Andrew Schulte, and Cameron Haeffner for their accomplishments. Nomination into this Academy is based on achievement test scores, grades, Christian conduct, maturity, and service. We are very proud of all three of these boys!

MORE HIGH FIVES to the students participating in the Diocesan Speech Meet last weekend. Rachel Buechter, Kalie Massman, and Dakota Graham all received BLUE RIBBONS! Congratulations, girls!

READING COUNTS FIELD TRIP UPDATE: If your child will be wearing a bikini, they will need to wear a T-shirt over it for the entire day at the water park. More information on field trip further in the notes.

EXTENDED CARE SERVICES (before and after school) will be available on May 15th, the final day of school.

If your child reaches 200 points by April 25th, he/she qualifies to attend the Reading Counts field trip, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 8th at Tan-Tar-A Waterpark. The Fundraising Committee designated profits from the two breakfasts this year to go towards this trip. We are proud to say that with the approximately $1575 made from these two events, the cost for the bus (approx. $400), and the majority of the ticket costs will be covered. Parents will probably be expected to pay $5-6 per child (full price of tickets is $17). Parents are welcome to attend and gain entrance for $5, or are charged $17 if swimming. No siblings are allowed on this trip. Additionally, for every 25 points over 200, your child gets a ticket, to be placed in a drawing for a prize. If your child does not qualify to attend the trip, he/she will stay at school as a normal day of school and will be held responsible for all assignments.

RICE BOWL: Rice Bowls can be turned in to the office any time this week or can be taken directly to the church through Holy Week and Easter. Thank you so much to all who participated.

REGISTRATION PACKETS: the 2014-15 school year registration packets were sent out a couple of weeks ago. Please note – there are a few minor changes with fees (refer to fee summary sheet). Please return these completed forms as soon as possible, but they must be returned by the Tuesday after Easter, April 22nd.

SELF-STUDY UPDATE: This week we welcomed the visiting team of principals, teachers, and acting superintendent to Our Lady of the Snows School. On Tuesday evening the team presented their evaluation and a summary of recommendations to be implemented in the next five years, in a process in which we continually strive to improve our school. Over the next weeks and months these recommendations will be more closely looked at and a plan of action will be constructed. We are proud of OLOS School and received high praise from the team. Thanks to all of you who helped with the self-study in any way. Most especially, thank YOU for entrusting your children to OLOS School. The team made special remarks on the exceptional students, their behavior, and their interactions with one another and their teachers and staff. We are proud of all of them!

OPTION C EMAIL ALERTS: In future alerts/messages you will notice that the emails come from the following address: OLOS8055@optioncalert.com, which is different from what you had seen in previous messages.

8TH GRADE PARENTS:  We have been receiving questions from several students regarding the Freshman Orientation and class scheduling for Cole
R-5.  We have been in contact with them and, as of yet, there have been no dates established. We will let you know when we know.

EASTER EGG HUNT: We are once again planning our annual Easter egg hunt. The hunt will be for students in PK through 5th grades on the afternoon of Tuesday, Apirl 22nd (after Easter). We are asking each family in PK-5th to bring in one bag of candy (no chocolate because it melts in the sun). No plastic eggs are necessary; we have accumulated plenty. If you wish, you may also send in extra treats for students in 8th grade, who will be graciously filling and “hiding” the eggs. 6th & 7th grades are having a scavenger hunt. You may go ahead and send the candy into the office at any time. Thank you!

SELF STUDY: We are excited to welcome the self-study visiting team to OLOS School this Sunday! This group of principals, teachers, and superintendents will be with us through Tuesday. This will be a very busy three days of work and study. The summation will be the fried chicken dinner on Tuesday, April 8th, at 5:30 (by RSVP only), with the report following.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS: The school children will be attending Stations of the Cross every Friday afternoon at 2:15. If you or a grandparent will be taking your child after the Stations, please send a note to the classroom teacher so that students can bring their book bag to church with them.

So as of now, the last day of school will be Thursday, May 15th, dismissing at 12:00 noon. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 am on May 15th. Lunch and extended care will be offered.

RICE BOWL: Hopefully, you are using the Catholic Relief Services “Operation Rice Bowl” kit enclosed in last week’s folder. Make a Lenten Plan – PRAY – set aside time for prayer and reflections, FAST – consider what you will give up for Lent, GIVE – set a goal for you CRS Rice Bowl offering.  All offerings will be collected after Lent and forwarded to CRS.
