spent the morning with us on Wednesday. The students were thrilled to have
their dads with them during Mass and afterwards for the class presentations. We
LOVE our DADS at OLOS SCHOOL!
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Today, in this folder, you
will find information showing the time slot(s) for your conference(s) on
Thursday evening. If you don’t see your child’s name on the list, please pick a
slot, and return on Monday. The final list will be sent home on Wednesday with
the students. Please be prompt to your conference, and remember that time slots
are 10 minutes each. If you look at the list, you will see that if you run over
your conference time, it affects every time slot after you on the list. If you
need additional time to conference with the classroom teacher, please make
arrangements for additional time at a later date. Thank you for your
cooperation and understanding.
SCHOOL PICTURES will be taken
this Tuesday, October 23rd. THIS WILL BE A “DRESS UP” DAY (Jeans may be worn). The price
list/order form was enclosed in last week’s folder. If you have misplaced
yours, please contact Rosie in the office. Photos
will have a grey background. Mr. Blackwell assures us that it will only
take a few days for you to receive your child’s photos and parents not ordering
now will have the opportunity to order afterwards. Yearbooks will be offered,
but we will compile these through an online company and offer them for sale
through a different order form later in the year.
FANTASY NIGHT THANKS! Parents – give yourself a pat
on the back for a HUGE job well done! Fantasy Night 2018 was a great success.
We worked hard the last week, and were able to sell out of tickets in the last
few minutes before the event. Special thanks to Jay Harms, for doing such a
great job on the prime rib.! A preliminary report will be given at the H &
S meeting on Tuesday evening.
HOME & SCHOOL MEETING: The first Home
& School meeting is THIS Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:30. Fr. Alex wishes to address ALL SCHOOL
PARENTS at the first H & S meeting. Please make plans now to attend this
mandatory meeting. THERE WILL NOT BE A POTLUCK DINNER – JUST THE MEETING. Also,
each of your children will receive a BONUS DRESS DOWN PASS for your attendance.
HALLOWEEN PARTIES/PARADE: On Wednesday, Oct. 31st, the
students will be able to dress down in orange and black and then be able to
change into their Halloween costumes around 1:15 that afternoon before the
Halloween walk. PLEASE NO SCARY OR GORY COSTUMES – no witches, devils, demons,
ghosts, goblins, etc!!! If your child’s
costume is deemed inappropriate, they will not be allowed to wear the costume
in the walk/party. Regarding the dress down in orange/black day – we do have
MASS that morning. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD’S CLOTHING IS APPROPRIATE FOR
MASS. IF WEARING A HALLOWEEN SHIRT, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE GHOSTS, WITCHES, OR
ANYTHING OF THAT NATURE ON THE SHIRT. IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR
NOT IT IS APPROPRIATE – DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO WEAR IT. Thank you, in
advance, for abiding by these requests.
PERMISSION FORMS FOR THE WALK MAY BE FOUND IN
TODAY’S FOLDER. PLEASE FILL OUT COMPLETELY OR IT WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU. ON
THE PART WHERE YOU HAVE TO PUT WHERE THE FIELD TRIP IS TO, YOU MAY WRITE IN
“all of the above”, or “Mary’s Home businesses”, or list each business (but if
you do this you must list them all). Students will be visiting with Fr. Alex, The Corner Market, M. H. Bank,
Credit Union, & Evers Machine.
MUFFINS WITH MOM! Calling all moms! Now it’s
time for you to mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 14th,
when we will celebrate Mass and afterwards move over to school for fun and
fellowship. Make plans now to attend!
DESE REVIEW: A representative from the School Lunch Program
was here on Tuesday to review our program. This review now occurs every three
years. The reviewer looks closely at adherence to child nutrition standards,
menu standards, product standards, free & reduced certification procedures,
meal counting & claiming procedures, civil rights training, staff training,
health inspections, income/expense reports, direct certification, public
releases, wellness program, and many other items. These standards are all
maintained and updated by our Food Service Manager, Carla Morris. We are proud
to announce that our program passed through the process very well, with no
corrective actions.
SANTA STORE: We will have a Santa Store again this
December, and are asking for donations. Donated items may be new or gently used
- items for moms, dad, siblings, grandparents, etc. We usually run short on men
and boy items. Please send any donation anytime. Thank you very much!
SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: The date has been
set for the school Christmas program –
Thursday, December 6th at 6:30 pm. The make-up date will be
Sunday, December 9th at 10:30 am.
ROOM PARENTS: Please feel free to reach out to ALL
classroom parents for needed items, possibly going down the class list and
dividing up responsibilities for the three parties. Halloween
parties should begin after the “walk”, usually around 2:00 pm, on Oct. 31st.
Thanks for all you do in making our classroom parties so much fun!
PARISH MISSION: After Saturday evening Mass on Saturday,
Oct. 27th, Mr. Frank Runyeon will be presenting “Sermon on the
Mount”, as a parish mission. A flyer is enclosed in today’s folder. All parents
& students are highly encouraged to attend. It should be very interesting!
CEMETERY LIGHTS: Like last year, the school
children will be placing the lights (tea lights) on all the stone markers in
the cemetery on the eve of All Saints (Halloween), to stay lit through All
Souls. FATHER ALEX WILL LEAD THE PROCESSION TO THE CEMETARY, WITH THE LITANY OF
THE SAINTS, AFTER MASS ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, ALL ARE INVITED TO JOIN US.! This
activity goes back to a tradition originating in Germany where people lit
candles and placed them on the graves of their loved ones, letting them burn
throughout the night before All Saints, representing the “light of the holy
souls”. We do this entirely through donated funds. Last year, if you saw this
on the night of Halloween, you know what a spectacular sight it was. We
received many positive comments from the community! Thanks to all who have
supported our efforts to raise money for the lights!
VOLLEYBALL NEWS: Last night the girls played
their LAST GAME OF THE SEASON. Though they lost their sets, they played hard.
We are very proud of our Lady Cougars – Deanna Backes, Emma Goetz, Grayson
Koetting, Phoebe Whittle, Bella Groose, Aly Haeffner, Aliyah Talledo, &
Grace Groose. Many thanks to Coach Brittany Goetz, for her time and dedication to
the team!
