CHRISTMAS GIFTS: This year, students will be
exchanging gifts within the classroom. Girls should buy for girls and boys buy
for boys – with the value of the gift being $5. PLEASE SEND IN YOUR CHILD’S
GIFT BY TUESDAY, SO WE KNOW THAT EACH STUDENT HAS ONE TO SHARE. They will
exchange their gifts at the Christmas party this Wed., Dec. 21st,
with parties scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm. We will also have a special visitor
that morning around 9:00 am! Room parents – we count on you to make our parties
a success – providing for games & refreshments. There is a room parent list
at the end of these notes for your convenience.
PRINCIPAL’S GOOD CHEER! Mr. Vandike is
just full of Christmas cheer this year, so as a Christmas gift to the students
& staff, he is giving two bonus dress down days – on Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday is a dress down in red & green day. THANK YOU MR. VANDIKE!
FATHER PAT & PIZZA: What do they
have in common, you ask?? As a Christmas gift to the students and staff, Father
Pat is ordering in pizza, chips, and a sweet treat for lunch on Tuesday. All
students, including students who normally bring a sack lunch, are invited to
eat pizza with Father that day. THANK YOU SO MUCH, FATHER PAT – WE ARE ALL
LOOKING FORWARD TO TUESDAY!!!
PK/K/1st/2nd PARENTS: If you are planning on attending the 4:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass, and
would like your child to be part of the Nativity during the reading, please
send a note to the office. Father Pat would like to have some little ones act
out the Nativity, much as they did at the school program.
SANTA STORE: The students had a great time shopping at the
Santa Store on Tuesday. Many thanks to all who sent in donations or helped in
any way. We especially want to thank our “Santa’s elves” who helped with
shopping and wrapping all those gifts – Theresa Berendzen, Debbie Schulte,
Debbie Klindt, Danen Horseman, Tracey Backes, Elijah Whittle, Alvina Sestak,
Cindy McKenna, and Jonie Lage. Also thanks to Chistina Eickhoff, who was coordinator
of this event.
AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES: When you’re out,
picking up the bargains after Christmas, watch for cheap gift bags. We had so
many donated this year, but once again ran out. Any and all sizes needed. Also,
be watching for Santa Store items, especially dad and older brother gifts. If
you buy, and don’t want to store until next year, go ahead and send bags/items
in, we will be glad to store it until next year! Thanks so much!
THE MARY’S HOME CHRISTMAS PARADE is THIS
Saturday, December 17th, after the 5:00 pm Mass. The parade begins at 6:30 pm, and the floats
will be lining up at the KC ball field around 6:00 pm. If you go to 5:00 pm
Mass, your child can still ride the float, but you may consider carpooling kids
together because it may be harder to get in with so many vehicles congregating.
So far, we have approximately 25 children riding, with several offers to
chaperone. IF YOUR CHILD WANT TO THROW CANDY, PLEASE SEND SOME ALONG. Parents – please use your discretion
regarding the cold and bad weather and putting your child on the float. If the
weather becomes too bad on Saturday afternoon, OLOS School will withdraw from
the parade, and you will be contacted through Option C Thank you for your
support!!
THE ELDON PARADE went very well with much fun
and fellowship. Our Lady of the Snows float won FIRST PLACE! Thanks to all who
participated and a special thanks to Jay Harms for all his hard work and
hospitality!
ITALIAN FEAST NEWS: We are right at
the door of Christmas, and before you know it, we will all be coming together
for the Italian Feast fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4th.
In today’s folder, you should find two flyers for posting, a letter to parents,
and an envelope with tickets to sell for this event. If you need additional
tickets or copies, please notify the office. Each student is asked to bring in
an item for their classroom basket valued at $5 or more no later than Jan. 20th.
Class basket themes are as follows:
PK – Family Fun Night
K – “Frozen” – the movie (anything to do with
movie)
1/2 – Missouri Lottery
3/4 – Camping
5/6 – Baking
7/8 – Beach Bums
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! The H & S is
looking for someone to train with Nancy this year, to be the manager in the
kitchen for the Italian Feast next year. Two people could do this as co-managers.
The ordering of groceries for the Feast would not necessarily be part of this
position. Please pray over this opportunity to share your talents and
management skills and contact Mr. Vandike with your offer to help.
CHRISTMAS EVE CHILDREN’S MASS CHOIR PRACTICE: The second practice will be Thursday, December 22nd from
6:00 to 7:30 pm in the choir loft of church. If you missed the first practice,
no worries, just come on Thursday and join in!
PARISH PENANCE SERVICE: Reminder to all
– Penance Service, Wednesday evening, 12/21, at 7:00 pm. All second graders
plan on coming to the Penance Service to watch.
OLOS SCHOOL IS SPONSORING A SHILOH DANCE ON JANUARY 21, 2017. Tickets will be sold at the door. Make plans now to help out and/or
attend. Work sign-up sheets were sent home last week. If you would be able to
help out, and didn’t return yours, contact the office or Ashely Groose.
BALL SCORES: The JV Girls took a loss against St. Peter
last night, with a final score of 14 - 21 – a good game! The JV Boys won their
game against St. George, Linn, with a final score of 50-35. Way to go boys!
FOOD DRIVE: Congratulations to the 5th/6th
& 7th/8th grade classes, on winning the dress down
day, for most cans collected by average.
We collected a total of 345 items for local food banks! Good job
students (and parents!) Mr. V will assign a day in January when these four classes
may dress down.
