LENT BEGINS THIS WEEK! On Wednesday,
March 6th, ALL SCHOOL STAFF will be attending Mass that morning. If
you are running late in bringing your children to school (7:50 am or after),
please bring them directly to church. All school doors will be locked.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Mr. Vandike will
be leading the Stations at 2:15 pm every Friday that we are in session during
Lent. All are welcome!
ENROLLMENT FORMS FOR THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR were in last week’s folder. Please fill these out and return as soon
as possible, as we place orders and make staffing decisions based on your response.
If you know of any families who may have an interest in sending their child to
OLOS School, please encourage them to contact the school office, or give us
their contact information so that we may reach out to them. Families of all
preschool and kindergarten age children listed in the parish baptismal records
should be receiving information on enrollment through the mail. PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN PARENTS – Mark
your calendar for Tuesday, March 12, when we will have the Preschool &
Kindergarten Informational meetings, from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. This is a
time to meet the teachers, orient your child to the classroom, and schedule
Kindergarten testing. These meetings will take place in the respective classrooms.
If you need more information, please don’t hesitate to call.
SCIENCE FAIR: The Science Fair for 5th through 8 grades was today, Friday,
March 1st. We will update you on winners in next week’s notes. The
winners in each category – Life, Physical, & Earth Science – will go on to
the Diocesan fair in Taos this next Friday, March 8th.
READING COUNTS: The Reading Counts field trip to Springfield is set
for Friday, May 3rd, 2019. The students will enjoy the day at the
Discovery Center. MORE NEWS….Due to the Reading
Counts program being down for half of the school year, each student will receive 25 points toward their goal. Reading
Counts deadline is Wednesday April, 24th. Field trip forms will go home on
April 17th with any student who has already met their 200 point goal. The
remainder of the field trip forms will home on April 25th with students who
reached their goal between the 17th and 24th.
DUE TO THE SNOWDAY ON THURSDAY, FEB. 20th, SCHOOL WILL BE IN
SESSION ON MONDAY, MARCH 18, 2019.
BABY SHOWER FOR BIRTHRIGHT: In memory
of Judy Wieberg, OLOS School & Mrs. Groose is sponsoring a baby shower,
with gifts to be donated to Birthright. It will be on Wednesday, March 13th.
We will have Mass that morning, and then after that, we will come over to the
gym and enjoy some fun & games, along with refreshments. Items can be new
or gently used. Monetary gifts are much appreciated as well. Birthright is an organization
that was very close to Judy’s heart, and we would like to honor her with full
participation by school families and the entire parish community. All are
invited!
BEST CHOICE & BOX TOPS: It is
time for submission! Please send in any that you may have collected. Thank you
for clipping and saving!
RICE BOWL: Please use it as a tool in your household to
enhance your family Lenten experience. There is a Lenten calendar inside that
may be used to help your family pray. You may return the Rice Bowls to the
vestibule or school office after Easter, with any money that you may have
saved.
ATTENTION 7TH GRADE PARENTS: Traditionally, the 8th grade graduation reception is
planned & hosted by the parents of the 7th graders. We are in
need of one parent to be in charge of the planning and organization of the
evening, with all parents asked to help out. Graduation is set for Saturday, May 11th at the 6:30 pm
Mass, with the reception afterwards in the gym. Please let Rosie know if
you would be able to be the coordinator.
ABSENCES ON THURSDAY, 2/28: Unless due
to illness, absences/tardies on 2/28/19 will not be permanently recorded, due
to the inclement weather coming in at start time.
GUN RAFFLE: 2019 OLOS Gun Raffle
tickets are available for purchase at the school office or Mary’s Home Bank. If
you need tickets to sell, you may also contact Josh Vandike, Greg Koetting, or
Jay Harms.
WINE FOR SALE: We have a few bottles of
Shawnee Bluff wine leftover from the Italian Feast. The price has been lowered
to $12/bottle (from $15). We have 1 bottle of sweet white – “Sweet Speakeasy”,
and 4 bottles of sweet red – “I’m a Sweetie Too”. Contact Rosie in the office
if you would like to purchase any.
OLOSS “BEE” KIND CLUB: Students who were
recognized for acts of kindness and generosity on Feb. 22 were: PK –Charlotte
Groose – getting papers together for a friend, K – Brena Groose – sharing toys at recess, 1st – Alayna Wood – helping others
with their worksheets 2nd – Romie Groose – sharing her toys at
recess, 3rd – Clarice WhittLe – letting someone else have a turn instead of
herself, 4th – Gracie Silvey – being such a great helper, 5th – Ben Goetz – picking up things for his
teacher, 6th –Garet Wood – supplying his
classmates with paper, 7th –Aliyah
Talledo – filling out another student’s plan book when he was sick, 8th – Matthew Beck – sharing during
religion class and always turning on the overhead. All acts of kindness “bees”
are displayed in the school cafeteria. (Note – the first student listed in each
grade is kindness noted by the classroom teacher. If any additional are listed,
they have been noted by other members of the staff.) Great job, students!
