The Catholic Schools Week Mass ministry assignments can be found in today’s folder. Please look these over closely and be sure that your child is at the Mass for which you signed up. This is for the Masses on Saturday, Jan. 26th and Sunday, Jan. 27th.

Please find all information for Catholic Schools Week in today’s folder. Please retain this information for future reference – especially since so many of our older students will be gone on the pro-life trip next week. Please make every effort to fill out and send back any permission forms your child may have on Tuesday, so that we are not at the last minute next week scrambling for forms. Thanks, in advance, for your cooperation & help!

ONCE AGAIN WE CONGRATULATE THE 7TH & 8TH GRADE BOYS JV BASKETBALL TEAM. THEY TOOK FIRST PLACE AT ANOTHER TOURNAMENT – THE ST. STANISLAUS, WARDSVILLE, TOURNAMENT - WHICH WAS HELD LAST WEEKEND. WAY TO GO, BOYS!  YOU ARE FLYING HIGH AND WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!!

The Italian Feast is scheduled for February 2, 2013. To make this the successful fundraiser, we count on the school families in several ways. The first way is donation of time and talent in working at and helping plan the event. The other obvious way we count on families is through donations of items for the Silent Auction. We are asking each school family to donate one item of value to place directly on the Silent Auction. We also ask that each family donate an item of at least $5 value to the “classroom basket”. Each classroom has picked a theme and is responsible for compiling this “themed basket” to put up for bidding at the auction. If you cannot come up with something for the themed basket, please send $5 to the classroom teacher, so that he/she may do the shopping for you. With the seasonal sales, you may be able to get better deals now than waiting until the last minute to purchase your items. The classroom themes are as follows:
PK – Mizzou; K/1 – Game Night, 2 – Anything Dr. Suess, 3/4 – Fishing, 5 – Movie Night, 6 – Spring cleaning supplies, 7 – Hunting, 8 – Cardinals

SCIENCE FAIR – FEBRUARY 15TH - OLOS School will participate in the Science Fair. All students in grades 3rd through 8th will be required to do a project, which will be part of their science grade. Students in grades 6th through 8th will also be required to submit a paper with their project. Students in 6th, 7th, & 8th grades will be eligible to compete in the diocesan fair and should make their project in one of the three categories of Life, Physical or Earth Science. We highly encourage all students to work individually; however, if two students work together they must be in the same grade. The OLOS Science Fair is scheduled for February 15, 2013. Winners from OLOS will compete at the Diocesan Science Fair on March 9, 2013. YOU HAVE RECEIVED SCIENCE FAIR PACKET GUIDELINES. DO NOT THROW THIS AWAY – YOU WILL NEED THIS AS A REFERENCE TOOL!! Students must run an actual experiment and follow closely the Scientific Method, as outlined in the packet. DISPLAY BOARDS ARE $4 EACH. YOU MAY SEND PAYMENT FOR YOURS IN A MARKED ENVELOPE & THE BOARD WILL BE SENT HOME ON FRIDAY (UNLESS OTHER ARRANGEMENTS ARE MADE).
Please pray for all those students and adults from our parish who are making the Pro-Life Pilgrimage next week to Washington D. D. They will leave on Wednesday and return on Saturday. They are: Noah Evers, Ashley Kauffman, Erin Love, Kalie Massman, Alexa Belshe, Sam C. Beck, Megan Evers, Kyle Kliethermes, Abby Puckett, Ally Puckett, Zachary Scheuler, Alex Schulte, Sheldon Schulte, Sydney Trachsel, Rachel Wood, Nancy Kliethermes, Gayle Trachsel, Laura Schulte, Marie Massman, Bryan Evers, & Tammy Love. We wish them good weather and safe travel and we are ever optimistic that our prayers combine with theirs and result, ultimately, in an end to abortion.

OLOS Preschool is now accepting applications for the 2013-14 school year. What a night for basketball! Thursday night was a good night for all of the OLOS teams! The JV Boys earned another win against St. Joseph, Westphalia in a close match-up, with a final score of 49-47 at home. The JV Girls, also playing on the home court, won their game against St. Peter, Fulton, with another close score of 24-19. The 5th/6th boys team played hard and lost, but by a very respectable 24-31, against St. Joseph, Westphalia at Westphalia. This is the closest game for them to date. Way to go players! You’re doing GREAT!
