OLOS School provides a quality education & develops the whole person

in a faith-filled Catholic environment.

Monday          NO SCHOOL  -  Labor Day holiday – picnic clean up
Tuesday         Volleyball Practice – 5:30 – 7:00 pm,
Fantasy Night mtg – 6:00 pm
Wednesday
Thursday        All School Mass (5th grade ministry)
JV Volleyball @ Taos – 8:00 pm (vs. St. Francis, White)
 Friday            September Dress Down Day

There will be a Fantasy Night planning meeting on Tuesday evening, September 4th, at 6:00 pm. All are encouraged and welcomed to attend.

OLOS School Health Screenings will be Monday, Sept. 10th. The Miller County nurses will be reviewing our immunization records that day. That means that if you received notice that your child needs proof of immunizations last week, you will need to provide that by Monday. If you have not provided records by then, your child’s name will be flagged to report to the Mo. Dept of Health.

Needed for Lunchroom – Microwaves. Please contact someone in the office if you have one (new or used) to donate.

Thanks so much to Lynn Morgan, for the donation of teacher supplies – stickers, workbooks, beanie babies, etc. We appreciate it!

VOLLEYBALL PARENTS:  If girls get dropped of early for volleyball practice, they will go to extended care and be charged the $5 drop in fee for it. PRACTICE DOES NOT BEGIN UNTIL 5:30 PM.

PRESCHOOL PARENTS:  Unless authorized through Marie, no switching of days is allowed for part-time preschoolers. The only exceptions would be for classroom parties and field trips.

Lunches: Lunch fees this year are $37/month for 9 months (or $8/month, reduced), flat rate, regardless if your child eats lunch or not (due to absences or the occasional sack lunch). This puts the daily lunch fees at approximately $1.91 per day. If you elected to opt out of lunches, your child may not eat any school lunches throughout the year. ALL LUNCH FEES MUST BE PAID THROUGH THE SCHOOL, NOT THE PARISH. Lunch fees are not legitimate tax deductions. Lunches are being billed on the middle of each month (generally the 15th of each month), August through April. This is a change from last year, when lunches were billed at the end of each month. If a child wants a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée, he/she should bring a note from the parent on EACH DAY that this is desired.

The Home & School and School Advisory Board meetings scheduled for the third Thursday in September are being rescheduled. Please mark those meetings off the enclosed calendar. We will let you know when we get these rescheduled.  The Home & School will be in need of new officers – we know for sure we will need a new treasurer. Please be thinking and praying about this opportunity to serve with your time and talent.

Volleyball Practices – every Monday and Tuesday evenings, 5:30 – 7:00 pm.

MORNING DROP OFF:  This is a reminder that students (except extended care students) are to be dropped off after 7:25 am in the morning. Classes begin at 7:45 am. All students dropped off before 7:25 am will be charged for extended care – a $5 fee.
GRANDPARENTS DAY:  Tuesday, September 11th at 2:00 pm. We are asking each family to send in a pie on Monday, Sept. 10th. We will be honoring our grandparents that afternoon and also the 2,977 people killed in the 9/11 attack eleven years ago. All students and grandparents are asked to dress in red/white/blue to commemorate Patriot Day.

PRESCHOOL, KINDERGARTEN & FIRST GRADE FIELD TRIP to FISCHER FARM (across the river) will be on
October 19th, from 9:00 -10:30 am. The trip includes a maze with hay bales, a hayride, and the farm animals. The students will also all receive a big pumpkin, a small pumpkin & a gourd. More details will be coming out soon regarding this trip, but mark your calendar now if you are interested in going along. Cost for adults will be $6 for all, or $1 for hayride only. Students will need Wal-Mart bags that day, so if you have any extra, please send them to school anytime. Thanks!

VAN SERVICE:  The van is running two routes in the mornings and the evenings. Therefore, we have no additional room for friends. ONLY THOSE PAYING FOR VAN SERVICE CAN RIDE THE VAN. Please remember to take this into account if your child invites friends over so that you may make other arrangements for transportation. Please use common courtesy and call Jim in the mornings if your child is not riding the bus. This may avoid a trip out of the way or a long wait, which throws others late. Jim’s numbers are: 498-3595 before 6:10 am, and 694-2214 after 6:10 am. Please write these numbers down now so that you have them when you need them.  Thank you for your consideration.

SUBS NEEDED AT OLOS SCHOOL: 60 college hours required. Please think of anyone you know who might be interested and let them know about this opportunity. We have very limited substitute help. Please contact Mrs. Trachsel for more information.

