ROOM PARENTS: Christmas classroom parties are THIS THURSDAY, 12/21 at 1:30 PM. We count on you to make our parties a success, providing/planning for refreshments and games. A list of room parents may be found on the reverse of these notes. We are expecting a “special visitor” at 9:30 on Thursday morning!

CLASSROOM CHRISTMAS GIFTS: The students will exchange gifts within the classroom. Boys should buy for boys and girls should buy for girls. The gift should be of $5 value. Please send your gifts in to the classroom.

EXTENDED CARE FAMILIES: Please make note – there will be NO AFTERNOON EXTENDED CARE SERVICES THIS THURSDAY, December 21^st, after the school Christmas parties. We realize that this was not noted on the original school calendar. However, the staff has the opportunity to visit Father Pat after we dismiss at 3:00, and we would like to be able to do that, if his health permits. Morning extended care will still be available, and you WILL NOT be charged for that service if you are a normal morning extended care family.

GUN RAFFLE: If you need additional tickets contact Josh Vandike, Jay Harms, or Greg Koetting. Mr. V’s tickets are available at the office, along with more flyers, if you need those.  The first drawing will be January 20^th.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING @ CAPITOL plans have been cancelled. We just received the flyer with info. on Thursday, which is on the reverse of these notes. Perhaps some parents that work at the Truman Building or in the capitol area might be interested in attending? If you do, please report back to us, so that we may plan for next year.

It is always good for our students and parents to get out there and represent Our Lady of the Snows School. Special thanks to Jay Harms, for the float, his time, and use of his vehicle & trailer.

PULL THOSE BOX TOPS! With all the Christmas baking and family meals this time of year, make sure you are pulling off those “Box Tops” from General Mills products. We are low on submissions this go around, so we would like EVERYONE to start sending those in. Look at it this way - every time you throw one away, you are throwing a dime in the trash can! Our next submission will be at the end of February.

ITALIAN FEAST THEMES: All families are asked to donate items to their child’s classroom basket in preparation for the Italian Feast/Silent Auction on Feb. 3, 2018. The items should be of at least $5 value. As an alternative, you may choose to send in money, and let the classroom teacher shop for you. Please send items in as soon as possible. Themes are as follows:

ELDON PARADE: OLOSS will be sponsoring a float in the Eldon Parade tomorrow, Saturday, Dec 9.  Line-up begins @ 3:00 pm, and we are asking that all students/parents please meet at the float at 4:30 pm. The parade begins at 5:00 pm. All candy appreciated.

MARY’S HOME CHRISTMAS PARADE: Thanks to all who showed up to ride and help alongside the float last Saturday night. It was a great evening for all and the students and parents represented Our Lady of the Snows School very well. Special thanks to Jay Harms, for the float, his time, and use of his vehicle & trailer.

SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: We had great attendance at the play on Sunday. We hope you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for all the cookies. We actually had some leftover, and are able to serve those for lunch during December. It really helps out!

SANTA STORE: Thanks so much to all who sent in gift donations and/or wrapping supplies for the store. The students absolutely LOVE this activity! Special thanks to our helpers on Tuesday – Alvina Sestak, Debbie & Russ Kempker, Elaine Kempker, Fred Whittle, Marie Massman, & Christina Eickhoff. Thanks also to the Student Council, their leaders, and Cindy McKenna, for helping set up.

We do have extra jackets at school, and students are made to wear them when needed. However, it is best if each brings their own, for hygienic reasons.

READING COUNTS SHIRTS may be worn any day in lieu of normal dress code shirts. They do not have to be tucked in. Your child will receive a shirt when he/she has earned 75 Reading Counts points.

DEADLINE FOR FRIDAY NOTES: Thursdays, 9:00 am. All non-school related flyers need to be copied ahead of time on paper. The school cannot afford to supply paper for outside events). Upon approval by the principal, the information will then be placed in the Friday folder as a courtesy. It is not appropriate for the school to send out extraneous information that can be handled other ways. Also, if you have items for the Friday notes, please write these items up, send them in, or email them to rosie@radiowire.net (call to let me know you have emailed please). I don’t mind doing a little editing and rewording, but the bulk of the item should be outlined with details.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL: We do not have a “stock supply” of medications for students. You may choose to send in a pain reliever or other types of medicine for your child. Make sure to clearly mark the container(s), and send a note giving staff permission to dispense the medication, with explicit dosage instructions and dosage cups/spoons. These will be locked up in the office. Sometimes having medicine available here for your child can mean not having to come after him/her or making a special trip to bring medications.

