WEDNESDAY is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season. All school staff will be at Mass that morning, so please, if you are running late, bring your child directly to church. Please review the following Lenten guidelines for fasting & abstaining from meat & Lenten sacrifice:

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. Fasting is obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. Abstinence from meat is binding upon members of the Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

Please also discuss with your child their Lenten sacrifice. This is a voluntary, spiritually motivated refrainment from of a pleasure or luxury and offering that up to God and/or add one habit that enhances our relationship with God. As the saying goes…   “Give up one thing, pick up one thing!”
