PROGRESS REPORTS: Today in this folder
you will find your child’s midterm report or a sign-off sheet. Students in
Grades K-2 receive a mid-term report and students’ reports in Grades 3-8 are to
be viewed online at www.optionc.com, with
our school code – 8085 – and your individual username and password. Please sign
& return the enclosed report/form on Monday. As always, if you have any
questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.
ACHIEVEMENT TESTING: Testing
begins on Monday for students in grades 3-8, and continues in the mornings all
week. Please make sure that your child gets a good breakfast each morning and
plenty of rest! There will be no additional tests for these grades next week,
and no homework. If your child does happen to have homework, perhaps they are
not using their time wisely (?).
FANTASY NIGHT is scheduled for October 8th. There
are still tickets for sale. Between the office and the bank, we know we have at
least 25 unsold, so keep on selling. Just stop by either location or send a
note and we will send tickets home.
WORK LISTS: OF THE 44 SCHOOL FAMILIES, WE HAVE HAD 25
RETURNED. Remember, it takes ALL school
families to make this fundraiser a success – so please make every effort to
help out where possible. WE ARE INCLUDING ANOTHER SIGN UP FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT
RETURN LAST WEEK. Even if you have other plans, please return with a note.
TEST READERS: We could use one volunteer on Wednesday
and/or Friday to read achievement tests on a one-on-one basis.
HALLOWEEN PARTIES/ROOM PARENTS: The room
parent list is in today’s folder. We count on our room parents to provide
games, snacks, and drinks for our three classrooms parties each year –
Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day. Thanks to all coordinators for
graciously accepting the responsibility of overseeing the parties. PLEASE NOTE:
Due to Halloween falling on a Monday, the preschoolers will enjoy a party and
short parade to the classrooms on Thursday, Oct. 27th, from 2:00 to
3:00 pm. They are invited to walk with us around town on Monday, the 31st
as well, but MUST HAVE A PARENT WITH THEM AND ALSO FILL OUT A PERMISSION FORM
FOR THEM. The “Walk” on Halloween will begin at 1:30 pm.
SCHOOL PORTRAITS: School pictures are
scheduled to be taken on Tuesday, October 11th. We are in need of
ONE VOLUNTEER to facilitate this process. Contact Rosie in the office with your
offer to help.

MARCH FOR LIFE IN D.C. Packets for this
trip were sent home a while back. THEY ARE NOW DUE!!! Please contact Nancy
Kliethermes for further information. Packets with payment can be turned into
the school office, and will be forwarded to Nancy. The local deadline for all
paperwork, fees, and insurance cards is October 1st. If you are an
adult chaperone and have not attended a VIRTUS session, please let Carol Plank know.
If several need training the diocese may hold a class here instead of having to
attend in Jefferson City. Questions about Virtus in Mary’s Home? Contact Carol
Plank.
CHEER COACH NEEDED: We have several young girls interested in
cheering for the basketball games and they are hoping to find a coach. If you
or anyone you know would be interested in volunteering for this, please contact
the office. All volunteers must have attended VIRTUS training.
WELCOME NEW BABY! We congratulate Peyton (K)
and Pierson (PK) Groose on the arrival of their new little baby brother, Paxton
Samuel. Paxton was born on September 15th, and weighed in at 9
pounds, 3 ounces, and was 21 ½ inches long. We congratulate proud parents,
Ashley & Loren. Please pray for this very happy family of five! God bless!
SPIRIT DAYS: This Thursday is a Spirit Day, as we host home volleyball
games that evening. As a reminder, on Spirit Days, student may dress down only
if they have on one of the official spirit T-shirts, printed by Tammy Love.
Please do not let your child come to school with old reading counts shirts, or
anything of that nature. We do have a few donated spirit shirts on the rack in
the cafeteria in various sizes if you don’t have one yet for your child. Come
by or call the office.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED: 60 College hours
preferred. Please contact Mr. Vandike for more information.
GO LADY COUGARS! The JV volleyball team won
against St. Peter, JC. last night, with scores of 25-10-, 25-8, and 25-13. Way
to go ladies! Good luck this weekend, playing in the Honey Creek tournament at
Calvary Lutheran. We are all still rooting for the younger girls, who haven’t
won a game yet, but are trying hard and learning a lot. Keep up the spirit
girls!

ONLINE BOOK
RESOURCE: Secretary of State Jason Kander announced a new statewide resource,
TumbleBookLibrary Deluxe. This online subscription provides access, within the
public library or remotely, to a collection of 550 animated, talking picture
books; chapter books; and educational games for children in preschool through
third grade. Dynamic early reading experiences, such as those available through
TumbleBookLibrary Deluxe, are essential to developing literacy, language and
comprehension skills that equip children for success in school and life.
Children struggling to read by third grade are four times more likely to drop
out of high school. However, when children are exposed to books and reading
from an early age, they become better readers and are less likely to fall
behind in the classroom. TumbleBookLibrary Deluxe is provided entirely through
Library Services and Technology Act funding. It is an expansion of the Missouri
State Library’s Racing to Read Initiative to promote early literacy. For more information
on TumblebookLibraryDeluxe, visit your local public library or contact the
Missouri State Library at (573) 522-4036.
