        November “Dress Down” Day

DRIVERS NEEDED: The 7^th & 8^th graders will be visiting Helias High School on the morning of Thursday, November 13^th. We are asking for drivers for these fifteen students. Please contact Mr. Vandike if you would be able to help out. We cannot send out permission forms until we have drivers. Thanks to Christy Evers, our first volunteer.

SHILOH DANCE: Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Shiloh Dance by setting/cleaning up, working, and/or attending. We made $575.00 for the school lunch program! The financial breakdown can be found on the reverse.

MUFFINS WITH MOM:  All moms (and mom substitutes) are invited to school on Thursday morning from 7:00 to 7:30 am to enjoy muffins with their child. All moms are then invited to attend Mass, if time and work schedules allow. We are looking forward to seeing many moms on Thursday!

SANTA STORE: The Santa Store is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18^th, during special classes. This is a special opportunity for our school children to shop for family members and they REALLY enjoy it. We are in need of donations of any kind, but most especially “dad” gifts, and brother/sister gifts. You can send those items in at any time. Also, we will need some helper elves to wrap gifts and help the students with shopping. Debbie Schulte & Wendy Whittle have volunteered to help out. If you are able to be here that day, please contact someone in the office.

ADRIAN RUSSELL: Adrian Russell (alumnus) is currently stationed at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. We have adopted him as our pen pal this year. We are asking families to send in cards, uplifting notes and some of the following for a care package. We would like to have everything for the care package to school by November 17^th. Ideas:  Hard candy, deck of cards, crossword puzzles, magazines, books, envelopes with stamps on them, stationary, filtered cup for water, mini flavored packets for water.

SPIRIT WEEK:  At the end of November, OLOS students are encouraged to participate in spirit week, just before the basketball games get started for the season. On Monday, Nov. 24^th we will have “Sock it to Em” day – students wear crazy/funky socks, Tuesday, the 25^th will be “Show School Spirit by wearing blue & gold”. Wednesday the 26^th – each classroom will decide their theme. So much fun! Then we break for Thanksgiving!

MONTHLY CALENDARS: You were provided monthly calendars for the entire school year in your school handbook. We also post the calendar on our school website, which is updated with game information and recent changes/additions to the calendar. To save costs, we will no longer provide the calendar in your Friday folder. For now, we will keep sending the lunch menu, but it is also available online.

VOLLEYBALL UNIFORMS: If you have not already done so, please turn uniform in with name.

SNOW DAYS:  We are following Eugene snow day cancellation this year. But, OLOS School families will still get parent alerts and cancellations will still be posted on the three local TV stations – Channels 8, 13 & 17.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM: Mrs. Haeffner is heading up efforts to make an outdoor classroom. Items needed for this classroom are: BIG outdoor thermometer, wind sock, weather vane, concrete statuary, rain gauge, and a sundial. If you would like to donate, please send to the office. Thanks for your support!

SCIENCE FAIR:  This is the year for Science Fair projects (every other year). Be thinking about topics with your child. All students in grades 3^rd through 8^th are required to do a project as part of their science grade. Younger students are encouraged to participate as well. Guidelines will be sent home in the very near future.

GIRLS BASKETBALL PRACTICE: Practices will begin for 6/7/8 girls’ basketball on Thursday, Nov. 6^th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday until games begin.

4/6^th BOYS BASKETBALL PRACTICE: Practices for 4^th and 6^th grade boys will begin this Monday from 3:00 to 5:30 pm and every Monday thereafter. Please send a note for your child to stay after school (You may send in one note, giving permission for your child to stay after on Mondays for the entire season.)

7/8 BOYS BASKETBALL PRACTICE:  Practices for 7/8^th grade boys is every Wednesday, from 3:00 to 5:30 pm and every Wednesday thereafter. Practices will also be held on Sundays, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, but Mark will let players/parents know weekly if practice will be taking place on Sunday evenings. Please send note for your child to stay after school. (You may send in one note, giving permission for your child to stay after on Wednesdays for the entire season.)

SPORTS INFORMATION PACKETS: We are still missing sports information packets on several players (sent home last week). No student will be allowed to begin practices next week without these packets on file.
