OLOS SCHOOL utilizes ONLINE application & enrollment. The application/enrollment for new students & enrollment for existing students will be opened next Friday. At that time, you will need to log in to your portal & complete and submit the enrollment packet. More info. about that process will be sent home next week. Our goal is to have all existing students re-enrolled no later than April 13th. Students will receive a bonus dress down pass for the next school year if this deadline is met.

DEMOCRACY DAY ELDON UPPER ELEMENTARY: Our 3rd-6th graders have been invited to attend Democracy Day on Friday, March 20th. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn more about their government and community resources. Please find & fill out the field trip form, which can be found in today’s folder.

CANDY/TREATS NEEDED: We would love donations to help fill our Easter eggs for the students’ hunt on April 7th. Donations can be small candy treats or other types of treats (think small carnival type prizes). Please go ahead and send in any donations as soon as they are available so that we know how much we need to purchase. Please no chocolate or anything that could melt easily. Thanks so much!

FISHING DAY AT LEPPER LAKE: Students in grades 3-8 will be fishing on April 1st, after lunch. We have approximately 20 rods/reels (made possible through a grant from Mo. Dept. of Conservation), but if your student has their own, they should bring them. We welcome any & all parents to attend and are asking for drivers. Make plans now to join us for a fun afternoon at a beautiful lake!

BABY SHOWER PLANNED! Mrs. Groose & the Student Council are once again sponsoring our annual Baby Shower for mothers & babies in need. The planned date is Wednesday, April 8th. More information on specific needs will be coming home later in the month, but until then, if you see items on sale or something you would like to donate, go ahead and pick it up. We appreciate your support of this important service project.

“SLOWING DOWN TO THE SPEED OF JOY” Through the past weeks this book has been available at church and is offered as a Lenten resource for reading & study. Small groups have formed, and you are very welcome to attend any of these groups. If you are unable to attend, or can come to only a few, we have enclosed the study guide in today’s folder. Use it as you are able to enrich your Lenten prayer life & reflection time. Small Study Group meetings take place in the parish office meeting room until the end of Lent and group times are:

Sundays – after 8:00 am Mass (led by Colleen Abbott)

Wednesdays - 3:30 pm (led by Marianna Werdehausen)

Fridays – 1:00 pm – before Stations (led by Debbie Klindt)

If you need a copy of the book, you can pick one up at Church or let us know and we can send one home.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Each Friday during Lent (at 2:30 pm) all students will be attending and providing the ministry for the Stations. We invite you to attend if you are able. If you will be signing your child out afterwards, please let us know ahead of time so that they can bring their backpack along to church. All Stations will be at Church.

Schedule for Stations:

Friday, Friday, Mar.13 (3/4 Ministry) Traditional Stations

Friday, Mar. 20 (1/2 Ministry) Living Stations

Friday, Mar. 27 (K Ministry) Shadow Stations

PARISH MISSION: Join us in Eldon for a three-part Lenten Mission Teachings series led by Spencer Allen, principal of Helias Catholic High School. Scheduled for March 15–17, from 6:30–8:00 PM. The talks will explore and strengthen the foundations of Catholic faith, offering insights and practical apologetics. This series is open to all seeking to deepen their faith as they prepare for Lent.

LENTEN OBLIGATIONS:

Abstinence

All who have celebrated their 14th birthday are bound to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.

Fasting

Everyone, from the celebration of their 18th birthday to their 59th birthday, is bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fasting means eating only one full meal each day. Two other partial meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken; but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. Voluntary fasting on other weekdays of Lent is highly recommended.

When health or ability to work would be seriously affected, neither the law of fasting nor the law of abstinence obliges. These are minimal penitential practices and should not be lightly excused. If in doubt, please consult your parish priest. Other recommended forms of fasting, as regards to (adult beverages) drinks, needless television, video games, Internet use, and social entertainment, are of true spiritual value and strongly encouraged.

Almsgiving

The act of giving to the poor, in the most ancient tradition of the Church, is an expression of penance, a witness of fraternal charity, and an expression of Lenten conversion. Catholics are encouraged to support generously the charitable works of the whole Church: through regular stewardship to their parish and support of charities.

 Prayer

To deepen one’s love for Christ, Catholics are urged to participate in the sacramental life of the Church during Lent by attending daily Mass and frequenting the sacrament of Reconciliation.
