Although they will get a drink & snack each morning at school, please make sure that they eat a good breakfast and get plenty of rest. In the afternoons, students will resume normal classroom routines.

PICTURE RETAKE DAY is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11th at 8:15 am. Your child’s pictures (taken Tuesday) will be ready sometime in the upcoming week. If you would like your child’s picture retaken, please return the intact packet, along with a short note explaining what you would like to see changed. Students having retakes or who were absent on the day of pictures may dress up for the retake day, but will have to change into dress code afterwards.

FANTASY NIGHT is around the corner! It is next Saturday, October 8, 2022, Tickets are still available at Mary’s Home Bank, and the school office. We are asking that you please turn in all sold and unsold tickets to the school office by this Monday, Oct. 3rd. Work schedules are in today’s folder. Please, if you have not signed up, call the school office to be placed into a time slot. As school families, we are all obligated to work and support our fundraisers. A Drive thru will be offered after the 4:00 pm Mass, beginning around 5:00 pm and ending at 6:00 pm for those not attending the event but who have tickets and would like to pick up their meals.

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAYS AT OLOS SCHOOL! Many of our students received their OLOS School “Community T-shirt” (Heart shirt) this week after completing their classroom community service goal. These students may wear their “heart” shirts on Monday, for our first Community Service Day (theme – Fire Department/First Responders), and if wearing it, may dress in appropriate length shorts or jeans, following dress down day guidelines. We will have a Community Service Day the first Monday of each month. You supplied the sizes when you filled out the online enrollment packet.  Please contact Tammy Love directly @ 573-418-0762 to purchase a new shirt if the size you supplied does not work for your child. The “Heart” shirts may also be used for field trips and other community service days.

EMERGENCY DRILLS: OLOSS students/staff will be conducting drills over the next several weeks. Classroom teachers discuss these drills with students beforehand, but it may be a good idea to discuss these at home with your younger children ahead of time.

CEMETERY LIGHTS: We are taking donations for the tea lights needed to light up our cemetery for All Saints’ Day. It takes a minimum of 1000 lights and they generally last two years. You can leave your donation with Rosie in the school office or place it in a marked envelope in the collection basket at Mass. Thank you for your support!

7/8 HELIAS VISIT: Our 7/8 will be visiting and touring Helias on Monday, October 10th. They will also be eating lunch out. Thanks to Pam Groose & Amy Hagenhoff, for driving our students on this trip!

CLASSROOM PARENT LIST/HALLOWEEN PLANS: The room parent list is in today’s folder (compiled from online registration packet). The room parent coordinator has been assigned to be the central contact for the classroom party – to coordinate & to make plans known to the classroom teacher. For Halloween, we are inviting all parents, parishioners, and community members to participate in our Trunk or Treat. At 1:30 pm on Oct. 31st, students will go on their annual “Halloween Walk”, trick or treating the parish office, M.H. Bank, the Credit Union, and possibly the Market. In conjunction with this, we will also have our 3rd annual Trunk or Treating in the church parking lot. Please pass the word to community members and parishioners – all are invited to treat the kiddos! Please call the school office if you or someone you know would like to participate. In planning ahead, we ask that students not wear scary or gory costumes. No fake blood, devils, etc. Keep it light and fun!

IT'S GETTING COLDER!!! Please make sure your child brings a jacket with them each day, as it has been chilly several days already, and students have had to use jackets from our stockpile.

VIRTUS TRAINING: As a school parent, it is important that you participate now in the Protecting God’s Children/Teaching Safety Program, otherwise known as VIRTUS (if you haven’t done so already). If you help in any way at school, are a room parent, drive students for field trips, coach, etc., you are required to have this course. There is an approximately 2-hour online training course (free) for your convenience. You can access this and create an account @ www.virtusonline.org. Please call the school office if you have any questions.

ICE CREAM!!! Through a grant received from the Dairy Council, OLOS was able to purchase an ice cream/yogurt machine, valued at approximately $1500. We are so thrilled to be able to offer this treat to our students, hopefully at least once a month. However, the grant did not supply funds for actual ice-cream mix. We are looking for ice-cream sponsors, those who would like to donate to an ice-cream fund. We will be experimenting with it soon, but it looks like it will cost us about $30 to make enough ice-cream for our students each time. Contact Rosie or Cindy Lepper for more information.

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 22-23 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by the Tuesday of the week following, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family. Congratulations Jessi W. for winning this week!

20 HOURS OF SERVICE: New for this school year is the required 20 hours of service to OLOS parish/school for parents of all school children. Most parents do many more than 20 hours of service here, but the expectation is that you do at least 20 per household. Student service hours are not included in the 20; they have their own goals within the school and classroom. Parent service hours should be logged on your family portal. Once in your portal, on the left side choose “Family”, select the parent’s name at the top middle, click “add” in the righthand corner and log your hours. They will be verified periodically by the school office staff. For tracking purposes, it may be easier to log all service hours performed by either parent under the parent who normally checks the portal. Make sure to log events like the picnic, FANTASY NIGHT, coaching, fundraisers, helping at school or in the parish in any way. If you choose not to fulfill this obligation, you may pay the hours out @ $10/hour, for a total of $200.

SUN BUTTER/LUNCH ALTERNATIVE: Students may choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée if they have a note from home. They must bring a note on the day that the substitution is desired and must present it to the classroom teacher first thing in the morning. Please note that the “main entrée” is the protein item. For example, if our meal is vegetable soup with grilled cheese & string cheese, the substitution would be for the cheese sandwich & string cheese, not for the vegetable soup.

REMINDER TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS BRINGING LUNCHES FROM HOME:  Please see that your child’s lunch has everything they need for their meal – drinks, plates, utensils, condiments, napkins. The lunch program cannot support the supply of these items. Thanks to families who donated some supplies – plates, cups, etc.

TREATS FOR CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS: Store bought treats preferred.

PLEASE RETURN YOUR FOLDER ON MONDAY.

Have a fantastic

THREE DAY WEEKEND, STUDENTS!
