A DECEMBER TO REMEMBER DAILY DRESS DOWN MOVIE THEMES: Your child may dress down if they follow the theme for the day but must adhere to all length/no fray/no holes requirements. Mrs. Varner has tried to make it easy – you can either follow the theme closely with actual outfits, or just in the general color theme, as outlined on the flyer or in “The Week Ahead”, as listed above.

SANTA STORE: Our annual Santa Store will be available for our students to shop this Tuesday, December 17^th during their special class time. Name tag packets were sent home last week. If you have not returned your child’s envelope, please do so on Monday. We will accept donations for the store through Monday as well.

STUDENT COUNCIL MEETING CANCELLED: There will be no Student Council meeting this week. The wonderful ladies – our volunteer “elves” – are setting up the Santa Store for the students on Monday, so there will be no need for a meeting on Monday evening.

SPORTS NEWS: Madelyn & the St. Joe Cathedral Spartan 8^th Grade basketball team defeated Holy Family, Freeburg on December 5^th, with a final score of 36 – 6. Way to go Madelyn & Team!

CHRISTMAS PARTY/LAST DAY PLANNING:

We will follow the schedule below for December 20^th, our last day in session for 2024:

8:00 am                   All School Prayer Service – all invited

8:30 am                  Brunch (pancakes, sausage,  hashbrowns) all parent/guardians invited, complimentary

9:00 – 9:45 am       Classroom parties

9:45 am                  Students may be signed out

11:00 am                 All remaining students will be  dismissed (pick-up no later than 11:00 am – no afternoon extended care services)

LAST NOTES FOR 2024! On Friday, 12/20, we will send home folders with iReady & Achievement test results, along with January calendars. There will not be a newsletter enclosed, so we want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy, Safe, Blessed and Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

OLOS CHRISTMAS PROGRAM is THIS SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8^th, after the 8:00 am All School Mass. The program will begin at 9:15 am. The list of student ministry assignments is once again in today’s folder. For Mass, students are asked to dress nicely (no jeans) and adhere to dress code lengths. Please have students wear green, red, or black, if possible. Students may sit with their parents at Mass, and then should change into costume and should find their teacher NO LATER THAN 9:05 am. The school basement (in brick building) will be open after Mass for 10 minutes to allow for students (any grade) to get changed, if needed. Please use the lower back door.

SANTA STORE: Our annual Santa Store will be available for our students to shop on Tuesday, December 17^th during their special class time. Name tag packets & a flyer explaining the day are in today’s folder. We are still asking for donations of gifts for family members & friends. We are also asking for donations of bags, tape, and tissue paper. We thank our “Santa’s Elves” – those who have volunteered to help with wrapping and shopping that day - Lue Ann Hogg, Bev Koetting, Diann Brenneke, Debbie Groose, Crystal Hoover, Cindy McKenna & Darlene Rush.

PIZZA PARTY! The students, staff & Father Simon enjoyed their lunch tremendously on Wednesday! Deacon Chet treated all of us to pizza from The Mary’s Home Corner Market. He says he so enjoys the cards and gifts he receives from the students that he wanted to find a way to show them how much he appreciates it. He purchased 24 pizzas, so we all had our fill and then some! Thanks so much Deacon Chet!

ARCHERY PRACTICE: We currently have three students interested in Archery. After conferring with parents of these students, they have tentatively decided to set practices on Wednesdays after the new year gets going. Students participating must have a physical on file, pay the $25 sports fee, and fill out a sports packet. If your child is still interested (5^th on up), please let the office know this week so that everything will be in order when practices begin.

MIDTERM PROGRESS REPORTS are available today. Please follow the directions below to access your child’s report. Special class grades are not posted unless there is a concern for your child.

3-8 Progress Reports are available online. To access Progress Reports on your family portal - sign in, then follow these steps:

On left, click “Student”

On left, directly under “Student Home” click “Grades”

In upper middle/left screen click “Midterm Progress Report”

If you have more than one student, you can switch between them on the upper left. Please sign the slip that is enclosed in today’s folder, acknowledging that you reviewed the report. It is a good idea to log in weekly to check grades. This is also a good time to log in any service hours you have performed.

