SCHOOL SPIRIT DRESS DOWN DAY
Fri – Dress Down “Johnny Appleseed” Day

PROGRESS REPORTS: Grades K-2 progress reports are in today’s folder. Please look these over, sign, and return. Grades 3-8 grades are available online through Option C (school code 8085 www.optionc.com) with your user name & password (provided earlier). Please take time this weekend to look at your child’s grades, and sign & return the slip enclosed in today’s folder. As always, if you have a question or concern, do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.

JOHNNY APPLESEED DAY! This Friday, Sept. 27th, students who dress in the spirit of Johnny Appleseed may dress down. Ideas: rolled up jeans, tennis shoes, shirts in “apple colors” – red, yellow, green. Students are encouraged to bring an apple for snack that day and to bring an extra for their teacher.

OLOS SCHOOL received $50 for the SCHOOL MALL program (magazine booklet) we recently participated in. Remember, the school receives no additional funds for orders. Thank you for your participation.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:We are in need of parents to help with the soccer fun league. Kaysie Scheuler will head up this league, but several parents will be needed to work with each group of students. Practices would be around 6:30 pm, and days of week depend on parent helper preferences.  Please see sign –up for students and parent helpers elsewhere in this folder.

We could also use help with daily recess duty, from 10:00 to 10:30 and 11:20 to 11:40 daily. Volunteer(s) could take one, two…or all days of week. Mostly this is just general oversight and to be available to take students in who have gotten hurt on the playground or who need to use the restroom. Lunch is provided. Please ask your relatives if they would like to help us out and urge them to call Mrs. Werdehausen.

FANTASY NIGHT:  ALL sold and unsold tickets need to be returned to your main holder or to the office. We are getting several requests for tickets that we cannot fill at the office. Only approximately 70 have been turned into the bank as sold. This leaves 230 tickets still out there, most hopefully sold. Please do not hold on to tickets that are not “for sure”. The weekend would be a great time to get all ticket sales finalized.
SPIRIT DAY CHANGE! School Spirit dress down days will now be on all days that we host HOME GAMES to show support for our fine athletes and to raise school spirit. In months when we do not host home games, the spirit day will be on the last Friday of the month. If you would like to order a spirit shirt, and did not receive a copy of the order form at the Home & School meeting, please sent a note and we will get one out to you. Remember, on days designated, students may only dress down if they wear the official spirit shirt. THURSDAY WILL BE A SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY!

BASKETBALL NEWS:  We had a couple parents sign up at the Open House to be basketball coaches. If you are interested, and did not sign up at that time, please let the office staff or Mr. V know. For those students who did not get signed up at the Open House or indicated that they were unsure at that time – please send in a signed parent note of commitment by Tuesday, Sept. 24th. This is our deadline for student commitment to play.

4-6 GRADE VOLLEYBALL SCORES: The younger girls continue to try hard and are developing skills. They lost their last set of games to St. Stan. Better luck on Saturday girls! Say you can!

JV VOLLEYBALL: The JV Girls won one of three sets in their Thursday night games against Immanuel Lutheran.  Keep up the spirit, girls! We have a HOME GAME this Thursday night so everyone plan to come cheer these girls on to VICTORY1 The work schedule is enclosed in today’s folder.

HOME & SCHOOL MTG – If you were at the Home & School meeting on Thursday evening then you know what an enjoyable and informative evening it was! Several door prizes were given away ($25 to Fairway, pizza from Corner Market, $20 from Arris Pizza) and a great potluck meal was shared. Thanks to all the parents, students, officers, staff & teachers who put so much effort into the evening!
HOME & SCHOOL FUN NIGHTS: Two nights will be offered as “fun nights” for students of OLOS. On Friday, October 11th, the PK-4th graders and parents are invited to play kick-ball in the old gym. On Friday, October 18th, the 5-8 graders and parents are invited to gather for volleyball in the new gym. Both of these events will run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This is not a babysitting service; we encourage you to come and play along or watch and cheer!

H & S TREASURER NEEDED: If you are interested in serving as treasurer please contact Mrs. Werdehausen. Please consider your talents and pray over this opportunity to serve the OLOS school family.

FIRE DEPT. TOUR: On October 10th the students of OLOSS will be enjoying a trip across the road to tour the fire dept. and to visit with local firefighter(s). Permission slips will be coming home next week.

HELIAS VISIT: On Wednesday, Oct. 16th the 7th & 8th graders will be visiting Helias High School for the morning. Afterwards, they will be enjoying lunch at a restaurant. WE ARE IN NEED OF PARENT DRIVERS. Please call/send note with your offer to drive and let us know how many you can haul. Thank you!

STUDENT HEALTH SCREENINGS will be THIS THURSDAY, September 26th. Students will have height, weight, vision, hearing, lice and immunization checks.
