Most needed are such items as: Tuna Helper, Hamburger Helper, Chicken Helper, Peanut butter, Chili Beans, Tuna, Mac & Cheese, Yams, Canned Pumpkin, Stuffing Mix, Canned milk, Corn, Peas, etc. These will be donated to the Eugene food pantry. We have a classroom competition going on to see which classroom brings in the most items. The winning class will receive a small prize.

OLOSS CHRISTMAS MUSICAL:  All are invited to the annual Christmas program put on by our students on Sunday, Dec. 7th, after the 10:00 am Mass, in the school gymnasium.  We will do a full dress rehearsal on Friday, Dec. 5th at 10:00 am. Please invite all grandparents or others who may not be able to attend on Sunday. Parts with costumes have been assigned, and nothing (as far as costumes) from home should be required. PLEASE FIND A LIST OF ACTORS/SOLOS ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE MONTHLY MENU CALENDAR.  All those not in costume will please wear their Sunday best – PLEASE NO JEANS!!! We are asking parents to send in finger foods on Friday morning – so that we can get trays ready ahead of time for Sunday. Please consider sending in any of the following: crackers/dip, chips, sausage & crackers, fruits, cookies, candy, brownies, etc. If doing cookies, snacks – approx. 2 dozen or so. Thank you!

LOOKING AHEAD:  Our last day of school before Christmas will be December 19th, with the parties at 1:30 pm. We are expecting a “special visitor” that morning as well. School will resume on Monday, Jan. 5th, after the Christmas holiday.

CLASSROOM GIFTS:  The students in each classroom will be exchanging gifts of $5 value. Girls buy for girls and boys buy for boys. The gift exchange will be during their classroom parties on December 19th.

SANTA STORE: The Santa Store is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18th, during special classes. This is a special opportunity for our school children to shop for family members and they REALLY enjoy it. We are in need of donations of any kind, but most especially “dad” gifts, and brother/sister gifts. You can send those items in at any time. Also, we will need some helper elves to wrap gifts and help the students with shopping. Debbie Schulte & Wendy Whittle have volunteered to help out. If you are able to be here that day, please contact someone in the office.

UPDATE ON OUTDOOR CLASSROOM: Mrs. Haeffner is heading up efforts to make an outdoor classroom. Items needed for this classroom are: wind sock, concrete statuary, and a sundial. If you would like to donate, please send to the office. Many thanks to Fred & Wendy Whittle, for the donation of the weathervane and to Keith & Stacy Schrimpf, for the donation of the thermometer, weathervane, and rain gauge. Your generosity is really appreciated!

ROASTERS FOR KITCHEN:  The kitchen is in need of a couple new electric roasters. Target has them on sale this week for $27 for the 18 quart size. This would make a wonderful donation to the school!

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! Our thanks goes out this week to Deb Schulte (Mrs. Joe Schulte) for so gracefully helping out in the preschool classroom one morning this week. Also, to Stephanie Lepper – who just came to have her picture taken with her ball team, but ended up staying and helping with pictures. We so appreciate you and also our standby volunteers – Debbie Schulte, Dianne Goetz, and Christina Eickhoff.

IDENTIFICATION OF HEALTH CONDITIONS – COMMUNICABLE & CONTAGIOUS:
Parents, we have had many students sick with a variety of illnesses, including upset stomach and diarrhea.  To keep our school as healthy as possible, please follow the handbook policy. Thank you for your help in this matter. As stated in the handbook: Parents should never knowingly send a sick child to school…The school reserves the right to require students to leave school and not be readmitted to school or school sponsored activities until the student is without symptoms for 24 hours. (Fever without medication, vomiting, diarrhea, etc)

CLARIFICATION ON SNOW DAY CANCELLATIONS:  We are following Eugene snow day cancellation this year. But, OLOS School families will still get parent alerts and cancellations will still be posted on the three local TV stations – Channels 8, 13 & 17.  Additionally, there may be times when we have to cancel school when Cole R-V does not because of parking lot conditions. If you, or someone you know, would be willing to clear snow from the lots to help alleviate this problem, please contact Mrs. Werdehausen.

CHILDREN’S MASS: Stephanie & Nicole Lepper are heading up efforts for the Children’s Choir for the early Christmas Eve Mass at 4:00 pm. If your child would like to participate, please contact Stephanie at 821-6634 or Nicole 694-6634. Practices will begin after the Thanksgiving holiday.

IN THE SPIRIT OF GIVING OLOS School students and families are collecting items for Julie (Oligschlaeger) St. George’s five month old baby girl, Madison. (Julie passed away last week at the age of 36.) Tom & Rose, Julie’s parents, are helping to take care of the baby. We will be collecting any donations of baby items, gift cards, or money up until we break for Christmas, and offer it to the family as a Christmas gift from the school. We will update you next week with specific sizes and needs. Please pray for the Oligschlaeger and St. George families as they go through this difficult time.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND:  Monthly event calendars will once again be printed and come home in the Friday folder near the beginning of each month. However, they will be printed on the reverse of the menu. December will be the exception, however, because we are waiting on game dates. When we get those dates, the December calendar will be released. The calendar is always up on the website for your convenience at www.oloscougars.org.