COLLECTION ENVELOPES FOR THURSDAY MASS: Each Thursday, the students have the opportunity to place their offering in the collection. If you need collection envelopes at home, please let us know & some will be sent home. We also have them available in the cafeteria for student use.

MARY’S HOME CHRISTMAS PARADE is tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 2. We ask that all riders meet at the KC ball park after Mass, around 6:00 pm. The parade begins at 6:30 pm. As of today, we only were sure that there are two or three riders, so if you are able to participate and/or bring candy, it would be much appreciated.

SCHOOL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: This Sunday, December 3, after the 10:00 am Mass. Your child should dress in their Sunday best or school dress code, unless the classroom teacher has otherwise indicated. ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS! All students meet after Mass in the cafeteria & parents please proceed to the gym. The only exception is the preschool class, who should all go to the classroom to get ready. Home & School officers and School Board members are asked to host the refreshments (cookies & drinks). Hope to see everyone on Sunday!

STUDENT COUNCIL MEETING, this Monday, Dec. 4^th. Members will decorate for Christmas and set up the Santa Store for Tuesday. We will be finished by 4:00 pm

SANTA STORE: We have scheduled the Santa Store for this Tuesday, December 5^th.  Please send in any gift items or gift bags that you may want to donate. We always need more dad and boy gifts. We need volunteers to help with bagging, wrapping, and shopping. IN FACT, WE ARE IN GREAT NEED OF VOLUNTEERS – PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW IS ABLE TO HELP. STUDENT GIFT TAGS ARE BEING SENT HOME TODAY AND MUST BE FILLED OUT AND RETURNED ON MONDAY! Thanks for your help in making this a very fun activity for our students!

FRIDAY/HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION: On Friday, ALL SCHOOL STAFF will be attending Mass. Please, if your child is late (after 7:50 am) bring him/her directly to church, as all school doors will be locked. We will be celebrating a very special occasion along with the Holy Day. Rylie Balkenbush (4^th grade) & Aliyah Talledo (6^th grade) will be receiving their First Eucharist at this Mass. Their families are treating the entire school to donuts after Mass in the school cafeteria. We congratulate these girls as they reach this most important milestone in their Catholic life!

ELDON PARADE: OLOSS will also have a float in the Eldon Parade next Saturday. Line-up begins @ 3:00 pm, and we are asking that all students/parents please meet at the float at 4:30 pm. The parade begins at 5:00 pm. If your child is riding the float, please send a note back on Monday in this folder. All candy appreciated.

HOME & SCHOOL MEETING – Thanks to all teachers, parents, & Fr. Greg for attending the meeting on Tuesday evening. Many items were on the agenda for discussion. A final report of Fantasy Night was given by Robyn Silvey, and is enclosed in today’s folder. Next year, Fantasy Night is scheduled for October 13, 2018. The Italian Feast Committee will have a meeting on Nov. 29^th @ 6:00 pm. All are invited to join in. The Italian Feast is set for February 3, 2018. A Catholic Schools Week Committee is forming, and will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 5 @ 6:00 and then a Reading Counts End of Year Event Committee is forming, and will meet directly after that meeting @ 7:00 pm. The Mary’s Home & Eldon Christmas parades were discussed, and Jay Harms will head these up for the school. The M. H. Parade is after 5:00 pm Mass on Dec. 2 & the Eldon Parade is on Dec. 9, with lineup at 3:00 & parade beginning @ 5:00 pm. A reminder was given that the Script program is available and a good resource for Christmas gift cards. The Shiloh Dance is set for Jan 20, 2018. New officers were chosen and they are: President – Robyn Silvey, V. Pres – Roselyn Wood, & Secr.- Ashley Kempker. Special thanks to Melissa Koetting for her service as outgoing president. The teachers gave reports from their classrooms. Mr. V. reported that the School Board will be heading up the annual Golf Tournament & discussed implementation of new Christian service ideas, Father Greg has set the Parish Penance Service for December 13 @ 7:00 pm, which will include First Reconciliation for 2^nd graders. Next meetings were set for Feb. 6 & April 10, 2018. Father closed with a prayer for parents & families.

