Title I Reading and Math parent permission forms are being sent home today if your child qualified. Mrs. Barnicle will begin services on Tuesday and before and after school tutoring will begin on Monday. Your child may not attend until forms are signed and returned.

You will notice (above) that we are hosting our first home volleyball games tomorrow morning and our girls will play at 9:00 am. What a great show of spirit for these girls for many to show up to cheer them on and show school spirit!!!

Still needed: One School Advisory Board member. Please contact Mrs. Trachsel with your offer to serve on the Board. Thank you!

HEALTH SCREENINGS have been canceled for Monday and moved to Friday, Sept. 30th, due to a death in one of the nurse’s family. We will need 3 volunteers for this day. Please, if you can help out, let us know. God bless!

Good to see and visit with all the wonderful grandparents (and grandparent – subs!). Thanks to all for sharing Mass and an enjoyable morning with us!

Fantasy Night News:  When selling tickets please ask the purchaser if they will split the prize in case they do not attend the event that evening – and note this on the ticket stub. Also – please have them fill in their meat preference on the ticket stub. IT LOOKS LIKE WE STILL HAVE ABOUT 30 TICKETS LEFT TO SELL (that we know of) so please let us know if you need any more tickets!

Students’ grades (grades 3-8th) are online and will be updated for the midquarter report by next Friday. You must use your parent login information (sent home last week) to access these grades. OLOS is moving away from paper copies of reports cards and billings. If you do not have internet access, you are always welcome to use our lab computers to check in on your family module. If you absolutely have no other access, and cannot make it to school, we will provide, at your request, a paper copy of grades. We will be sending home a signature slip next Friday, to ensure parents have looked at their children’s grades over next weekend. Students in grades K-2 will receive a paper copy next Friday.

Needed:  Home and School officers for the positions of V. President and Secretary. Lynn Kempker is the President and Missy Evers is the Treasurer. Please contact Mrs. Trachsel if you are interested in serving in either of these positions.

August Lunch Billing has been posted online to the family module. When you access the HOMEPAGE of your online account, you will immediately notice a “Billing Balance”. This is the total amount owed or credited to all accounts – this is not just the lunch account. To find out the details about each account click on the “Office” tab, select “Billing”. From there you can sort accounts by child, month, or view all accounts at once. This may seem a little confusing at first, but please take time to familiarize yourself with these accounts and if you have any questions, please call. There will be NO PAPER BILLING for lunch, unless the account falls into arrears. If you don’t have internet access, you can always send a note or call to inquire about your lunch balance (and any other balance, excluding van & school support/tithing payments). Remember – all checks must still be made to individual accounts. For example, you may not pay sports fees and lunches with the same check. Thanks!

SPECIAL THANKS TO…    Tim Morff – for the hours and endless hours he has spent at school working on the computers, replacing where needed, installing printers, and just basically getting the whole system up to where it needed to be…also to Wilma Kliethermes and Amy Marriott, who helped Nancy on Wednesday morning getting those yummy cinnamon rolls prepared for Grandparent’s Day. WE COULD NOT DO IT WITHOUT OUR GREAT VOLUNTEERS!!

If you ever have any small items left from prizes from picnics, Happy Meals, or birthday parties that you don’t need, please send them in for Mrs. Massman’s preschool treasure box. Thanks!

CHEER COACH NEEDED: Would you consider sharing of your time and talent to coach the cheer team this year? If you are willing, please contact someone in the office. Thanks!

REPORTERS NEEDED! Would you consider being the parent reporter to update the Friday Notes on volleyball scores and highlights of games? You can email weekly info to rosie@radiowire.net (by 10:00 am Thursdays, please). Let us know if you are willing! Thanks!

Please look this information over and pray over this wonderful opportunity to uphold all rights to life. We are now asking that these forms be turned in by September 28th. The cost depends on the number of students going. Financial help may be available to the students so please just attach a deposit of $50 to the form.

Also needed: volunteer to bubble in tests (name, birth date, etc), which can be done in any free time before the actual testing dates. Please call the school office with your offer to help. Also mention this opportunity to grandparents and family members – is not hard and may really enjoy it!

Subs needed – 60 college hours preferred. Please contact Mrs. Trachsel for more information.

On Monday, all the grounds and kitchen/school areas need cleaned up. This is really a three day (plus) event for our parish – so do your best to help when/where needed. Thanks to all for your support of OLOS Parish and School!

Have a fantastic three and a half day weekend, students! God bless us all and remember to pray for the success and for good weather for our PARISH PICNIC! See you all there!

There will be a Fantasy Night committee meeting this Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. This is a newly forming committee to be involved in all aspects of planning and carrying out Fantasy Night. Good luck to our volleyball players, as we officially begin the playing season, especially to the JV team, who plays on Thursday evening!

Go to http://www.boxtops4education.com/ to enroll in daily chances to win bonus box tops for our school. The current promotion is 250,000 bonus box tops. When you set up your account, General Mills will send you a daily email reminding you to enter each day – just takes a couple seconds to do. Who knows – we may win one of these days!