Wednesday
Thursday        All School Mass (6th grade ministry)
Friday             SCHOOL DISMISSES @ 12:00 NOON – Lunch is served
School Spirit Day – may dress down if wearing official “school spirit” shirts

We all had a wonderful beginning to the 2012-13 school year, making it through our first full week of school! It is so nice to see all those great SMILES on the students’ faces! Let us all remember to pray for each other – the students, families, and staff – for a successful and productive year in forming a faith-filled future for our children.

If you noticed the new Reading Counts shirt hanging in the hallway during Open House, then you will know what an awesome job Tammy Love did on making these. They are neon orange, with a sunshine face on the front, and the logo says, “Reading Makes us Brighter at OLOS School”. We thank Tammy so much – she always does wonderful work! Regarding the R. C. shirts: When your child reaches the 75 point goal, they will receive their shirt (provided that the shirt has been paid for), and will be able to wear it any school day in lieu of the regular dress code type collared shirt. All students earning the 200 point end of year R. C. field trip will then have their shirt to wear for that event. If your child’s shirt has not been paid for, you will find notice in today’s folder.

Needed for Lunchroom – Microwaves. Please contact someone in the office if you have one (new or used) to donate. A special thank you to Ben & Julie Kempker (Olivia – K), who donated a new microwave to the lunch room. We appreciate it very much!!!

SUBS NEEDED AT OLOS SCHOOL: 60 college hours required. Please think of anyone you know who might be interested and let them know about this opportunity. We have very limited substitute help. Please contact Mrs. Trachsel for more information.

Deadline for Friday note information is Thursdays, 9:00 am. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper (the school cannot afford to supply paper for outside events). Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy. It is not appropriate for the school to send out extraneous information that can be handled other ways. Also, if you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items up, send them in, or email them to rosie@radiowire.net (call to let me know you have emailed please). I don’t mind doing a little editing and rewording, but the bulk of the item should be outlined with details.

Reminder to parents: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s), and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring
medications.

HOMEWORK can only be picked up between 3:00 and 3:15 each day for students who have been absent. Requests can be made to send work home with siblings or others. Please specifically request homework when calling in your child’s absence if you so prefer. Some parents prefer to not have the homework, especially if their child is still feeling unwell.

SAVE, SAVE, SAVE.
·         Save any used print cartridges, laser or jet, fax cartridges, etc, and send them in to school or leave in the church vestibule in the box so marked.
·         Save those “Box Tops” found on many, many groceries & other misc. items – worth 10 cents each. Send to office.
·         Save Best Choice UPC’s (not the label). Send to office.
·         We receive premiums from Target if you choose OLOS School as the designated school on your Target RED credit card. Parents, teachers, and other school supporters use their REDcard credit card or Target check card, and Target will donate 1% of their purchases back to the designated school. To participate, all you need is a REDcard to enroll. Enroll at Target.com/tcoe or 1.800.316.6142.

You will receive a card and you can present it every time you shop. A percentage of the purchase will be contributed back to OLOS School.

This folder comes from the office and always contains highly important information. There will be times that you will need to fill out one or more forms and return. This is the BEST way to stay informed about all that is going on in the school and to make payments. Your involvement and awareness is crucial to your child’s success at OLOS. We ask that you make every effort to review all enclosed materials, fill out any needed paperwork, and return to school each Monday morning. Your child will hand them to the classroom teacher, who will then forward to the office. Thanks so much for your cooperation and help!

Due to Federal funding cuts, OLOS School is not receiving enough entitlement monies to fund after school tutoring. There will be NO AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING THIS YEAR. Mrs. Barnicle will be here in the very near future to provide services during the school day to those students who qualify. Additionally, students in the 7th and 8th grades no longer qualify for tutoring services offered by Title 1/Mrs. Barnicle. Due to the fact that Eugene does not offer title services to their 7th/8th grades, we are not allowed to do so either.

FREE & RECUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS ARE IN TODAY’S FOLDER. PLEASE FILL THESE OUT AND RETURN TO SCHOOL IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. WE HIGHLY URGE YOU TO FILL THESE OUT, EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT SURE YOU QUALIFY BECAUSE THE SCHOOL DIRECTLY BENEFITS FROM ALL STUDENTS RECEIVING FREE OR REDUCED LUNCHES.

You will notice that next Friday we have our first $1 Dress Down Day. Students may dress down in they bring in $1, the proceeds going to our sponsored child, Guito, via the Student Council. Guito is a boy from South America who we have been sponsoring for three years through the Christian Foundation for Children & Aging.
