SUCCESSFUL SOCKTOBER! Thanks to YOU the OLOSS Student Council collected 55 pairs of socks and $70 in donated money. The cash was used to purchase additional items needed for the homeless shelter. The donations will be taken to the Center of Hope Family Shelter at the Salvation Army in Jefferson City.

PICTURES: Today you are receiving your child’s school pictures (if you ordered). If you would like your child’s picture to be retaken, please return the intact package to the school no later than this upcoming Wednesday, November 5th. If we have none returned, we will cancel the retake date – which is currently scheduled for Tuesday, November 25th.

VETERANS INVITED! Please reach out to any veterans or active military in your family/friend group and invite them to eat the Thanksgiving Gratitude Meal with us on Thursday, November 13th. Please RSVP the office by Friday, November 7th.

ARCHERY: Any student wanting to sign up for Archery needs to fill out the flyer sent home in last week’s folder. Andy Adrian is willing to be the Archery coach again this year. The archery group normally meets once a week and practices in the old hall or back parking lot.

CEMETERY LIGHTS: Thanks so very much to all who donated to the lights! We were once again able to cover our costs. Your generosity helps make this a beautiful & noteworthy celebration for our dearly departed loved ones each year.

SOCKTOBER FUN! Join us in helping those less fortunate in our communities by participating in the Student Council’s Sock Drive. On Tuesday and Thursday of this week, students may bring in a pair of new socks or $2 each of those days, and then be able to wear DRESS CODE shorts, skirts or dresses (even though it’s pants season), along with Halloween or crazy socks, if they want to. They must donate for EACH day they would like to participate. If you choose to send money with them instead of socks, we will purchase more items for the homeless shelter.

FANTASY NIGHT IS HERE! Please remember - If you are unable to work the shift you are assigned, please find a replacement. Thanks for the tremendous support of this fundraiser!

SATURDAY EVENING MASS TIME CHANGE: Mass will be at 4:00:pm this Saturday October 18th due to Fantasy Night.

ACADEMIC BOWL PRACTICE: Mrs. Burgess will practice with the Academic Bowl students each Monday, after lunch (11:40 am – 12:15 pm). Scrimmages are set for Nov. 10 @ OLOSS & Nov. 17 @ Honey Creek.

SUPERINTENDANT VISITS! Dr Vader will be visiting OLOS School on Thursday, October 30th. We will have MASS that day so no dress down passes will be allowed. We look forward to warmly welcoming her!

CHRISTMAS CARD: We are one of two schools that was chosen to design a Christmas Card for the Diocese/Chancery Office to use this Christmas season. Three finalists from our school will be picked and submitted to the Diocese. One entry will be selected by the Chancery office. Students will be given time at school to create their cards.

GOOD LUCK TO OUR LADY COUGARS! The volleyball girls will be finishing up their regular season this weekend at Our Lady of Lourdes, Columbia. Next week, they will be participating in the Central Missouri Parochial Athletic League (CMA PAL) Tournament. We wish them good luck as they wind down their season. We are very proud of our Lady Cougars!

DRESS CODE REMINDERS: Per dress code guidelines from the OLOSS Handbook: “Full length pants must be worn October 1 – March 31. Girls may wear navy, black or khaki leggings under appropriate length skirts or jumpers. Mrs. Varner may choose to designate a “short pants” day(s), at her discretion.” Also, remember that students may only wear solid navy, white or khaki sweaters in the classroom or at church. No sweatshirts or hoodies except on the playground/outside. And please remember…ALL LENGTH REQUIREMENTS still apply on Dress Down Days!

COMMUNITY SHIRTS FOR SALE: We have several child sizes medium, large & XL & adult size small royal blue community shirts for sale for $5 each. So, if you need an extra, please send payment and size in a marked envelope.

OCTOBER COUNT: To provide proper pastoral care to parishes, a yearly count is taken during the weekend Masses in the month of October. Please make a point to attend OLOS each weekend in October, if possible, instead of neighboring parishes, to get an accurate count.

Because of your attendance last weekend at the all school Mass, our count was over 300! Thank you to all who attended.

CEMETERY LIGHTS: The school is accepting donations for the lighting of the cemetery for all Saints/All Souls Day. Last year we placed 1800 lights. Cost per hundred is approximately $35-$40. Please send your donation in a marked envelope. Thank you so very much!

HALLOWEEN COSTUMES: As you begin thinking about Halloween costumes for our “Halloween Walk”, please keep in mind that we don’t want to scare any of our little people, so no scary or gory costumes, no fake blood, axes, etc. Let’s keep it light and fun! Please send a bucket or bag for the Trunk or Treat.

TRUNK OR TREAT: We will once again offer a “Trunk or Treat” event for the students on Friday, October 31, as part of their Halloween Walk. If you would like to participate in the Trunk or Treat, please let school office staff know. If someone you know would like to participate, please let them know to plan for approximately 70-75 trick or treaters.

PARENT - TEACHER CONFERENCES: You will find your conference time on a sheet enclosed in this folder. Please be prompt to your conferences and keep in mind that we are on a very tight schedule. If you need more than the 15 minutes, please schedule additional time with the classroom teacher.

FANTASY NIGHT NEWS: We are just one week away from Fantasy Night. We still have approximately 40 tickets available. Ticket price is $135. You will find in this folder a list of items that are needed for the event. If you are able to donate, please send the items by Thursday.  If you are unable to work the shift you are assigned, please find a replacement. If you know of any parish members who would be willing to help with Fantasy Night, please let school office staff know.

Mass Time Change: Mass will be at 4pm on Saturday October 18th due to Fantasy Night.

SCHOOL PICTURES are scheduled for October 8th. Preordering information was sent home last week. You will not receive a paper order form – pictures must be ordered through the online portal. This will be a DRESS UP for school picture day, but jeans may be worn. We will begin at 7:00 am.

 HELIAS NEWS: We’re excited to welcome future Crusaders to campus starting Wednesday, October 15, 2025, when our Crusader for the Day program resumes! The sign-up form will be available starting Friday, October 10, 2025. Please note that the first available visit date is October 15 — no earlier dates will be available. We encourage all visitors to review our school calendar, selecting a visit date to ensure the best experience. Visit Helias Catholic as a Crusader for a Day to experience what a typical school day is like. You will shadow a current student, following his or her schedule throughout the day. Meet Helias Catholic teachers, attend classes, tour the school, and have lunch on us! Stay for all or part of the day. School begins at 7:55 a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m. Crusader for a Day is open to any junior high students considering Helias Catholic.