K-2 Progress Reports are in today’s folder. Look these over and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the classroom teacher.

SCHOOL-WEAR ORDERS should be in no later than December 10^th.

HOME & SCHOOL ELECTIONS: Based on ballots returned by 28 of our 36 school families we offer the following election results:

Thanks so much to all the individuals who volunteered or agreed to run for these positions. We also want to recognize the 23-24 officers: Jena Schwaller (technically staying on in advisory position), Amber Schulte (who will be moving up to president), Ashley Evers, Andy Adrian, & Roselyn Wood. We thank you all for your donation of time & talent!

Your child may dress down if they follow the theme for the day but must adhere to all length/no fray/no holes requirements. Mrs. Varner has tried to make it easy – you can either follow the theme closely with actual outfits, or just in the general color theme, as outlined on the flyer We have included these dress down days on the monthly calendar as well. Let’s all show our Christmas spirit!

EXCITING PLAYGROUND NEWS! The new playground equipment is in for the younger students’ area. This equipment is at no cost to the school and made possible through a grant. The equipment needs to be put together. It includes benches, picnic tables, a dome jungle gym, along with other things. We are looking for someone to take charge & spearhead the assembly part of this project. Please call the school office with your offer to help!

VOLUNTEERS & VETS! Thanks so much to all who celebrated with us on Thursday, so many of our great volunteers, supporters, & veterans. Including students, we had approximately 110 eating that day. Many thanks to Cindy & Bryan, who have worked the whole week (plus) to put on this meal – roasting turkey & baking bread. They teased us all week with wonderful smells! We also would like to thank our great 7 & 8^th graders & Mr. V. for hosting, our art classes & Ms. Williamson for the great decorations, & Mrs. Marie, Darlene Rush & Donnie Lepper for general help. How could we get along without such great help? We very much appreciate each & every one of you!

SOCKTOBER IS OVER! Congratulations to our 7^th & 8^th graders, who won the Socktober sock collection contest. These students managed to collect an average of 11.1 pairs of socks per student, with 100 pairs collected. Great job 7^th & 8^th graders (and parents)! The school collected 288 pairs of socks overall! The breakdown by classroom follows:

PK – (23 pairs)        1.4 socks per student

K – (7 pairs)            1.4 socks per student

1/2 – (21 pairs)       2.3 socks per student

3/4 – (36 pairs)      7.2 socks per student

5/6 – (101 pairs)     7.2 socks per student

CROCHET CLUB has been moved to Monday night this upcoming week. Please fill out form that Mrs. Hoecker has sent home.

HEALTH SCREENINGS: On Tuesday morning we had our annual health screenings with nurses from the Miller Co. Health Dept, which included vision & hearing tests. If there were any concerns for your child, you will find a notice in today’s folder. Thanks so much to Megan K. & Ashley B. for volunteering their Tuesday morning to help us out!

VETERANS DAY: We will begin celebrating Veterans Day this Monday, November 11^th, by dressing down in red, white, & blue or camo. Jeans may be worn. On Thursday, November 14^th, all active military members and veterans from the Mary's Home community were invited to our Thanksgiving luncheon. RSVP was required by 11/4. (We are also recognizing the many volunteers who assist us here at school).

MEETINGS THIS WEEK: There will be a Home & School Meeting this Monday, November 11^th at 6:00 pm, beginning with a potluck meal. We will elect new officers. All attending will receive a bonus dress down pass for their child. Following the H & S meeting (approx. 7:00 pm) we will have a Fantasy Night Follow Up Meeting. Make plans now to attend one or both of these important meetings!

GERBES COMMUNITY REWARDS: The school recently received $78.00 for our families’ participation in the Community Rewards program. Please see the end of notes for information on how to get signed up for this program.

SCHOOL-WEAR ORDERING IS OPEN THROUGH FRIDAY! Queen Bee Graphics is taking orders for school wear for one more week - through Nov. 15^th. This would be a good time to take advantage of ordering for Christmas or if you just need some school shirts, quarter-zips, or spirit shirts. Orders should be in no later than December 10^th.
