PROGRESS REPORTS: Today in this folder you will find your child’s midterm report or a sign-off sheet. Students in Grades K-2 receive a mid-term report and students’ reports in Grades 3-8 are to be viewed online at www.optionc.com, with our school code – 8085 – and your individual username and password. Please sign & return the enclosed report/form on Monday. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher.

ACHIEVEMENT TEST home reports are in today’s folder. Grades 3-8 took the Iowa Achievement test in October 2018. Along with this, Grades 3, 5, 7 (every other year) took the Cognitive Abilities Test. The Achievement test measures actual achievement in three core subject areas – Reading, Math, & Social Science/Science. The CogAT measures development of verbal, mathematical, and spatial reasoning abilities. For more information on your child’s CogAT score & profile, directions are given below the “Note” box on the form so that you can access helpful information.

REGISTRATION PACKETS for the 2019-20 school year were recently sent home. Please complete & return these as soon as possible – the sooner the better! If your completed packet is returned by Wednesday, April 24 (when we come back from Easter break), your child will receive a bonus dress down pass (or a sweet treat for preschoolers). PACKETS MUST BE SENT BACK, COMPLETED BY APRIL 30TH FOR FULL REGISTRATION OF YOUR CHILD/REN.

IF YOUR CHILD HAS REACHED 200 POINTS IN THE READING COUNTS PROGRAM, PLEASE LOOK FOR THEIR FIELD TRIP FORM IN THE TODAY’S FOLDER. Please fill out completely and return on Wednesday. If your child reaches the deadline of April 24th, their forms will be sent home on the 24th or 25th through the classroom teacher. ADULTS GOING ALONG ALSO NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO PAPERWORK – SIGN UP & PAY FOR LUNCHES & PAY FOR DISCOVERY CENTER.

APRIL GUN RAFFLE WINNERS! Congratulations to the two winners this month. They are Michael Solanski, who won the Winchester SXP Field Compact (12 or 20 gauge) and Drew Geritz, who won the Mossberg 935 Magnum Black.

THE AMAZING RACE! For our Field Day, on May 16th, students will be participating in the Amazing Race in the morning. It promises to be great fun for all and we are excited about it! However, to put on these events for the kids, we do need our volunteers! If you are able to help out that morning, please send a note or call the office. Thanks so much!

VIRTUS: PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN CLASS COMING TO MARY’S HOME: There will be a Virtus session at OLOS Parish on Monday, April 29th at 6:30 pm. Please go online to diojeffcity.org & follow the links to “Safe Environment – Virtus registration”. All adults volunteering in ANY capacity in our school, whether it be classroom parties, activity days, field trips, coaching, driving MUST attend Virtus training. Basically, every parent in our school needs to be Virtus certified, as well as any relatives that help out.

FINAL LUNCH BILLS for the 2018-19 school year are in today’s folder. If you did not receive a bill, you are paid up for the year. If you did receive a bill, please remit payment as soon as possible.

ALL SCHOOL BILLS must be paid IN FULL for your child to receive their final grade cards/diplomas, as well as for the transfer of any academic records.

8TH GRADE PARENTS: The Freshman Orientation at Cole R-V is on Monday, May 1st, beginning at 5:30 pm in the Performing Arts Center.

READING COUNTS: Reading Counts deadline is this upcoming Wednesday April, 24th. The Reading Counts field trip to Springfield is getting close - Friday, May 3rd, 2019. The students will enjoy the day at the Discovery Center. The bus is scheduled to leave at 7:45 am and return no later than 5:45 pm. Check in at the Discovery Center is 9:45 am. The PK-4th grades will have presentations from 10:00 – 10:30 pm and the 5-8th will have presentations from 10:45 – 11:30 am. Students will eat in shifts – PK-4 from 10:45 to 11:15 & 5-8 from 11:30 to 12:00. The students’ fees for the Discovery Center are being paid with from proceeds from the breakfast. There is a gift shop, which also sells healthy snacks & drinks (crackers, fruit drinks, etc.). Students who choose to do so, for an extra $3, may ride the “Miller Exhibit – Antigravity Highwire Bike”. Students must be able to reach the pedals to do this, and this cost would be paid onsite by the parent/student.

SKETCH DAY: Congratulations to the 7th & 8th graders for a job well done. They did a great job on their sketches and we are proud of them! Their artwork is on display in the school cafeteria.

ANTI-BULLYING PRESENTATION rescheduled to Tuesday, April 30th at 8:00 am.

Holy Thursday – Mass @ 7:00 pm, Washing of the Feet, Eucharistic Adoration, Rosary, & Divine Chaplet. Adoration continues until midnight.
Good Friday – Holy Communion, Passion, & Veneration begins @ 7:00 pm, also Stations of the Cross @ 12:00 Noon
Holy Saturday – Easter Vigil Mass @ 8:30 pm
Easter Sunday – Easter Morning Mass @ 8:00 am

OLOSS “BEE” KIND CLUB: Students who were recognized for acts of kindness and generosity on April 15 were: PK – Esdon Koetting – comforting a friend that was hurt, K – Ryder Lage – putting down classroom chairs without being asked,  1st – Alayna Wood – helping pick up another students index cards, 2nd – Landon Backues – holding the door, 3rd – Shane Beck – being a good role model for others, 4th – Rylee Vandike – being extra helpful in the classroom, 5th –Nolan Schulte – having a good attitude, 6th – Grayson Koetting – always volunteering to help, 7th –Ayden Schulte – buying sodas for everyone, 8th – Aliyah Talledo – buying sodas for everyone. All acts of kindness “bees” are displayed in the school cafeteria. (Note – the first student listed in each grade is kindness noted by the classroom teacher. If any additional are listed, they have been noted by other members of the staff. Great job, students!
