SUDS FUNDRAISING: Our Lady of the Snows is kicking off its Show Me Suds laundry soap fundraiser TODAY and it will run until April 19, with product delivery on either April 27 or 28. Order forms are in today’s folder. This is the perfect opportunity to purchase laundry soap, dishwashing pods, dishwashing soap, and fabric softener to save everyone money and benefit OLOS at the same time. All proceeds will go towards our parish technology needs. Contact Joan Doerhoff or the School Office for additional information. Thank you for your continued support of OLOS!

AFGHAN REFUGEE COLLECTION UPDATE: OLOS students did very well in collecting needed items for Afghan refugees over the last two weeks. As of Thursday, the total items collected was up to 444, well over the goal of 200 items needed for the ice-cream party! Great job, students and families! We are planning the ice-cream party for after Lent, so that all the students may enjoy, as some have given up ice-cream or sweets as their Lenten sacrifice. Thanks so much for your awesome support of this project!

SO VERY PROUD! We are especially proud this week of two 5th grade girls – Romie G. & Madelyn D. After recent events, Romie came up with the idea to make bracelets for sale and donate the proceeds to a mental health program. Spinning off from this idea, she asked the help of her friend, Madelyn, and they have been very busy making “Kindness Bracelets”. If you’ve followed our Facebook page, you will be more familiar with this, but as a description, this is what they presented on Thursday morning:

St. Thérèse of Lisieux was known for joyfully making small sacrifices to God and doing good deeds for others out of love for Christ. She called this her “Little Way.” We encourage you to imitate St. Thérèse by using this Kindness Bracelet. There are 10 beads and one cross. Each bead represents an act of kindness. The cross is a reminder to pray the rosary each day. One bead equals one good deed performed for love of God. We encourage you to wear your bracelet or keep it in a handy place. Every time you do a good deed or make a little sacrifice you move closer to Christ and show your love for God. They will be on sale for $2 each and the money collected will be donated to a mental health awareness program.

Following is what is attached to the bracelet itself as an explanation:

Goal: 10 beads/10 acts of kindness per day

1 cross/pray the rosary every day

“Our Lady of the Snows School students have felt called to acknowledge the recent loss in our community as well as all those who are emotionally hurting. We are selling these “Kindness Beads” to raise money for mental health awareness and hope that it will inspire people to intentionally practice kindness each and every day.

If you or someone you love is struggling with suicidal thinking or is in emotional distress, you can contact the National Suicide Prevention Helpline 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255.

St. Therese, the Little Flower, as a child, used a small string of beads in her pocket to help her count the acts of kindness she did to offer to God. In this way she was able to advance in perfection daily. You too, can grow in holiness by following the example of the Little Flower.”

Please support their efforts by sending in $2 for a bracelet for your child to purchase at lunchtime. Thank you!

LIVING STATIONS OF THE CROSS: The 2nd graders will be presenting the Living Stations on Friday at 2:15. Please join us if you are able. We hope to do a Facebook Live post in case you can’t join us in person.

SPELLING BEE PRACTICES each Tuesday & Thursday from 3:00 – 3:30 pm through April 5th. Spelling Bee is April 6th.

CHOIR PRACTICE is on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 3:30 pm.

TALENT SHOW/FIELD DAY: On Wednesday, May 11th, we will be having a Talent Show sponsored by Mr. Jannetti in the morning, and a Field Day event in the afternoon (may begin before lunch?). Please be talking to your kids about what they might like to do for the talent show, as we want ALL students involved! Also, please contact Amy Hagenhoff if you would like to help plan the Field Day event. We are asking for parent volunteers for that day as well, so please let Rosie or Amy know if you would be able to help that day. Sounds like so much fun!

8TH GRADE NET RETREAT: This retreat is a yearly tradition for our 8th graders and takes place in Folk, MO. It is being held on Friday, April 22. We are in need of one driver to transport the three students to and from the retreat. Mr. Vandike will be in attendance with the students.

8th GRADE GRADUATION is set for Saturday, May 7th, 6:00 pm Mass. Traditionally, 7th grade parents and students coordinate and host the 8th grade graduation. Graduation checklists were sent home last week to 7th grade parents. 7th grade parents, please coordinate among yourselves on who will oversee each item on the list. Thanks so much to Missy Beck and Pam Groose, parents of 6th graders, for offering to help host that evening!

BE KIND! Ms. Dala Hemeyer of Catholic Charities has started a six week anti-bullying & kindness pilot program with our Our Lady of the Snows School Grades 5-8 students in which they will be led through a curriculum and service project that promotes the practice of kindness and empathy as well as how to exercise growth mindset.  The goal is to give students practical skills they can use to battle challenges, both big and small, that they will encounter day to day and throughout their lives! The 3rd & 4th grade students are helping our staff to “spy” for the various acts of kindness being practiced by the older students and to report their observations back to Dala each week. We are so encouraged by this opportunity!

AFTER EASTER PLANS: We will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Tuesday, April 19th, after we come back from Easter Break. Would you please send in ONE DOZEN filled eggs by Monday, April 11th for each student’s classroom? Please no chocolate that would melt or candy with any kind of nuts.

CHANGES TO CALENDAR: We WILL be in session on April 19th & 20th, snow make-up days.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR for the afternoon of Friday, April 22, as we are planning a fun reunion for all former staff members of OLOSS. All parents and community members are invited to attend. There will be light refreshments available.

APRIL: Our April morning prayer is The Act of Contrition, and our March Christskill is Forgiveness.

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 21-22 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by Tuesday, March 26th, 2022, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family.  Congratulations to Alex & Oliver H.for winning this week.

SPOTLIGHT ON STAFF – Our Lady of the Snows School is very blessed to have such devoted, hard-working, and experienced staff members who have dedicated their careers to the children and families of Our Lady of the Snows community.  We will spotlight a different staff member in the bulletin each week.  This week's spotlight is on Bryan Evers, our new cafe assistant cook.  "Hi, my name is Bryan Evers!  I have lived all my life in Mary's Home.  My parents are Fred and Margaret Ann Evers who have lived their entire lives in Mary's Home, too.  I am the youngest of seven kids. I have been married to Stacey Evers for twenty-three years, and we have two children, Noah who is 22, and Hannah who is 19.  They attended Our Lady of the Snows School and are now both at college in Springfield MO.   I attended Our Lady of the Snows School and graduated from high school at Cole R-V.  I just recently retired from the MO Secretary of State Office after thirty-four years of service and still continue to work part-time there.  I am now also working two days a week in the Cougar Cafe!  When I am not working, I like to spend time with my family, traveling, walking, and being outdoors.  Our Lady of the Snows has always been an important part of my life.  I love seeing the children grow in their faith and academics!"

Please return your folder on Monday.

Wishing you a great early spring weekend! Blessings!