FRIDAY NOTES

8-19-11

OLOS School provides a quality education & develops the whole person

 in a faith-filled Catholic environment.

Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday    School Physicals – 6:00 pm
Thursday       All School Mass (7th & 8th grade ministry)
Friday             August “Dress Down for $1 Day”

We are off to a wonderful start to the 2011-12 school year. The students are settling in nicely and we see lots of SMILES!! Please keep Our Lady of the Snows students, staff, & families in your daily prayers. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Volleyball News: Due to the large number of players, the 4th grade girls will not be needed for volleyball this year. However, we do appreciate your interest and look forward to seeing you on the team next year!! 5th & 6th grade volleyball practices will begin this Wednesday, Aug. 24th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm (this Wed. only because no PSR), and then beginning August 29th, every Monday & Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Remember – current physicals, the $20/family sports fee, and the sports packet must all be turned in for your child to practice/play. Reminders and the sports packets are in today’s folder for all girls signed up for volleyball.

Once a month, OLOS Student Council sponsors a “Dress Down for $1 Day”. Most of the proceeds from this day are used to sponsor a child in Chile, South America, whose name is Brayan (nicknamed Guito). This is an honor system and only those bringing a dollar may dress down. Next Friday, Aug. 26th is our first $1 Day. Thanks for your support! (If you want to find out more about Guito – see our bulletin board in the cafeteria – has letters, pictures, etc).

Physicals:  Dr. Emily Kliethermes will be here Wednesday night, Aug. 24th to do physicals. The cost is $20. Both boys and girls physicals will be available. A parent must be in attendance. Please send a note to the office if you are interested in this for your child.

OLOS School is in need of three School Advisory Board members for the current school year. If you are interested and willing, please contact school office personnel.

Please fill out the enclosed survey from Diocesan Advocates. This is for our e-rate parent survey – through which we receive funds for our phone and electronic services. Last year OLOS School received $2100 through this program. We would like and definitely benefit from full participation in this survey. All responses are completely confidential.

If you did not fill your church/school tithing form out in the registration packets (last spring) a new copy may be found in today’s folder. Father Pat asks all parents to participate fully by returning this form. We will continue to seek this form until all are returned.

IMPORTANT!!! If a child is doing anything out of the ordinary after school, THEY ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE A NOTE (unless something comes up during the day – then a phone call to the office is in order). This would include any school related event also. This is a safety issue – we need to know that you know where your children are and we want them to be where they are supposed to be. Students need to become responsible for seeking notes from their parents (especially in the older grades) and will only be allowed to call parents on a discretionary basis.

Notes – as related to dispensing medication. PLEASE WRITE A NOTE – ON PAPER, clearly outlining when your child needs the medication, the dosage, the name of the medicine (if not on container), the medicine container marked with the child’s name, if it needs to be refrigerated, etc. Bottles of medicine show up in the office with no instructions and unnecessary calls have to be made to parents. WE NEED YOUR EXPLICIT WRITTEN PERMISSION TO DISPENSE ANY MEDICATION, with all information clearly provided.

Subs needed – 60 college hours preferred. Please contact Mrs. Trachsel for more information.

Reminder to parents: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s), and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring
medications.

VAN PARENTS – PLEASE WRITE THESE NUMBERS DOWN!!!  Please use common courtesy and call Jim in the mornings if your child is not riding the bus. This may avoid a trip out of the way or a long wait, which throws others late. Jim’s numbers are: 498-3595 before 6:20 am, and 694-2214 after 6:20 am. Thank you for your consideration.

HOMEWORK can only be picked up between 3:00 and 3:15 each day for students who have been absent. Requests can be made to send work home with siblings or others. Please specifically request homework when calling in your child’s absence if you so prefer. Some parents prefer to not have the homework, especially if their child is still feeling unwell.

SAVE, SAVE, SAVE.
*       Save any used print cartridges, laser or jet, fax cartridges, etc, and send them in to school or leave in the church vestibule in the box so marked.
*       Save those “Box Tops” found on many, many groceries & other misc. items – worth 10 cents each. Send to office.
*       Save Best Choice UPC’s (not the label). Send to office.
*       We receive premiums from Target if you choose OLOS School as the designated school on your Target RED credit card. Parents, teachers, and other school supporters use their REDcard credit card or Target check card, and Target will donate 1% of their purchases back to the designated school. To participate, all you need is a REDcard to enroll. Enroll at Target.com/tcoe or 1.800.316.6142.
*       We participate in the Schnuck’s “Education is Everything” campaign. Visit http://www.schnucks.com/ and click on the eScrip Community Card link for program information. You will receive a card and you can present it every time you shop. A percentage of the purchase will be contributed back to OLOS School.
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO FOR OLOS SCHOOL- REMEMBER EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS!

Deadline for Friday note information is Thursdays, 9:00 am. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper (the school cannot afford to supply paper for outside events). Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy. It is not appropriate for the school to send out extraneous information that can be handled other ways. Also, if you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items up, send them in, or email them to rosie@radiowire.net (call to let me know you have emailed please). I don’t mind doing a little editing and rewording, but the bulk of the item should be outlined with details.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Please return your folder, and all documents, on Monday.
