SNOW
DAY MAKE-UP: Due to the recent snow day, school WILL be in
session on Monday, January 19, 2015.
SCIENCE
FAIR: OLOS
Science Fair will be held Thursday, Feb. 12th. Students in grades
3-8 are required to do a project (experiment) at home for this, and it will be
part of their science grade. Students in 6th through 8th
grade are required to submit a paper with their project and are eligible to
participate in the diocesan science fair and should make their project in one
of the three categories of Life,
Physical, or Earth science. We highly encourage all students to work
individually; however, if two students work together they must be in the same
grade. Students in younger grades may also enter a project in the fair if they
so wish. Guideline information was sent from the classroom teacher. Boards
available at a cost of $4 per board. See enclosed form for purchasing. (Checks payable to OLOS.)
BOX
TOPS FOR EDUCATION: The school recently received $215.60 for box top
submissions. That’s pretty good for 10 cents at a time! Thanks to all who clip
and send in and especially thanks to Gina Adrian, who heads up this program.
GAMES
12/18: Income from
Concessions & Gate - $147.70.
CLARIFICATION
ON SNOW DAY CANCELLATIONS:
We are following Eugene
snow day cancellation this year. But, OLOS School
families will still get parent alerts and cancellations will still be posted on
the three local TV stations – Channels 8, 13 & 17. Additionally, there may be times when we have
to cancel school when Cole R-V does not because of parking lot conditions. If you, or someone you know, would be willing
to clear snow from the lots to help alleviate this problem, please contact Mrs.
Werdehausen.
EXTENDED
CARE SERVICES: In the event of inclement weather, or early
dismissal due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be NO EXTENDED CARE
SERVICES available. All students should be picked up at the dismissal time
which would be announced with the dismissal notification. On regularly
scheduled half days off (listed on school calendar), extended care is available
from 12:00 – 5:30 pm.
OUTDOOR
CLASSROOM: Still needed:
wind sock, concrete statuary, and a sundial. If you would like to
donate, please send to the office.
SNOW
DAYS & LUNCHES: If we call
school due to inclement weather, please be advised that the menu may change
without notice.

A note from Mrs.
Barnicle/Title 1 Instructor: My decision to retire was bittersweet. I will miss the
children and the friendship of the great staff at school, but then again I now
can go and come as I please and spend time with my now retired husband. Thank
you for all the cards, gifts, well wishes and hugs at my retirement party. It
brought tears and joy. I especially love the finger print with names rosary. It
will be put in a place where I can see it every day….Mrs. Barnicle
A NOTE FROM HELIAS FOR 7/8TH GRADERS: Lincoln University
recognizes that our parochial students (who attend private high schools like
Helias) are not qualified, due to their enrollment, to receive the A+
scholarship. Therefore, valuing our fine disciples, they have started an
alternate scholarship for parochial students who meet criteria similar to A+
standards. Enclosed is a letter explaining this, which Lincoln has requested our area schools be
made aware of.
