CLASSROOM ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR; Combined classrooms: 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, 7th/8th, with Kindergarten and Preschool as separate classrooms.

GARDENING HELP:  It’s time again to be thinking of summer care for our flowers and plants on the school grounds. Each year we ask families to volunteer to do weekly watering and weeding around the two school buildings. If we get enough, most families would only have to take one week. Please send a note/email/call to the office with your offer to help out with this – no green thumb needed!

SKETCH PRACTICE:  There will be Sketch Day practices for those designated students on Wed., April 16th and Wed., April 23, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm.

SELF STUDY: We are excited to welcome the self-study visiting team to OLOS School this Sunday! This group of principals, teachers, and superintendents will be with us through Tuesday. This will be a very busy three days of work and study. The summation will be the fried chicken dinner on Tuesday, April 8th, at 5:30 (by RSVP only), with the report following.

EASTER EGG HUNT: We are once again planning our annual Easter egg hunt. The hunt will be for students in PK through 5th grades on the afternoon of Tuesday, Apirl 22nd (after Easter). We are asking each family in PK-5th to bring in one bag of candy (no chocolate because it melts in the sun). No plastic eggs are necessary; we have accumulated plenty. If you wish, you may also send in extra treats for students in 8th grade, who will be graciously filling and “hiding” the eggs. 6th & 7th grades are having a scavenger hunt. You may go ahead and send the candy into the office at any time. Thank you!

QUILT RAFFLE:  Today in this folder you will find a flyer displaying a beautiful quilt for raffle pieced and quilted by Alma Koetting. Alma donated this quilt to use as a fundraiser for the school wherever it is most needed. If you would like to buy raffle tickets or want to sell any, please contact the office and we will send you some booklets. They are $1 each or 6 for $5. This is an OPTIONAL fundraiser. The quilt is queen sized and the colors are blue & rose. It is BEAUTIFUL! Thank you so much Alma!!!

LOOKING GREAT! Thanks you so much to Bryan & Noah Evers and the Gish boys, for trimming bushes and sprucing things up around school last week. YOU’RE THE BEST – THANK YOU!

8TH GRADERS: Start getting your pictures together.  Please submit 7 pictures (name & numbered on back 1-7, in order) by April 11th.

GRADUATION CAP/TASSEL/GOWN FEE FOR 8TH GRADERS: The school charges $8.50 per student for cap/gown/tassel fees. You may send this in at any time. Please make checks payable to OLOSS Special Account. Guidelines for graduation dress: Boys – dress pants, collared shirt, dress shoes, tie is optional; Girls – dresses, no more than 2 inches above the knee, no spaghetti straps showing (may wear shawl to cover). Students will be wearing cap/gown for graduation and awards ceremony.

THE READING COUNTS DEADLINE is Friday, April 25th. If your child reaches 200 points by April 25th, he/she qualifies to attend the Reading Counts field trip, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 8th at Tan-Tar-A Waterpark. The Fundraising Committee designated profits from the two breakfasts this year to go towards this trip. We are proud to say that with the approximately $1575 made from these two events, the cost for the bus (approx. $400), and the majority of the ticket costs will be covered. Parents will probably be expected to pay $5-6 per child (full price of tickets is $17). Parents are welcome to attend and gain entrance for $5, or are charged $17 if swimming. No siblings are allowed on this trip. Additionally, for every 25 points over 200, your child gets a ticket, to be placed in a drawing for a prize. If your child does not qualify to attend the trip, he/she will stay at school as a normal day of school and will be held responsible for all assignments.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS: The school children will be attending Stations of the Cross every Friday afternoon at 2:15. If you or a grandparent will be taking your child after the Stations, please send a note to the classroom teacher so that students can bring their book bag to church with them.

EXTENDED CARE SERVICES (before and after school) will be available on Holy Thursday and on May 15th, the final day of school.
