We especially wish to welcome new students: Hoyt, Caroline, Wade, Carter, Oli, Isabelle, Emery, Jax, Hatti, Brody, Ellie, Tre, and Jess! We also welcome Mrs. Varner, our new principal, Mrs. Hoecker, 5/6 grade homeroom teacher, and Cindy Lepper, new head cook.  NEW ALL SCHOOL MASS SCHEDULE: Beginning in September, Mass schedules will be as follows:

7/8 Ministry          1st Wednesday of month…

5/6 Ministry          2nd Wednesday

4th Ministry            3rd Wednesday

2/3 Ministry          4th Wednesday

K/1 Ministry           5th Wednesday

If we are out on a Wednesday, then that class will be skipped. This schedule will allow for parents and teachers to better plan ahead. K/1 will minister two months – November & March (the two 5th Wednesdays). You are always welcomed and encouraged to attend Mass on Wednesdays, especially if your child’s class is involved with the ministry.

DEADLINE FOR FRIDAY NOTES: Thursdays, 9:00 am. If you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items, send them in, or email to rbeck@olosschool.org. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper.  Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s),and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions and dosage cups/spoons. These will be locked up in the office. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring medications.

DRESS DOWN DAYS/DRESS CODE CLARIFICATION: Every Friday is a dress down day for students. We just want to remind everyone that dress down days are a privilege. Please adhere to all length and sleeve requirements. This is important all school days. On Wednesdays (Mass days) students should always be in dress code. Dress down passes are never allowed on Mass days. We always want to look our best and present a unified front to our community (that is what was meant by “dress up”)! Also on Wednesdays, make sure your child wears sneakers/tennis shoes to school. Wednesdays are PE days, so it is even more important that your child has on good, sturdy footwear.

GRANDPARENTS DAY/BOOK FAIR WEEK!!! We are planning Grandparent’s Day this year!!! This will be the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that we are able to host this most enjoyable day and we are so thankful! Grandparents Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 14th, beginning with the 8:00 am Mass, and then moving over to the parish center (gym) for additional activities. This will also be the week of the Scholastic Book Fair, so it will be open as well for shopping with grandparents. Make sure to get in contact with your grandparents now so that they can plan on enjoying the morning with us!

SIGN UP FOR GERBES COMMUNITY REWARDS:  OLOS is enrolled in the Gerbes “Community Rewards” program. This program offers money back to our school, based on enrolled customer’s spending. It is a really easy process. You just tie your Gerbes shopper’s card to our school account. If you don’t have a Gerbes shopper’s card, it takes less than a minute to get one at the store and also online. All the information needed to complete this process is online. @ www.gerbes.com/communityrewards. Our school code is TU152. It takes just a couple minutes so get all your family and friends to register as well! The school will receive quarterly payments in cash form. We will update you as we receive those funds. This has the potential to be a great moneymaker for the school – the key is to get many, many people involved. No selling needed! Please pass the word to family and friends and thanks for supporting OLOS School!!!

COMMUNITY REWARDS RECEIVED over the summer -  $66.03. Thanks to all who participate!

CARTRIDGES: We are no longer collecting used printer/toner cartridges. In the past, we have received significant funds for these products. However, recent returns have been substantially less. We thank all who have supported our past collection efforts so very much!

SUN BUTTER/LUNCH ALTERNATIVE: Students may choose a sun butter and jelly sandwich in lieu of the main entrée if they have a note from home. They must bring a note on the day that the substitution is desired and must present it to the classroom teacher first thing in the morning. Please note that the “main entrée” is the protein item. For example, if our meal is vegetable soup with grilled cheese & string cheese, the substitution would be for the cheese sandwich & string cheese, not for the vegetable soup.

REMINDER TO PARENTS OF STUDENTS BRINGING LUNCHES FROM HOME:  Please see that your child’s lunch has everything they need for their meal – drinks, plates, utensils, condiments, napkins. The lunch program cannot support the supply of these items. Thanks to families who donated some supplies – plates, cups, etc.

TREATS FOR CLASS PARTIES/BIRTHDAYS: Store bought treats preferred.

YOUR CHANCE TO WIN DRESS DOWN PASSES! All families returning their 22-23 Friday folder (The Heavens Declare the Glory of the Lord) by Tuesday, August 23, 2022, with any needed paperwork completed, will be placed in a drawing for a bonus dress down pass for students in their family.

Please return your folder on Monday.