BONUS DRESS DOWN DAY – this Tuesday, November 21^st in celebration of Thanksgiving!

CANNED FOOD DRIVE: Many thanks to all who sent in the donated groceries. They will be taken to a local food pantry for distribution. If you still have some to send in, you may send in on Monday. We will be taking it to the food pantry on Monday evening.

PICTURE RETAKE/SPORTS/GROUPS: Picture retake day is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28. We will also take sports pictures and group pictures that morning. IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILD’S PICTURE RETAKEN, PLEASE RETURN THE PACKET INTACT, WITH A NOTE ABOUT WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE CHANGED. If there are problems with the actual order, please direct those questions directly to Wagner with the contact information enclosed in the picture packet.

BASKETBALL PLAYERS – You were issued a uniform at your first practice. Please wash these up and BRING THEM IN TO THE OFFICE AHEAD OF TIME, IN A MARKED BAG, SO THAT WE ARE SURE EVERYONE HAS THEIR UNIFORM ON PICTURE DAY!

FOLDERS ON TUESDAY: Please return your folder on Monday so that we have them available to redistribute on Tuesday, when we will be sending out class basket themes before the Thanksgiving shopping spree, mid-quarter progress reports, & calendars.

CHRISTMAS CAROLING -HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS CELEBRATION!! Catholic Schools in our area are being invited to come to the state capitol for an hour of Christmas caroling, celebrating our pro-life message, on Wednesday, Dec. 20^th at 11:30 am until 1:30 pm. The program includes music, song and presentation. We would like to be able to send as many students as possible, and are working on coordinating for that occasion. All parishioners, families, & community members are invited to attend and participate!

MUFFINS WITH MOM: Thank you moms, for being here with us on Thursday for Mass and fellowship. We hope you enjoyed yourself! HOME & SCHOOL MEETING – We will have a Home & School carry in potluck & meeting this Tuesday, November 14^th, beginning with the potluck at 6:30 pm, and moving on to a meeting at 7;00. Please all parents come and bring your good ideas and school spirit with you! All attending will receive bonus dress down passes for their children.

MANY THANKS to all who helped this week with Halloween and All Saints Day activities. We would like to thank The Corner Market, Evers Machine, & Mary’s Home Bank for sponsoring the Halloween Walk. For the lights at the cemetery, our thanks go out to Cindy Lepper, Jeremy & Beth Morris, Carla Morris, Marla Kirkweg, & the Cemetery Committee. We put out approximately 600 tea lights, with a donated cost of approximately $220. We received many supportive comments regarding the beautiful lights at the cemetery and plan on making it a new yearly tradition for the school. Thanks to the 7^th & 8^th graders, who put on a great skit about saints on Wednesday for the school children, and also to the 3^rd & 4^th grade students, who did such a great job with the All Saints Mass. And we can’t forget to thank our room parents – who always make our classroom parties so much fun!

MUFFINS WITH MOM: Remember, moms, that you are invited to school and Mass THIS THURSDAY, November 9^th, for refreshments and fellowship. If mom can’t make it, invite a grandma or a sub-mom. All activities should wind up no later than 10:00 am, and probably before that.

NO SCHOOL this Monday, 11/6/17, due to teacher professional development at Helias.

PICTURE RETAKE/SPORTS/GROUPS: Picture retake day is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28. We will also take sports pictures and group pictures that morning.

2^nd PLACE CATHOLIC BOWL!!! Huge congratulations to our JV girls volleyball team, who won 2^nd place over the weekend in the annual Catholic Bowl at Helias. The girls won their first two games over the weekend to get to the final two. The girls also won their game last Thursday night. That makes it a season of great ball playing! We are very proud of our LADY COUGARS!

UNIFORMS: All volleyball players – please return your clean uniform, in a bag, clearly marked with your name on it. We will hold these for group pictures, scheduled for November 28^th.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PRACTICE officially begins this week. Since it is no longer open gym, students will not be able to participate unless all required items are turned in. Reminders were sent home on Thursday.

SANTA STORE: We have scheduled the Santa Store for Tuesday, December 5^th. Please send in any gift items or gift bags that you may want to donate. We always need more dad and boy gifts. We will also need volunteers to help with bagging, wrapping, and shopping. Thanks for your help in making this a very fun activity for our students!
