GREAT BEGINNINGS…We are
off and running in a great new school year here at OLOS School! It’s so much
fun to see everyone with their smiling faces. So many of them have grown and
matured so much over the summer, and of course greeting all the new little
preschoolers as they begin their school days is such a treat. Special
welcome to new preschool students: Braylon, Konley, Merida, Jameson, Sadie,
Ella, Lilah, & Amelia, and to our new 5th grader, Ally. We are so glad to have you with us!
THREE DAY WEEK! Please note that school will be in session on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, but out on Thursday and Friday for picnic preparation. School will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3rd.
SCHOOL SPIRIT DRESS DOWN DAY: Monday is our first School Spirit Day. Generally, we have one Spirit Day each month. When ballgames begin, we try to schedule them around home games. Students may ONLY dress down if they wear the school sponsored spirit shirt and students do not have to participate. (These shirts may be the new or old logo – and are not the community shirts), If you don’t have a spirit shirt to wear, no worries - just dress in normal dress code.
SHIRT ORDERS, including dress code and spirit shirts, are due by this Sunday, August 25. You can order online @ https://www.queenbcustomgraphics.com/snows
Ordering will open again later. Delivery of existing orders is expected
to be this upcoming week. Sorry about the delay; thanks for being patient as we
adjust to our new method of ordering.
SERVICE HOURS: As a condition of
enrollment, 20 hours of service to OLOS School & Parish is required of parents
of all school children. Most parents do many more than 20 hours of service
here, but the expectation is that you do at least 20
per household. Student service hours are not included in the 20; they have
their own goals within the school and classroom. Parent service
hours should be logged on your family portal. Once in your portal, on the left
side choose “Family”, select the parent’s name at the top middle, click “add”
in the righthand corner and log your hours. They will be verified periodically
by the school office staff. For tracking purposes, it may be easier to log all
service hours performed by either parent under the parent who normally checks
the portal. If you are not able to fulfill this
obligation, you may pay the hours out @ $10/hour, for a total of $200. The
Parish Picnic and Fantasy Night are great opportunities to log several hours of
service.
DRIVERS NEEDED to send our nine 7th & 8th graders to Helias for a tour on Thursday, Sept. 12th. Please let Mr. Vandike or office staff know if you can drive that day.
GRANDPARENTS’ DAY CELEBRATION: Wednesday, September 11, 2024, beginning with Mass at 8:00 am, followed by classroom time, Scholastic Book Fair, & refreshments (through approx. 10 am). Make sure to invite your grandparents NOW so that can get the date on their calendar. If grandparents can’t make it, please feel free attend or ask another relative.
TREATS FOR CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS: Store-bought treats are preferred. Please contact the classroom teacher when you are ready to send in treats for your child’s birthday.
SUN BUTTER/LUNCH ALTERNATIVE: Students may choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée if they have a note from home. They must bring a note on the day that the substitution is desired and must present it to the classroom teacher first thing in the morning. Please note that the “main entrée” is the protein item. For example, if our meal is vegetable soup with grilled cheese & string cheese, the substitution would be for the cheese sandwich & string cheese, not for the vegetable soup.
SIGN UP FOR GERBES COMMUNITY REWARDS: OLOS is
enrolled in the Gerbes “Community Rewards” program. This program offers money
back to our school, based on enrolled customer’s spending. It is a really easy
process. You just tie your Gerbes shopper’s card to our school account. If you
don’t have a Gerbes shopper’s card, it takes less than a minute to get one at
the store or online. All the information needed to complete this process is
online. @ www.gerbes.com/communityrewards Our
school code is TU152. It takes just a couple minutes so get all your family
and friends to register as well! The school will receive quarterly payments in
cash form. We will update you as we receive those funds. This has the potential
to be a great moneymaker for the school – the key is to get many, many people
involved. No selling needed! Please pass the word to family and friends
and thanks for supporting OLOS School!!!
We received $70 over the summer for the quarterly rewards. Thanks to those who participate!
REMINDER TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS BRINGING LUNCHES FROM HOME: Please see that your child’s lunch has everything they need for their meal – drinks, plates, utensils, condiments, napkins. The lunch program cannot support the supply of these items. Thanks to families who donated some supplies – plates, cups, etc. Additional reminder – no soda or caffeinated beverages allowed to be brought in for students bringing their own lunch.
DEADLINE FOR FRIDAY NOTES: Thursdays, 9:00 am. If you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items, send them in, or email to rbeck@olosschool.org. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper. Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s), and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions and dosage cups/spoons. These will be locked up in the office. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring medications.
YOUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 24-25 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by the Tuesday of the week following, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family (or a treat for preschoolers). Congratulations to Maddie for winning our first drawing!
