Dress Down Day
DADS JOIN US! This Wednesday, October 17th, all
dads are invited to gather for Mass, enjoy “donuts with dad”, and have some
fun! Students may sit with dad in church if they so wish. If dad can’t make it
Wednesday morning, grandpa or any other special person may join your child. We
will conclude around 9:45-10:00 am.
PARENT-TEACHER SIGN-UP: Today, in this folder, you
will find a sign-up sheet for parent teacher conferences. Preschool parents
should find a sign up as well. Please put child’s name beside your 1st
& 2nd choice. Grade cards will only be available this quarter
through conference with the classroom teacher.
SCHOOL PICTURES: We now have school pictures
set up for Tuesday, October 23rd. Dwayne Blackwell of D & J
Photography, Russellville, MO is taking our pictures this year. The price list/order
form is enclosed in today’s folder. Please return these, with payment attached,
as soon as possible. Photos will have a grey background. Additional help will
not be needed this year. Mr. Blackwell assures us that it will only take a few
days for you to receive your child’s photos. Something new this year is the
opportunity to purchase the “extras” without having to purchase a packet first.
We are excited to offer this new photo opportunity, with lower prices, to our school
families. Yearbooks will be offered, but we will compile these through an
online company and offer them for sale through a different order form later in
the year.
FANTASY NIGHT WORK LISTS were sent home last week. If
your name did not appear on the list, and you are able to work, please just
show up and help where needed/ask Robyn Silvey. Preparation begins tonight
(Friday night) at 6:30. All help is needed for preparation, the event, and for
cleanup after the event. Remember, it takes all school families to make this fundraiser a success. There are
still several tickets for sale. Please direct anyone interested in tickets to
Mary’s Home Bank before 11:00 am on Saturday morning. After that time, please
contact Robyn Silvey or Mr. Vandike for tickets.
SANTA STORE: We will have a Santa Store
again this December, and are asking for donations. Donated items may be new or
gently used - items for moms, dad, siblings, grandparents, etc. We usually run
short on men and boy items. Please send any donation anytime. Thank you very
much!
SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: The date has been set for the
school Christmas program – Thursday,
December 6th at 6:30 pm. The make-up date will be Sunday,
December 9th at 10:30 am.
HOME & SCHOOL MEETING: The first Home
& School meeting will be Tuesday, October 23rd at 6:30. Fr. Alex wishes to address ALL SCHOOL
PARENTS at the first H & S meeting. Please make plans now to attend this
mandatory meeting. THERE WILL NOT BE A POTLUCK DINNER – JUST THE MEETING.
EXTENDED CARE FAMILIES: As stated on the
yearly calendar, provided at Open House, there will be no extended care
services this Friday afternoon, October 19th, but it will be
available to those who normally attend in the morning.
HALLOWEEN PARTIES/PARADE: On Wednesday, Oct. 31st, the
students will be able to dress down in orange and black and then be able to
change into their Halloween costumes around 1:15 that afternoon before the
Halloween walk. PLEASE NO SCARY OR GORY COSTUMES!!! If your child’s costume is
deemed inappropriate, they will not be allowed to wear the costume in the
walk/party. Regarding the dress down in orange/black day – we do have MASS that
morning. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD’S CLOTHING IS APPROPRIATE FOR MASS. IF
WEARING A HALLOWEEN SHIRT, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE VAMPIRES, GHOSTS, WITCHES, OR
ANYTHING OF THAT NATURE ON THE SHIRT. IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR
NOT IT IS APPROPRIATE – DO NOT ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO WEAR IT. Thank you, in
advance, for abiding by these requests.
ROOM PARENTS: Last week you received a list of room parents.
Please feel free to reach out to ALL classroom parents for needed items,
possibly going down the class list and dividing up responsibilities for the
three parties. Halloween parties should begin after the
“walk”, usually around 2:00 pm, on Oct. 31st. Thanks for all you do
in making our classroom parties so much fun!
OLOSS “BEE” KIND CLUB: Students who were
recognized for acts of kindness and generosity on 10/5 were: PK – Esdon
Koetting – hugging a friend & telling them sorry, K – Oliver Hagenhoff –
sharing toys at recess, 1st – Abby Eickhoff – sharing toys at
recess, 2nd – Gus Pringer –
helping another student catch up with work, 3rd – Alex Hagenhoff –
offering to referee basketball/keeping it fair, 4th – Trenton Lage –
assisting & playing basketball with younger students, 5th – Ben Goetz –

help others & making everyone laugh, 7th – Ayden Schulte – for

are displayed in the school cafeteria. (Note – the first student listed in each
grade is kindness noted by the classroom teacher. If any additional are listed,
they have been noted by other members of the staff.) Great job, students!
CEMETERY LIGHTS: Like last year, the school
children will be placing the lights (tea lights) on all the stone markers in
the cemetery on the eve of All Saints (Halloween), to stay lit through All
Souls. FATHER ALEX WILL LEAD THE PROCESSION TO THE CEMETARY, WITH THE LITANY OF
THE SAINTS, AFTER MASS ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, ALL ARE INVITED TO JOIN US.! This
activity goes back to a tradition originating in Germany where people lit
candles and placed them on the graves of their loved ones, letting them burn
throughout the night before All Saints, representing the “light of the holy
souls”. We do this entirely through donated funds. Last year, if you saw this
on the night of Halloween, you know what a spectacular sight it was. We
received many positive comments from the community!
VOLLEYBALL NEWS: Congratulations to the girls
on winning BOTH MATCHES last night at St. Martin’s. Set scores against St.
Martin’s were 29-27, 25-19, & 13-25. Set scores when playing Trinity were
25-13, 25-17, & 15-25. Way to go, Lady Cougars! We are PROUD of you!
LOCAL WELLNESS POLICY: OLOS School has an
established wellness policy, which is available to the public, and is on file
in the school office. It may be viewed during school hours.
