and return. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate
to contact the classroom teacher.
ATTENTION 8TH GRADE PARENTS: Jess Adrian from Cole R-V will visit with our 8th
graders on Friday, April 12th at 8:00 am. Students will begin to
look at schedules. It is very helpful if at least one parent attends this
meeting with their child, if at all possible. The Freshman Orientation at Cole
R-V is on Monday, April 1st, beginning at 5:30 pm in the Performing
Arts Center.
FUNDRAISING BREAKFAST: Please
find enclosed the work sign-up list. Please help out if at all possible.
Remember that it takes ALL school families to make our fundraisers a success.
Please return the sign-up on MONDAY.
BREAKFAST PLANNING MEETING – Monday,
April 8th at 5:45 pm in the school cafeteria.
HOME & SCHOOL MEETING – Tuesday,
April 9th at 6:45 pm.
SILENT FRIDAY LUNCH: OLOS School students and staff have been
participating in our school’s Lenten tradition of silent lunches on Fridays. This
is very hard for some of us (including the adults!) but we offer it up in
prayer.
PLAY AT HONEYCREEK: We have received an invitation for our K-8th
school children to attend a Spring Musical at Immanuel Lutheran, Honeycreek, on
Thursday, April 4th at 1:00. The title of the musical is Down by the
Creek Bank. The students in the play are going camping at Honey Creek! They
are celebrating Immanuel's 150 anniversary with songs and stories. We would
love to send students to watch. Please let us know if you would be able to
drive and how many you can haul by filling out enclosed form. In the past we
have had to pass up opportunities because we haven’t had placement for a
handful of students, and that is a shame. If we get enough for any classroom,
we will send students.
IMPOMPTU DRILLS: OLOS School will be having several emergency drills
throughout the next weeks. To avoid undue anxiety, please take an opportunity
to discuss these with your children, especially the younger ones. We have tornado,
fire, earthquake, and intruder/lockdown drills.
LOOKING AHEAD TO EASTER: We will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Wednesday,
April 17th, before we break for the Holy Days and Easter. We are asking
that you please send in one dozen candy filled eggs to your child’s
classroom (no peanut butter, nothing that melts easily) This would be for
grades PK-6th. Please do not send these in until the week of April
15th. Also, you may remember
the 7/8th graders with a treat, since they will be hiding the eggs
for everyone else, and won’t have a hunt of their own!
BABY CHICKS! During the first couple weeks of April the PK, 2, 3, 4, 5-8 Science
classes will get to witness firsthand the hatching & care of baby chicks.
This program is a great hit with our students and is offered yearly through the
Miller Co. Extension Office.
NEW LOGO? If anyone has good ideas/artwork that we could use for a new logo for our
spirit shirts, please contact Rosie in the office. We have had the
current logo for several years, and Tammy was wondering if we would want to
change it. If you have any good ideas, please let us know.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Mr. Vandike will
be leading the Stations at 2:15 pm every Friday that we are in session during
Lent. All are welcome!
READING COUNTS: The Reading Counts field trip to Springfield is set
for Friday, May 3rd, 2019. The students will enjoy the day at the
Discovery Center. Due to the Reading Counts program being down for
half of the school year, each student
will receive 25 points toward their goal. Reading Counts deadline is
Wednesday April, 24th. Field trip forms will go home on April 17th with any
student who has already met their 200 point goal. The remainder of the field
trip forms will go home on April 25th with students who reached their goal
between the 17th and 24th.
RICE BOWL: Please use it as a tool in your household to
enhance your family Lenten experience. There is a Lenten calendar inside that
may be used to help your family pray. You may return the Rice Bowls to the
vestibule or school office after Easter, with any money that you may have
saved.
ATTENTION 7TH GRADE PARENTS: Traditionally, the 8th grade graduation reception is
planned & hosted by the parents of the 7th graders. Kathleen
Haeffner, 7th grade parent, has volunteered to coordinate this. She
will be in contact with all 7th grade parents in the near future. Graduation is set for Saturday, May 11th
at the 6:30 pm Mass, with the reception afterwards in the gym.
